I saw this technique – the strips in the circle – on Facebook and it looks like it started with Brian King!  So – I’ll give credit where credit is due! 😎

The layout was inspired by the MFT Weekly Sketch Challenge!

I started by embossing a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock in the Cascading Ruffles 3D Embossing Folder.  I matted it on a piece of Basic Black and then adhered it to the front of a Gray Granite card base using Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I used Liquid Glue to adhere strips of cardstock and Neutrals 6″ x 6″ DSP.  I butted the edges up to each other so that no cardstock showed thru.

From the top down: Coastal Cabana, Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, Boho Blue, Misty Moonlight, Crumb Cake DSP, Gray Granite DSP, Crumb Cake DSP, Gray Granite DSP.

I stamped the little splatters image from Beauty of the Deep on the top of the panel in Pool Party ink.

Using the largest Stylish Shapes circle die, I cut out a circle from the panel.

I adhered the circle to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I used the coral die from the Beauty of the Deep die set to cut out a Basic Black coral and adhered it with some Liquid Glue.

A small Gray Granite Baker’s Twine bow is adhered with a dab of Liquid Glue.

I stamped the Beauty of the Deep sentiment in Tuxedo Black on a piece of Pool Party cardstock and then snipped out each word with my Paper Snips.

I added a few Rustic Metallic Adhesive-backed Dots and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped the coral from the Beauty of the Deep set in Tuxedo Black in the corner of a Crumb Cake panel. I stamped the splatters (they’re really bubbles!) all around the coral in Pool Party ink.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Basic Black mat and then into the Gray Granite card base and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Beauty of the Deep coral and bubbles on the front…

…and more of the Gray Granite Neutral 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  So – we all know that masculine cards can be a bit persnickety so…consider Beauty of the Deep as an amazing starting point!  The sentiment-only Hope You Know set has so many possible messages – you’re going to want it in your stash.  And – not sure what this strips-on-a-circle is called but…I LIKE it a lot, don’t you?!  Give it a go!

Finn Fan Fix

He had to work pretty hard to get wedged in here!

I’ve stopped even asking “why?!”.  🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

  1. Such a pretty card! The layout and design are perfect, love the colors too! As for Finn…well, he laid down and then slid over and then slid a little more and then that chair was bothering him so he put his paw on it to make sure that it didn’t cause any trouble and then he got comfortable and fell asleep. See…that’s how easy it is. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

I can SEE it – yes! I think you’re right, Amy! :). Thank you so much! 🙂

  2. Faith Simpson

Oh, I love this card, Mary. Neat technique….I haven’t seen it before….and Beauty of the Deep is on my list to purchase soon.
As for Finn….he is handsome no matter where he settles…..look how pretty his ‘feathers’ look….he probably posed on purpose.

    • stampsnlingers

You know – he IS a bit of a ham so…it wouldn’t surprise me if he put himself there just to make us all smile! Thanks, Faith – can’t wait to see what you make with Beauty of the Deep! 🙂

  3. Gail S.

Your card makes me feel cool even though it’s mid to high 90s here today! Thanks for adding to my “wish” list. Maybe the chair leg is Finn’s “early warning system”. You move it, and he knows you’re up and moving around and he’ll be ready to go, too. DOG knows by the clothes I’m wearing whether I’m “going” some place and heads to the chair to sit and have his leash put on so he can go,too! Apparently comfy jeans and T-shirts don’t mean “going to town” to him.

    • stampsnlingers

That is so funny – Finn is the same. He goes on “go-watch” when I blow my hair dry. All I have to do is put my sunglasses around my neck after that and he’s in full go mode. Until I pull out a “kennel bone” – and then he’s on a mission to kennel up. A nice bone – the fan on him – and a good (kid-appropriate!) movie and…he’s good to go! Thanks so much, Gail – I’m glad you like the card! 🙂
