Stampin’ Up! Oh So Succulent Hello

Good morning, y’all – if you’re coming from Amy’s blog this morning – welcome!  If you’re one of my regulars – welcome back!  I appreciate all y’all taking a moment out of your day to spend a little time with me!

My card today uses one of my very favorite things in the Occasions Catalog – the Succulent Garden Suite!  And I pulled from the Hello You Thinlits and some super pretty Sale-A-Bration Mint Macaron Glimmer Paper for my sentiment (which is something you’ll be able to get for yourself – for free! – starting on Tuesday!)  Take a look-see:

I used a fun little sketch from the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge this week…

cts-209
And the gorgeous color scheme is a result of this beauteous vase from the Color Throwdown challenge!

ctd-430
Is it pretty?  And it’s in “my” colors, too – if I was a buyer-of-vases, this is definitely one that would be finding it’s way into my house.

But then I’d have to dust it.

So – I’ll stick with the picture!  And my card!

I started with a Very Vanilla card stock panel and lightly flicked the edges with Crumb Cake ink, using a wedge of sponge.  Then I began to build my Succulent Garden!  I started stamping the medium and small flowers in the Oh So Succulent stamp set – stamping the outline images in Marina Mist and Mint Macaron.  To fill them in, I used the opposite color on the fill-in image, stamping it off once before stamping the card.  Although, as you can see, I did one flower with full strength Mint Macaron.  Cuz…why not??

oh-so-succulent-hello-2-stamps-n-lingers
I made use of the sticky note masks I’d made – and kept! – for a previous card, so that I could have some flowers in front and some in back.  For the little brown succulents, I used stamped-off-once Chocolate Chip ink for the outlines, and Crumb Cake for the fill in.  Finally, the “grasses” are Marina Mist outlines and Mint Macaron (full strength) fill in.

oh-so-succulent-hello-8-stamps-n-lingers
I added some Crumb Cake little tiny flowers – that’s a cute little image in the Oh So Succulent set – stamping each image once and then moving the stamp ever-so-slightly and stamping it again without re-inking, to create a softer, sort of blurry image.

These are easy to do, folks – just make plenty of the sticky notes masks (and keep them handy in your stamp case for next time!), take your time, and move the masks around as you need them.  Keep building and adding flowers until you’re happy with it! 🙂

oh-so-succulent-hello-3-stamps-n-lingers
I adhered a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon across the card front with some Liquid Glue.  My sentiment is cut with a die from the Hello You Thinlits – I cut two from Chocolate Chip card stock and one from the new (next Tuesday!!) Mint Macaron Glimmer Paper, and stacked them up with Liquid Glue.  Then I adhered them over the burlap ribbon.  I SNAILd the panel to a Mint Macaron mat and the card front was done!

On the inside, I flick-sponged the edges of another Very Vanilla panel with Crumb Cake.  In the middle, I stamped a sentiment from Oh So Succulent in Mint Macaron and then I added some flowers in the corner.

oh-so-succulent-hello-5-stamps-n-lingers
I SNAILd the panel to a Mint Macaron mat and into my Chocolate Chip card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got a repeat of the inner-liner Oh So Succulent flowers on the front…

oh-so-succulent-hello-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and then I added a Mint Macaron design from the Succulent Garden DSP to the envelope flap.

oh-so-succulent-hello-7-stamps-n-lingers
Et Voila!  This color scheme…with this stamp set…is…wow! – and smack dab in the middle of my comfort zone!  I love the sort of antiqued, rustic look of the card, with the subtle bling of the Mint Macaron Glimmer Paper!  Hope you like!

FINN-FAN FIX….

Need to brag on my puppy a little bit!
The other day, when we went to the vet for “the incident” – he felt good.  No side effects whatsoever.  Just wanted to set the baseline for y’all!
He rode calm and cool to the doc – waited for me to tell him he could get out of the van, and walked nicely into the office.
Where there was a dog laying on the floor while his mother paid the bill.  OMG OMG OMG!!
But – he minded and came back (mostly!) to heel.  Then he sat and waited with me.  Mostly.
I mean….IT’S ANOTHER DOG, MOM!!
We went and sat down and he laid down between my feet when I asked him to.  And then the tech came and called his name.
We had a short discussion about who-is-the-boss-of-him (not the tech!) and he laid back down.
And here’s the fun part.  His little wiggler was going about a million rpm – and so was his left hind leg!  You know how they do when you scratch that spot on their belly?  Yea – like that.  So here he is, laying down, head on the floor, tail a virtual blur and this leg just going to beat the band.
I’m a little ashamed to say that we were all laughing.  I hope he was laughing, too, so that it was with him and not at him!
Once we got in the exam room and the tech left….

finn-chillin-at-the-vet
Figured he might as well get a little snooze in while he waited!
My kinda dog!!
I surely do love this little turd-knocker!! 🙂

Stampin’ Up! Cool Tasty Treats!

Happy Monday, y’all!  Once again I’ll say I hope this finds you safe!  Quite the weather weekend we had, yes?  As I write this on Sunday night, I can say we got off lucky.  We did find a tree down over our perimeter fence – thank goodness for smooth wire!  And a huge branch on the wood fence.  So a little work for Wayne. 🙁  But overall, so far so good.

Finn’s definitely learned a new skill from this wet weather.  It’s the fine art of standing still while your mom tries to dry off all your fur.  Every.  Time.  He.  Comes.  In.  Bleh!  The downside of having a dog!!  But, on the flip side, the rain water is making his coat all silky and shiny! 🙂

He’s ready for the nice weather again, I know.  He’s a little bored.

And you know what happens when a teenager gets bored….

Yea.

You know.

finn-blur
He’s a little cray-cray! 🙂

My card for today is one that depends heavily on some of the pretty Tasty Treats Specialty DSP.  I let the paper do the work and just added a sentiment from the Cool Treats stamp set and a few little embellishments.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Swan Lake Any Occasion Card!

Mornin’, y’all!  I hope this find you safe and sound after yesterday’s wild weather in so many parts of the country!  We got rain.

And more rain.

And then wind.

And rain.

Our pond overflowed the spillway.  Got some water in the basement.  But – overall, could have been much worse.

Finn’s day was messed up.  I didn’t get up as usual, cuz I felt like crap.  He went to feed with his dad in the morning, but they couldn’t go on their run cuz it was freakin’ pouring.  He did spend a little time outside playing when we had a weather break.  And we were able to give him an evening run.  But…the whole schedule was just…messed up! 🙁

I parked the golf cart at the end of the walk in preparation for the last “do” on the horses.  Mr. Finn didn’t want to come in with us – the night was lovely after the rain moved out.  This is what I found when I went back to check and see if he was ready to grace us with his presence.

finn-chillin-on-the-golf-cart
Just chilllin’, Mom!  I’m good.  🙂

My card for today is a card you could give for any reason or “just because”!  It uses a new stamp set – this is my first time playing with the pretty Swan Lake set.  My friend Jari did a card the other day using the Annual Catalog Blooms & Bliss DSP – reminding me how pretty that paper is, so I used a little of it, too.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Any Occasion Sneak Peek!

Well.  Good Friday morning to y’all!  Hope your week is going well – and that the last two days of 2016 will be uneventful!  Or…eventful – whichever you prefer!

Igor has gone.  Seems hard to believe he was even here!  But, it was a wonderful visit – we had lots of catching up to do after 21 years, as you might imagine.  Once we got back from the airport on Wednesday, Igor took a family picture!  He’s getting big, isn’t he?!?

family-portrait

Yesterday we went up to the Mall of Georgia for him to do some last minute gift/souvenir shopping and then we dropped him at the airport in the evening for his flight.  Finn – so he wouldn’t have to spend the day in his kennel, cuz…kennel! – went over to his friends’ house for a doggie day camp.  He had a very good time with Scout and the other children!  He was tired enough when we got him home that I’m not entirely sure he even noticed that Igor’s not here! 🙂

Now my card for today is a CASE-piration.  I saw a cute sample for the Any Occasion stamp set in the Sale-A-Bration flyer and used it as a jumping off point for my card.  It’s similar to the sample, but I’ve made some changes to it, so…a CASE-piration!  Take a look-see:

any-occasion-hello-4-stamps-n-lingers
This one was quick and easy!  I started with a Crumb Cake card base and used a piece of Peekaboo Peach card stock to add a mat.  I cut a piece of card stock the same size as normal (4″ x 5 1/4″ ), sliced it on the diagonal with my Stampin’ Trimmer and SNAILd it to the card front.  The next layer is from the new (2017 Occasions) Succulent Garden DSP.  I cut a normal sized card front (3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″), measured in a 1/4″ from the diagonal corners and made a tiny mark with a pencil.  Then I sliced from mark-to-mark and SNAILd it over the mat – with the bottom left corner flush with the mat!

any-occasion-hello-2-stamps-n-lingers

The central art heart is a piece of Whisper White card stock that I cut with the Sweet & Sassy Framelit.  I made the sentiment banner using the various elements in the Any Occasion stamp set.  First I stamped a “string” in Crumb Cake ink.  Then I added a Crumb Cake “Hello” and finally stamped several little banners in Peekaboo Peach and Calypso Coral.  The little heart below the banner is also from Any Occasion, stamped in Calypso Coral.

any-occasion-hello-8-stamps-n-lingers
I popped the heart over the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I added a couple of Linen Thread bows with a couple of dabs of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, a heart from the new Sending Love Embellishments with Liquid Glue, and one Peekaboo Peach heart from the 2017-2018 In Colors Enamel Shapes.  And the card front was done!

On the inside, I made a couple more Any Occasion banners from Crumb Cake, Peekaboo Peach and Calypso Coral on a Whisper White panel and added a couple more hearts.

any-occasion-hello-5-stamps-n-lingers
Then I SNAILd it to a double mat – one piece of the Succulent Garden DSP and one of Peekaboo Peach card stock – and then into my card base, and the card was done!

For my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I added some Any Occasion banners and hearts across the front…

any-occasion-hello-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and added some Succulent Garden DSP to the envelope flap.  I did it a little differently than my normal flap embellishment – to coordinate with the front of the card.  I adhered a piece of the DSP with Liquid Glue on a diagaonal, with the point at the bottom of the flap, then I just trimmed the excess.

any-occasion-hello-7-stamps-n-lingers
Et Voila!  This is a fun little stamp set that truly covers…well…Any Occasion!  And it’s going to be free choice goody with a $50 purchase during Sale-A-Bration!  Hope you like!

Stampin’ Up! Dragonfly Dreams and Details Sneak Peek for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Good morning, y’all – welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop!  We had a fun – and interesting! – sketch challenge to work with this week.  I figure you’ll see some Christmas, some Sneak Peeks, some…who’s to say?!  I hope you’ll spend some time scrolling thru all the Blog Hoppers’ offerings today!

Here’s our sketch!

14088475_10210533701207078_5690154385464549913_n
I decided to play around a little with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits – and used a cool technique called Embossed Impressions.  I saw a card on Pinterest and discovered a great video from Jennifer McGuire – which you can check out right here!  I used the matching Dragonfly Dreams stamp set – which you’ll be able to get as a 10%-off bundle when the 2017 Occasions Catalog comes out in January.

Take a look-see:

dreamy-dragonfly-embossed-impressions-4-stamps-n-lingersAfter I watched Jennifer’s video, I decided to use some Island Indigo card stock to bring out the shimmery dragonfly wings.  Before I started my embossing, though, I used the dots image from Dragonfly Dreams to stamp in Island Indigo across the top of the panel (you probably noticed I turned the sketch on its side!).

Then I rubbed the panel with my Embossing Buddy.  To emboss the dragonflies, I made my Big Shot sandwich:  cutting plate, Silicon embossing mat (from Amazon), thinlit with the cutting side up, card stock, additional piece of card stock as a shim, silicon mat, cutting plate.  Before building the sandwich, I gently tapped the cutting edge of my thinlit with Versamark Ink.  Then I was really careful to not move the thinlit once I got everything laid down.

dreamy-dragonfly-embossed-impressions-3-stamps-n-lingers
I embossed the panel, removed the card stock from the Big Shot sandwich and sprinkled it with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.  Be sure you check for any stray embossing powder and brush it off carefully before heating.  Then, using my Clear Wink of Stella, I brushed the raised portions of the dragonfly wings.  I love how it makes them look iridescent!

dreamy-dragonfly-embossed-impressions-8-stamps-n-lingers
I matted the panel on Silver Foil, then ran a length of coming-soon White/Silver 3/8″ Metallic Ribbon (this is a FREE Sale-A-Bration item!) around the card front and secured it in the back with scotch tape.

The sentiment, from Dragonfly Dreams, is heat embossed in Silver.

For the large dragonfly, I repeated the same embossing technique that I used for the card front.  Then, when it was all cool, I used the outline die to cut out the dragonfly.  And I cut a second solid dragonfly from Silver Foil.  I brushed the raised parts of the wings and then used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the two dragonflies together.

dreamy-dragonfly-embossed-impressions-2-stamps-n-lingers
I stuck pieces of Stampin’ Dimensional all over the back of the dragonfly and used them to adhere loops of Silver Metallic Thread behind it, then popped it on the card front.  I added a little row of Rhinestone Basic Jewels under the sentiment and the card front was done.

On the inside, I stamped the Dragonfly Dreams dots image across the top of a Whisper White panel, using Island Indigo ink that I stamped off once before stamping the panel.  Then I added a second sentiment, heat embossing it in Silver.

dreamy-dragonfly-embossed-impressions-5-stamps-n-lingers
I SNAILd the panel to a Silver Foil mat and into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more stamped-off-once-Island-Indigo dots from Dragonfly Dreams across the front…

dreamy-dragonfly-embossed-impressions-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and also across the envelope flap.

dreamy-dragonfly-embossed-impressions-7-stamps-n-lingers
Et Voila!  I kind of love this technique and hope you’ll give it a try, too.  And the Dragonfly Dream bundle is going to be a heavy favorite when the Occasions Catalog goes live!  Hope you like.

Stampin’ Up! Seaside Shore Just Saying “Hey”!

Good morning, y’all!  By the time you read this post I’ll either be putting the last of my things into the Kia Soul that is my rental car (yes – that one.  You can drive this – or you can drive that.  The singing and dancing giant rapping hamsters) or I’ll be standing in the corner, arms crossed petulantly, lip poked out, glaring at everyone and no one. and stomping my foot whilst stating “No.  I won’t go.  You can’t make me.  I don’t waaaaaaannnnnnaaaaa!!”.

Since I am who I am – it’ll probably be the former.  But on the inside…the pouty me will still be stomping my foot!! 😉

I think I’ve mentioned I have a “business trip switch”.  Once it flips, I’m good-to-go.  Until then, I’m fighting it the whole way.  My switch hasn’t flipped as of Saturday night.  Let’s hope it gets on the stick or it’s going to be a really pissy drive to Savannah!

Duck Duck told me she was really going to miss me at lot.

Until I told her I’d chopped up an entire huge head of cabbage so she’d get it while I’m gone.

At that point she said….see ya. Wouldn’t wanna be ya!

At least, I’m pretty sure that’s what that particular squawkackel meant. 😉  Don’t bother Googling squawkackel…..

If you just came over from Amy’s blog – welcome!  Yes, this is the right spot – here comes the promised card!  This one uses the new Seaside Shore stamp set and the coordinating By The Shore DSP.  And some fussy cutting!  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Flourishing Phrases Brighten the World and a Blog Candy Winner!

Good Saturday to y’all!  Today marks 24 hours before I leave for Savannah for another 3-week stint.  And I’m hearing that the weather there is even hotter and more oppressive than it’s been here.  And here has been…rough.

Wouldn’t be so awful if we could just hunker in the house in the A/C – but…we have animals who like to eat.  And get cool baths.  And have their beds tidied each morning so they can come and laze in them under the fans overnight.

Oh – and of course the goose wants her chopped cabbage.  And her shower!  She came to the barn again this evening and stood in front of the big floor fan with me hosing her down.  And she just kept walking closer and closer.  I’m pretty sure geese can’t physically smile, but she was for sure turning her head to and fro to get the water where she wanted it! 🙂

I think we may make her a stall to sleep in overnight.  With a big tub of water.  And her cabbage.  And some comfy shavings.  And a fan…..

I don’t know that the horses will think that’s really the thing.  Unless she stops her usual somewhat strident arguing and chatting and settles down to sleep.

Oh, dear….

Anyway – enough of that!  I’ve got a quick and easy, bright and cheery card to share with you this morning.  And all you need is one bundle – the Flourishing Phrases bundle – with the stamp set and the Flourish Thinlits dies.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Gift of Love With Blooms & Bliss

I need a training manual for my goose.  And I may need my head examined.  Cuz I’m spending an inordinate amount of time worrying about the goose.  Is she lonely?  Is she hungry?  Would she like a cool shower?  Is the cabbage I bought just for her chopped up finely enough for her delicate schnoz?  If she likes watermelon, will she also like cantaloupe?

See?

Crazy.

She.

Is.

A.

Goose.

And a slightly goofy one, at that.

But – she’s fun.  She came to the house this afternoon and goose-guilted Wayne into going back to the barn with her and sitting on the porch while she grazed.  Always good to have your big, strong man to watch for predators while you eat, don’t you know?

Then this evening, when we were 1 minute later than she thought was fittin’, she came to the barn to get us.   And walked right up to us, stood in front of the fan, and let me spray her with the water hose.  Seemed to really like it.

Then she goose-galloped after us when we took her food to the pond.

She truly cracks me up.

But I think she’s lonely…. 🙁

Maybe she’d like to come in at nigh….

STOP!!!

That’s it.  I’m not worrying about the goose any more today.  Instead, I’ll share a card – which is why you came in the first place!

This one uses the pretty Host exclusive set called Gift of Love.  It’s a pretty two-step flower image with several nice sentiments in a beautiful font. I combined it with some of the pretty Blooms & Bliss DSP.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Grateful Bunch

Mornin’, y’all!  It’s Saturday and I’ve got a cute little card to share with you today.  I was late getting started making a card so I needed something quick.  I’d had this little card in my head for a minute, so it seemed like a great time to implement it!

Quick.  Fast.  Easy.  Kind of the theme for today.  Along those lines – if you heard of an appliance that could make a dish in about an hour – one that usually takes 24 hours, you’d think that was a good deal, right?  Well, I’ve been hearing that electric pressure cookers could do just that.  Here in the Deatherage household, we eat a lot of beans.  Pinto Beans and Red Beans (and rice), specifically.  And those require me to think about them the night before, put the beans on to soak overnight and then get them in the crock pot first thing in the morning.

Enter….the Electric Pressure Cooker.  I succumbed to a QVC commercial and got one delivered.  Upon reading the included cook-book, lo and behold….a recipe for black beans.  30 minutes.  And the recipe said “1 pound dry black beans”.  No mention of soaking.  I was ecstatic.  So, I put my pintos on, using the called for amount of liquid.  Set for 30 min.

Thirty minutes later – crunchy beans.

Reset for another 30 minutes.

Still.  Crunchy.

30 more minutes.

Finally ended up with just-about-right-beans after 1 hour and 45 minutes of cooking.  A pretty significant improvement over 24 hours, sure.  But…worth the amount of real estate it takes up?  Maybe not.  So….it’s probably going to be on it’s way back to QVC. 😉

This little card, though – you really could get it done in 30 minutes!!  Just do a little quick watercolor, add a Grateful Bunch Flower and a sentiment from Happy Pants.  And you’ve got a little note card all ready to go.  Take a look-see:
