Good morning and Happy Mother’s Day! Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Today’s card is just…fun! We’ve got a cute new stamp set – called Thoughtful Octopus. It’s got cute undersea images and punny sentiments – which I love! I used it – and the new Water & Dotted Lines Decorative Masks to make a cute thank you card. Take a look-see:
This one uses some masking and I made my mask with – you guessed it! – the second-from-largest Scalloped Blooms die! I cut it right from the middle of a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of cardstock (Basic White in my case but…it doesn’t really matter!).
I set it on top of a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic White cardstock – and used the “hole” to determine where to stamp the octopod from the Thoughtful Octopus set in Crisp Cantaloupe ink. Note – I wanted a little bit of him outside the “circle”.
Next – I returned the cardstock mask and secured both pieces with sticky notes. Then I set the “water” mask from the new Water & Dotted Lines 12″ x 12″ Decorative Masks on top of the cardstock.
Using a Small Blending Brush, I lightly added Hydrangea Hue ink – avoiding the octopus as much as possible. Then I removed the Water Decorative mask and used the almost-dry Blending Brush to color over the masked lines – blurring them a bit.
Then I took the mask off and started adding the rest of the scene!
I stamped the shading on the octopus with Calypso Coral ink.
Across the bottom of the shaded portion, I stamped a couple of Thoughtful Octopus sea grasses in Peaceful Pine ink. The ocean floor is Golden Glow ink.
Three little seahorses in Calypso Coral and some “bubbles” in Hydrangea Hue (hint: the bubbles are stamped using the same image as the shading on Doc Ock’s forehead – just turned vertically!)
Once I had all the stamping done – I replaced my cardstock mask (with the Scalloped Blooms die cut “hole”) and used my shiny new Hydrangea Hue Shimmer Brush to add splatters – striking the brush on the edge of an acrylic block.
I removed the mask and – when the Shimmer splatters were dry – stamped the Thoughtful Octopus sentiment in Night of Navy ink.
I trimmed the panel down to 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″ and then matted it panel on Calypso Coral, added some – okay, NINE! – Cloud Cover Sunset Sparkle Sequins and the card front was done!
On the inside, I stamped a second – fun! – Thoughtful Octopus sentiment in Night of Navy ink on a Basic White panel. In the corner, I stamped a little underwater scene.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to the inside of my Night of Navy card base, popped the card front on with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.
My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Thoughtful Octopus scene on the front…
And Doc Ock himself on the envelope flap.
Et Voila! I know – this Thoughtful Octopus is just too cute – between the images and the fun sentiments – it’s a winner! And the Water & Dotted Lines 12″ x 12″ Decorative Masks are fun, too! They’re sized for scrapbooking but…equally handy for card fronts, right?!
