Stampin’ Up! Pretty Seasonal Lantern Wreath

Happy Hawmp day, y’all!  On a short week!

I love short weeks.

Almost as much as I love long weekends!

In the Holiday Catalog, on page 27, the designers at Stampin’ Up! show a card where they’re stamping a wreath and using a punched out circle to help make the wreath round.

See it?

Okay.  And, there’s been a bunch of cards on the interwebs making wreaths with the new Leaf Punch.

Well, for today, I decided to bump those wreaths up a notch – and use the punched circle technique to help me out.  I did use the Leaf Punch, but…I also used a die from the May Flowers Framelits, the Pretty Pines Thinlits, and the new Lantern Builder Framelits.  And, since I’d saved myself 10% by purchasing the Seasonal Lantern Bundle – I also used that matching stamp set.  Take a look-see:

The layout of the card was inspired by the sketch side of the Sugar Pea Designs challenge this week.

I started out with a piece of Wood Textures DSP and I dry embossed it in the Pinewood Planks Dynamic TIEF, then I matted it on a piece of Crushed Curry.  Like I’ve suggested in the past – I cut my panel a little bigger than I wanted it, dry embossed it, and then cut it down to size.

I punched a 2 1/4″ Circle from a piece of scrap card stock and used that to lightly pencil in a circle on the card front.

Next up, I started cutting. With my Leaf Punch I made 5 sets of Old Olive leaves (and I creased all the leaves).  Pretty Pines Thinlits contributed five Cajun Craze “berries” and the May Flowers Framelits made Crushed Curry bigger berries.  Using the leaf dies in the new Lantern Builder Framelits, I also cut some Champagne Foil leaves.  Finally, I made some little swirly-do’s with the Patterned Pumpkins Thinlits from Pumpkin Pie card stock.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere all the pieces in place and then made my sentiment.  I used the Seasonal Lantern sentiment and stamped each word individually in Early Espresso on another piece of Wood Textures DSP.  When I cut the words out, I tried to make them look like they were on old pieces of board.  I used my Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker to edge the two pieces – making sure to be sloppy enough to add some good shadow to the edges.

Using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals, I popped the two “boards” onto the wreath.

I made a looped bow (aka Billie Moan Bow!) from Linen Thread and then made a double length bow from Crushed Curry Solid Baker’s Twine.  Using Glue Dots, I adhered them both to the top of the wreath.

I finished it all off with some Enamel Shapes in Cajun Craze and Pumpkin Pie – nestling them in close to the wreath.

On the inside, I took a small triple leaf image from the Seasonal Lantern stamp set and stamped them across the bottom of a Very Vanilla panel in Old Olive, Crushed Curry and Cajun Craze.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Crushed Curry mat and into my Early Espresso card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got more of the Seasonal Lantern leaves across the front…

…and another piece of Wood Textures DSP on the envelope flap.  After I adhered the DSP with Liquid Glue and trimmed the excess, I ran just the flap thru the Big Shot in the Pinewood Planks Dynamic TIEF.  Hard to see in the picture, but you can really tell it in “person”!

Et Voila!  I love a wreath with a lot of “oomph!” – like I like my cards!  And these two or three die sets really came together so well to create a lovely and lush Fall wreath (she says oh-so-modestly!).  Add in the Seasonal Lantern sentiment and Champagne Foil leaves from the Lantern builder Framelits and I think we’ve got a winner!  Hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix

The last weeks (or months…) of summer are fickle.

One minute it’s cool and dry and we think…whew!!  Here’s Fall!

And then…it’s the dog days of summer again.

Well – my little dog has two ways of dealing with the dog days.

One involves water – and it’s one of his (and kids everywhere!!) favorites….playing in the hose!

And the other way to cope is a….nice cool nap in the shade of the golf cart.

Cool concrete – a cool breee – and a bead on the back door in case someone comes out.

Not that he wants anyone to come out necessarily.

It’s just in case, don’t you know!

Stampin’ Up! Falling May Flower Garden

Happy Hawwmp Day, y’all!  Although I’m only just realizing what day it is – I spent all day Tuesday thinking it was…Monday?  Which is odd since Tuesdays are the day I do my Newsletter and I spent a lot of time getting that ready!  But, it’s true – I was discombobulated all day.

Which is why the card I did follows a sketch that closed at noon on Tuesday.  And today’s not Tuesday, so… yea.

Speaking of which, I used a technique on this one that I blatantly copied from Amy Koenders.  You can see the card she did right here.  I justified my overt copying by telling myself the sketch demanded a frame, so…almost all the cards that were submitted have a frame.  And how many ways are there to do a frame?  But, I did use a completely different stamp set, so there’s that.  I pulled out the Falling Flowers bundle and then took a sentiment (and a little tiny bee!) from the Garden in Bloom set.  Take a look-see:

So – in addition to the sketch challenge at My Favorite Things – that I missed!, I played along with the Can You CASE It challenge, which gave me my colors.

I started with a plain piece of Whisper White card stock.  Then, using the instructions I got over at Amy’s blog, I fashioned a frame.  First I used the largest of the square Stitched Shapes Framelits and, with half of the die hanging off the end of the platform (so it wouldn’t cut) I ran it thru the Big Shot and cut the top half.  Then I reversed the layout, letting the little “stitches” in the die hook into the stitches that had just been cut to help me line it up.  When I ran it thru that second time, I ended up with a rectangle with the stitches cut into it!

I repeated that process using a scallop-edge die in the Squares Layering Framelits to cut out the middle.  Once I had run thru the Big Shot twice (both times only cutting half of the die). I ended up with the frame you see.  Now, to be fair, I fully expected to have to do it a few times to get it right – but I got lucky on the first go! 🙂

Next up, I used a sticky note that I cut to the size of my frame, and stuck it in the center of my Whisper White card front.  Right below the sticky note, I stamped the sentiment from Garden in Bloom in Basic Gray Archival Ink.  Then, using the flourish stamp in the Falling Flowers stamp set, I stamped around the sticky note and the sentiment with Smoky Slate ink, that I stamped off once before stamping my card.  When I pulled up the sticky note, I had a clear “canvas” for my “picture”.  I matted the panel on Basic Gray and Daffodil Delight card stock panels with SNAIL.

Using the images in the Falling Flowers stamp set, I stamped a few leaves in Smoky Slate (full strength).  Then I cut a sticky note mask (knew that was coming, didn’t you!!) and covered them up one at a time to stamp the little berry image in stamped-off-once Daffodil Delight.  I lined the back of my frame with Stampin’ Dimensionals and stuck the frame over the top of my canvas.

Then I stamped several flowers in Tempting Turquoise (the large two are full strength and the little ones are stamped-off-once) and some berries in full strength Daffodil Delight (I colored them in with my Daffodil Delight Watercolor Pencil), and cut them all out with the matching dies in the May Flowers Framelits.  Then I colored the large flowers in with my alcohol-filled Aqua Painter, using ink from the lid of my Tempting Turquoise stamp pad.

I used Liquid Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere them to the frame to get a 3-D effect and some Tempting Turquoise and Daffodil Delight Enamel Shapes for the middle of the flowers.

Finally, I stamped the little bee from the Garden in Bloom stamp set in Basic Gray Archival Ink on Whisper White, colored him in with my Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Marker and fussy cut him.  Then I stuck him to his flower with a little Liquid Glue – and brushed his wings with the Clear Wink of Stella.

And that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Garden in Bloom in Basic Gray in the middle of a Whisper White panel.  Then, using some sticky note masks, I stamped some Tempting Turquoise flowers and Smoky Slate leaves at the bottom.  I stamped the two large flowers first, covered them with their masks, and stamped the rest of the images “behind” them.  I lightly colored the centers of the large flowers with my Daffodil Delight Watercolor Pencil!

I double matted the panel on Basic Gray and Daffodil Delight and SNAILd it into my Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

On my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I repeated the Falling Flowers images on the front…

…and gave the envelope flap a stamped-off-once Smoky Slate Falling Flowers flourish.  Then I added another little bee in the corner.  Cuz I like him! 🙂

Et Voila!  I really kind of never get tired of all the beautiful flower images that Stampin’ Up! brings to us – and this Falling Flowers bundle is definitley one of my faves!  And the fact that they give us so many matching dies is just the icing on the cake!  Hope you like!

FINN-FAN FIX….

‘Member me saying yesterday I figured it wouldn’t be long before FInn-Chewie figured out the transition from stairs to lap?

Well.

Sure ’nuff!  As soon as I hit “schedule” on the post and closed up shop, he gracefully (-ish) stepped across the gap and onto my lap.

So I took a few (dozen!) close-ups!

Stampin’ Up! May Flowers One Big Meaning Thanks – and the Blog Candy Winner!

Happy Hawwmp Day, y’all!  Hope it’s going well so far this week.  My meeting has been very productive and well worth the effort it took to get out here (she admits grudgingly….).  Today I’ll be headed back to the airport and on the way home in the morning!

My card for today is a spring-y, flowered-y thank you card, using the fun Falling Flowers stamp set and matching May Flowers Framelits and one of my favorite sentiment stamp sets:  One Big Meaning!  When I added the gorgeous Blooms & Bliss DSP, here’s what I came up with.  Take a look-see:

may-flowers-one-big-thanks-4-stamps-n-lingers
I used the sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch to help me with the layout.

cts-210
I started with a panel of Mint Macaron and Island Indigo flowers paper from the Blooms & Bliss DSP and SNAILd it to a Blushing Bride mat.  Using the new Mint Macaron Glimmer Paper, I cut out two sets of leaves with the May Flowers Framelits and adhered them to my card front with Liquid Glue.

The center layer is a piece of Whisper White card stock.  First I used the two leaves images in the Falling Flowers stamp set – stamping them all over the panel in Mint Macaron and Island Indigo ink.  I matted the panel on Blushing Bride, then ran the whole thing thru my Big Shot in the Petal Burst TIEF.  Then I popped that over the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

may-flowers-one-big-thanks-3-stamps-n-lingers
I cut two Mint Macaron Glimmer Paper leaves and a Blushing Bride flower with the May Flowers Framelits, then used Liquid Glue to adhere them to the middle panel.

My sentiment, from One Big Meaning, is heat embossed in Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a strip of Vellum card stock.  I adhered the vellum to a piece of Whisper White card stock – using tiny bits of glue from my Fine Tip Glue Pen under just the embossed words to hide the glue.  Then I used my Banner Triple Punch on both ends.

may-flowers-one-big-thanks-1-stamps-n-lingers
I used some Liquid Glue to adhere the sentiment banner and then added a tiny bow made from Whisper White Thick Bakers Twine and a Blushing Bride Enamel Shape – and that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I stamped the pretty flower from Falling Flowers in Blushing Bride on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  Then I added a sticky note mask over it and stamped a few Mint Macaron leaves.

may-flowers-one-big-thanks-5-stamps-n-lingers
I SNAILd the panel to a Blushing Bride mat and into my Island Indigo card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a repeat of the Falling Flowers flower and leaves on the front…

may-flowers-one-big-thanks-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and a touch more of the Blooms & Bliss DSP on the envelope flap.

may-flowers-one-big-thanks-7-stamps-n-lingers
Et Voila!  This is such a pretty bundle of flowers and leaves – the Falling Flowers stamp set and matching May Flowers Framelits!  And I really love it with the Blooms & Bliss DSP!  Hope you like!

Stampin’ Up! Thoughtful Falling May Flowers

Mornin’, y’all!  It’s Tuesday!  Hope your week is going well!  Being Tuesday, I’ve got a couple of updates from Stampin’ Up! that I’ve added down below.  Be sure to check them out, okay?

So – as you’re aware, I’ve been trying to train Finn-Chewie.  I don’t want an “obedience ring” dog.  Nope.  I just want a dog who will come back to me when I call him, drop stuff if I tell him to – or leave it alone to begin with, and go with me like a sane being when I want to take him somewhere.

Oh – and I’d like to do some agility with him.

And have him be a therapy dog – I’d love to take him to hospitals and nursing homes.

So….obedience is a pretty critical step in becoming a good citizen.

We do a lot of Come-Click-Treat (CCT).  I call his name and say “come”.  If it’s a good CCT, Finn hits the brakes, spins around and returns on the fly to the golf cart.  As soon as his wiggle-butt hits the ground, I click the clicker and then give him a tiny milk bone.

finn-by-the-golf-cart-after-a-cct
He loves him some tiny milk bones!  And he does know what “come” means…just sometimes…he doesn’t want to!

But  – we’re working on it – repetition repetition repetition!  One day…ONE day…the conditioning will overcome the “don’t want to”!

She says with hope in her voice! 🙂

So, my card for today is an any-occasion card, using the pretty Falling Flowers bundle from the Annual Catalog and a couple sentiments from the Thoughtful Banners set.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Thoughtful Thanks and Falling Flowers!

Happy Sunday, y’all!  I hope you’re whittling down your get-ready-for-Christmas list.  I managed to get thru a few things on Saturday, so I have half a shot at getting things to the mail tomorrow.

Every year, around Thanksgiving, an old and useful friend makes an appearance at our house.  This came to me as one of the first Christmas gifts my soon-to-be-husband gave me.  He didn’t actually go get it – he cut out a picture of it from the Service Merchandise catalog.  Remember Service Merchandise??  Anyway, he cut it out and stuck it in an envelope.  That was a hundred years ago.  He’s gotten a little more with the Christmas spirit these days.  Meaning…he panics around the 23rd and makes a heroic effort to make up for waiting so long! LOL.

But…we went to the Service Merchandise and got…

img_6126
Yes.  The workhorse of the kitchen!  Not something I use every day or even every month.   But…when it’s needed, it’s there.  Dependable and sturdy and strong.

Kind of like my husband, I suppose you could say! 🙂

My card for today uses a fun Annual Catalog bundle: the Falling Flowers bundle, which is a part of the Irresistibly Floral Suite.  The bundle includes the Falling Flowers stamp set and the matching May Flowers Framelits die set.  To that, I pulled in the Thankful Thoughts stamp set for a couple of sentiments.  And, cuz I could, I used a little more of the gorgeous Falling in Love DSP from the 2017 Occasions catalog.  Take a look-see:
