Just a quick little project for you today. We’re headed into the gift giving season – and most of us have a few folks on our list who just sort of….befuddle us….when it comes to what to get for that person. For some reason, most of those people on my list are guys! Hmmm. Not sure why – but there it is. I always kind of hate to do a gift card – somehow it seems like a cop out. On the other hand – a gift card always fits, is always the right color, and is usually something they want! I do try to pick gift cards that are suited to that person. Bass Pro for my hubby (usually in addition to other gifts), Amazon for the twenty-something boys/men who are in college and starting a career. None of them want a Bed, Bath and Beyond gift card, or a Williams-Sonoma card! 🙂
The Gift Card holder I’ve made to share with you today was a requested item. My friend has a friend (yes – more than just me!) who has found herself in the unenviable position of having a house full of mice. Not a couple. Not even a few. Apparently – it’s an “infestation”, that she found one evening when she “heard a noise in her kitchen and when she turned the light on, there THEY were”. The poor woman has spent thousands and thousands of dollars getting rid of the mice and replacing everything she fears might have been “touched”.
So, Jan is giving her a gift card (Bed, Bath and Beyond maybe?!) to help her replace some stuff. And she asked me for a gift card holder. With maybe a….mouse…. on it. She assured me her friend will find it funny!
I’ve put up a Tutorial to show you how to make the basic Gift Card holder using the Envelope Punch Board. It’s so easy it’s ridiculous. Check it out here! So, I made that holder, and then I decorated it according to her request! Take a look-see:
That’s a sentiment from A Little Something, stamped in Rich Razzleberry on Whisper White card stock, to coordinate with the Into the Woods DSP I used to pretty up the Card Holder. The Holder itself – and the mat around the sentiment – are Old Olive card stock. I punched the sentiment out with my 1 3/8″ Circle Punch.
Now, the mat is too big – when you make yours, use a smaller one – like around 1 1/2″. But I made mine bigger so that I could add some infestation embellishment!
I Googled how to draw a mouse. Then I lightly traced my sentiment circle in pencil on my Old Olive mat. I ever-so-lightly drew a few curious mice peeking over the top of my circle. To be fair, I did about 10 of these before I was happy with my mice. I don’t draw. It’s why I stamp, okay?!? But, I finally got happy, so I traced over my pencil-mice with my Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker. I added a little Melon Mambo for their ears, Basic Black eyes and eyelashes, and each of them got a little bow. Then I added an Early Espresso body and some feet and a little tail. I made the belly with my White Gel Pen. This is not anatomically correct – and the scale is wrong from heads to body – but I decided it was cute! And – they’re pretend mice!
I wrapped some Whisper White 1/2″ Seam Binding Ribbon around the bottom portion of the card holder, and tied a simple knot. Then I adhered the mat over the top of the ribbon with SNAIL. Finally, I popped the sentiment on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and added a little Rhinestone Basic Jewel.
Et Voila. A very personalized Gift Card Holder! I’m hoping Jan likes it – and that her friend gets the chuckle she’s hoping for. Hopefully it’s not too soon! 😉
Check out how to make your own gift card holders – and use up some of that leftover DSP you know you’ve got lying around!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I’ll be back in your inbox bright and early on Monday!

Cute little gift card holder! Perfect way to use up a little extra DSP. 🙂
It sure is! And it make the gift card itself feel a little more personal! Thanks, Amy! 🙂
Very pretty way to boost the appeal of a gift card. Takes it to next level.
Yep – I agree. And way better than the silly little gift card holders you can buy at the store! Thanks, Mom! 🙂
