For today, I wanted to give you a look at the December Paper Pumpkin kit. Now – I don’t love every kit that comes to the door.
Shocked that I’d say so?

I sat down to make my kit today and was done in just about an hour – with 8 cards and matching (and decorated!) envelopes!
Probably hard to see – but that’s Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper behind the lovely flowers and leaves.
The color scheme for this one is Crumb Cake, Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst, Peekaboo Peach and Calypso Coral!
The kit is totally inclusive (except for the acrylic block – you’ll get that with your first month’s kit!) and this one even has pre-cut strips of tear-and-tape adhesive!
I did go a little beyond the basic card – stamping the inside of the card – with Crumb Cake leaves, Calypso Coral flowers and Berry Burst butterflies – all from the included stamp set…
And – you know me – no nekkid envelopes…
This is a really fun kit – and it has an awesome stamp set with it!!

Finn Fan Fix
The past couple of mornings have been cool and foggy.
My favorite kind of weather – it reminds me of growing up in Southern CA. I loved that coastal fog!
Of course – I was a kid, so had no appreciation for the hazards of driving in such soup – I simply loved it – the muted sounds – the blurred…everything. 🙂
Finn and I did our morning runs in the fog.
I love how our pastures look in the fog…
…and I love the surprise of white-tails flipped in disdain at my goofy little dog “hunter”…

But – I did take this picture driving back to the hotel yesterday. One advantage to working on a day when the whole rest of the base is off is…you can just stop in the middle of the road. One – to let the guy there at center photo meander across the road to rejoin his buddies and two…to take their picture! Genuine wild horses. Up close and personal.

So, here we are on day 3 of the Aussie Occupation. Last week – Wednesday? – when I “met” Finn online – I started imagining life with my new dog. We would take long walks together – he’d ride everywhere with me – we’d be a Therapy Pet team – herd some sheep – run some Agility. I’d sit at my desk and make cards while Finn slept angelically under the table….
Whoa! I can hear you laughing, y’all! Was it that last thing? The sleeping Aussie puppy?
I think it might happen – but….maybe 6 years from now! Today? This year? Yea. Not so much! This little dude is either asleep or going 1000 miles an hour! And there’s frequently not much warning about when that status is going to change…
Don’t get me wrong. He’s a sweet love and I wouldn’t change getting him for anything. But…I feel like I just brought home quadruplets! And this morning they turned two! For all you moms out there who still somehow manage to have a job and do something besides chase the kids….I salute you!
Today was another big day…first we watched some squirrels while chewing on our collar….
Then to the doctor for shots….
and then home for the post-vet crash. Those shots wipe a little kid out! 🙂
So it was a busy day for both of us. Which is why I decided to put my October Paper Pumpkin kit together for y’all today! Paper Pumpkin is the perfect way to get a little creative break from your children – two legged with thumbs or four legged without (thank the good Lord that he doesn’t have thumbs!). It comes with everything you need to knock out some great projects – including ink!
The October kit is a particularly good one called Season of Gratitude! It’s got Fall leaves and wonderful sentiments. And it makes shaker cards!
Eight cards, to be exact – you can make them vertically or horizontally, and use any of the sentiments in the Season of Gratitude stamp set that comes in the kit.
So I put them together – with the easy to follow instructions. It’s got all the Foam Adhesive Strips and Fall-colored sequins to make lovely shaker cards.
You use the crackle image to stamp the pre-cut Cajun Craze, Delightful Dijon and Pumpkin Pie squares and they end up behind the – pre-punched- leaves in the embossed Very Vanilla panel.
And – the kit includes 8 lined envelopes – I added a Cajun Craze leaf to the front of each of them.
I ended up with 8 great thank you cards (okay, the one in the picture above will need a little remedial work!) – and I have some Baker’s Twine and sequins left over. I think I’ll make a Vintage Leaves shaker card soon!
Consider Paper Pumpkin – it’s a nice little orange box to have sitting on the shelf just waiting for a day when all the kids and the job and the grocery shopping gets in the way of a little “me” time! 🙂

So here we are on Friday (yea!) and I spent my day…not card making…no, I spent my day cleaning out closets. Most of my day. Two closets. And a couple of drawers.
Why, you may ask?
Well – cuz I have company coming. From Russia! 🙂 In less than a month. Like…in 28 days. He’s my Russian “son” – he lived with Wayne and me for a year as an Exchange Student back when we lived in Alabama. He was a senior in high school and he wanted to graduate and get an American diploma.
Have I mentioned we don’t have kids? So – there we were, with a teenage Russian kid, experiencing all the angst of his senior year in high school, with acceptable – but not sterling! – English. And we hadn’t had any of the lead up – we had no real experience with kids.
It was so much fun. We went to the lake with him and tried to explain away Speedo’s on an Alabama lake! We took him to Colorado to visit my mom at Christmas. I ate caviar (not good!). We rode horses together. He helped us do a haunted hay ride at Halloween. He was “our” kid for a year.
We were sad when he left us. But we stayed in touch…sort of…for many years.
And then came Facebook! And a message asking if I was “Mom?”
And now, he’s jumped thru all the hoops and will be coming to stay in…28 days.
So – now I need to do some serious….SERIOUS….cleaning!
Also – the image of packed closets and rooms I’m afraid to go into haunt my dreams and wake me up. I fear that I’m just a couple of McDonald’s wrappers from being classified a hoarder! 🙁
So that’s what I did today. Not card make. As happens to so many of us – “real” life frequently got between me and my hobby of making cards.
