Stampin’ Up! Square Pillow Box Christmas Classics Ornament for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Good morning, y’all!  It’s Thursday – which means it’s time for another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop.  We’ve got a theme challenge to work with and I’m excited to see what everyone brings to the table.  I just know you’re going to see a ton of awesome-ness on the hop today!

I pulled out a little sumpin’-sumpin’ that some of us demonstrators got to get our hands on WAAAY early!  It’s the Square Pillow Boxes from the Jan – Apr 2024 Mini Catalog!  Yes.  It’s almost time for a NEW catalog! Now – there’s lots of things you can do with these fun 3-D treat holders – but…I decided to turn one into a treat holder/Christmas Ornament.  I used the Joy of Noel Dies and some of the Christmas Classics bundle to get it done!  Take a look-see:

And – here’s our theme!

Some elements I used are thanks to this week’s Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge. I went across the bottom (Shape Die – Copper – Leave/Foliage) and the diagonal (Metallic – Free – Copper).  And I got embossing, too! 🙂

The Square Pillow Boxes ship flat – so you’ll want to decorate them BEFORE you fold the score lines and put the box together.

I used a Blending Brush to color all over the box with Pretty Peacock ink.  Then, I stamped the Joy of Noel pine bough all over in Shaded Spruce ink.  I added the holly leaves from Christmas Classics in Old Olive.

I started working all the folds, gently bending them until the little box took shape.  Then I pulled the covers off the adhesive on the box – and secured all the flaps together.

I used a very expensive and precise hole punch – from the grocery store! – to punch a hole in two corners.  I threaded some Silver Threaded Twine thru each hole and tied a knot in the ends to make the hangar.

On a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, I stamped the sentiment from Christmas Classics in Versamark Ink, sprinkled it with Copper Emboss Powder and heat set it with the heat tool.

I used the die from Christmas Classics to cut out the sentiment.

I cut out a Shaded Spruce pine bough using the Joy of Noel die, an Old Olive holly leaf and a Pretty Peacock Glimmer Paper leaf – both using a Christmas Classics die.  Note: the Three Color Glimmer Paper is an online exclusive that you’ll be able to pick up on 7 November! 🙂

Using Liquid Glue, I adhered the die cut bough and leaves to the front of the box.

Over the top – I adhered the die cut sentiment with a few Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a few dots of Copper Metallic Enamel Effects (and then set it aside to give those plenty of time to dry!).

And – that was all there was to it.

Well….

…it WAS kinda empty. 🤷‍♀️

So…I fixed that! For your treat planning purposes – it will easily hold FIVE Ghiradelli squares!

Et Voila!  These Square Pillow Boxes are…perfectly sized for little-gift-giving, treat gifting, etc.  It won’t really hold a gift card – but it WILL hold good ole cashola!  And it’s easy – and fun! – to decorate to suit your occasion!  With Joy of Noel and Christmas Classics – it was a no-brainer to turn it into a Christmas ornament!

  2. Mary, I never would have thought that it would mail flat. BUT, I’m wondering if you made a bunch and they are going full blown to the retreat. Am I right?

To be clear – the ornament doesn’t mail flat AFTER it’s assembled – they mail flat in their packaging!! Thank you so much! And no – sadly, I didn’t bring a bevy of them to the retreat! 🙂
