Good morning and happy Friday! The weekend arrives again – whoo-hoo!! Tomorrow is my friend’s 90th birthday party – we’re smoking three whole briskets so that’s on the list today. As well as a sheet cake and a bunch of deviled eggs (they’re her fave thing!). So…busy day! And – fingers crossed that Miss Sonya comes today, y’all!! I NEED her! 😳😳😳
My card today is a faux side-step card – it’s a fun fold that I’ve made a few times before – and a few of my team have recently made them, too – reminding me of how fun they are. So…this one had a masculine flair and showcases the stunning Earthen Textures bundle and some beautiful Earthen Elegance DSP (which is ON SALE!!). Take a look-see:
I played along with The Paper Players this week!
I started with a 5 1/2″ x 8″ piece of Pecan Pie cardstock that, using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool, I scored along the long side at 3″, 6″ and 7″. I folded the scored lines as a mountain (3″), valley (6″) and mountain (7″). This is the main card base.
Then I scored a 3″ x 6″ piece of Pecan Pie cardstock at 4 1/4″ – and folded it as a mountain. That’s the side-step panel.
I matted a piece of Misty Moonlight Earthen Elegance DSP on a Moody Mauve mat and adhered it to the larger front panel of the main card base. I matted a strip of a different design and adhered it to the narrow panel on the front of the main card base.
I created the inner liner by first stamping an Earthen Textures sentiment in Misty Moonlight on a piece of Gray Granite cardstock. In the corner, I stamped the smaller vase from Earthen Textures in Moody Mauve. I made a little mask of the vase – stamping it on a sticky note and fussy cutting it – and set it over the vase. Then I stamped the twigs image in Pretty Peacock ink.
I matted the panel on Moody Mauve and then adhered it to the inside of the card.
I matted a third design of Earthen Elegance DSP on Moody Mauve and adhered it to the larger side of the side-step panel using Liquid Glue.
Then I cut some pieces & parts using the Earthen Textures Dies:
– A Moody Mauve tall vase.
– An Earthen Elegance DSP shorter vase.
– A Pecan Pie southwest “grid” shape.
– A Pretty Peacock feather.
– A Pecan Pie large leaf.
– A Misty Moonlight “grass”.
I used a little Stampin’ Seal to wrap Natural 1/4″ Wavy Trim around the tall Moody Mauve vase, securing it in the back with Glue Dots.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the Pecan Pie “grid” to the shorter vase – trimming the excess with Paper Snips.
I folded the large Pecan Pie die cut leaf on each of the score lines – made when the die cuts out the leaf.
Then I adhered everything to the side-step panel.
I adhered the Misty Moonlight grass and Pretty Peacock feather with Liquid Glue – making sure they didn’t extend past the fold of the side-step panel.
Then I adhered the Moody Mauve vase with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I added the Pecan Pie leaf (it can extend past the side!) and the smaller vase with Liquid Glue.
On a piece of Gray Granite, I stamped the Earthen Textures sentiment in Misty Moonlight and cut it out with the larger vase die. I used a Paper Trimmer to trim the sides – making the piece smaller.
I cut the vase again from Pretty Peacock cardstock and adhered the sentiment to it with Liquid Glue. Then I trimmed the ends and adhered the matted sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Using Liquid Glue on the bottom of the back of the side-step panel – I adhered it to the front of the card base – lining up the bottom edges.
I closed the card and then used Liquid Glue to adhere the smaller end of the panel to the back of the larger card base.
On another piece of Gray Granite, I stamped the small vase in Moody Mauve – then placed the sticky note mat over the top. I stamped the Earthen Textures feather in Pretty Peacock and the twigs image in Gray Granite.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Moody Mauve mat and then onto the back of the main card base – covering the “seam” of the side-step panel.
I added some Copper Clay 2023-2024 In Color Dots to the front of the card – and the card was done!
My Basic White Medium Envelope got the small Earthen Textures vase, feather and twigs on the front…
…and more of the Earthen Elegance DSP on the envelope flap.
Et Voila! I love these faux side-step cards – they look awesome and are so much easier to make than a “real” side-step card! And they give you lots and lots of real estate for decorating – and the beautiful Earthen Elegance DSP and coordinating Earthen Textures Bundle is SO up for the job!! It’s one of my fave suites in the new catalog!!
I hope you like!
