Happy Friday, y’all! It’s been a busy time here for us – Wayne’s been working outside, sawing lumber and repairing fences. Mowing the never-ending grass. We’ve worked in the garden – you can see a little of the “fruits” of our labors in Finn’s spot below. And, of course, it’s been hot and muggy and generally….the South-in-Summer!
Which is why, with all my Aug – Dec 2020 Mini Catalog pre-order goodies looking me in the face, I’ve been making some winter-ish cards. As I predicted when I was griping about being cold a few months ago…now? Yep. Griping about being hot. My 4 degree comfort-zone-window is being breached at every turn! LOL!
If you were able to join me yesterday for my YouTube live, I appreciate you spending some time with me – if not, but you’d like to see the replay, here ’tis! 🙂
This is a really cool fun-fold, it’s called a Dutch-Door Gate Fold and I think you’ll see why in a sec. I used the beautiful new Sweetest Time stamp set with the amazing and bundled Sweetest Borders Dies. Take a look-see:
Yes – if you’re looking closely – you’ll see that this card looks different from the card in the video thumbnail. There’s a reason for that – and you’ll need to watch the video to find out what it is! 🙂
For this one, I started by scoring, cutting and folding a 7 1/2″ x 11″ piece of Real Red card stock as shown in the video – and according to this template…
Once I had it all cut and folded, I decorated the gates with some pretty, new Plush Poinsettia Specialty DSP matted on Mossy Meadow. I used Glue Dots – hidden behind the flocked images on the DSP – to adhere it to the mats and then used Liquid Glue to adhere the panels to the fronts of the gates.
Pretty, huh? 🙂
I stamped the three-candle image from Sweetest Time in Real Red on Whisper White and fussy cut it, then popped it onto a Whisper White panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added a Daffodil Delight “flame” above each candle with the little stamp in the set.
Using the dies in the Sweetest Borders Dies, I cut a bunch of holly leaves and pine boughs in Pear Pizzazz and Mossy Meadow. I also stamped berries in Real Red and cut them out as well.
I added the leaves and boughs around the candles with Liquid Glue. I tied a bow with the Gold Trim from the Wonder of the Season Ribbon Combo pack and adhered it with a Glue Dot. Finally, I adhered the berries with Liquid Glue and Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
On a strip of Whisper White, I stamped the Sweetest Time sentiment in Mossy Meadow, snipped banner ends and adhered it with Liquid Glue – and a Mini Stampin’ Dimensional on each end. I used more Liquid Glue to mat the panel on Mossy Meadow and adhere it to the top panel of the card base – and the front of the gate card was done!
On the inside, I added a second Sweetest Time sentiment in Mossy Meadow to a Whisper White panel. Under it, I stamped Real Red candles and Daffodil Delight flames, as well as a couple of Pear Pizzazz holly leaves.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Mossy Meadow mat and into the card base – and the card was done!
My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another candle and holly leaves on the front…
…and added the candles to the envelope flap, as well!
Et Voila! This Sweetest Time stamp set – and its bundled (and AWESOME!) Sweetest Borders Dies – is a great bundle to have in your kit bag as we get ready to head into the holiday season.
And don’t miss the gorgeous Plush Poinsettia Specialty DSP (you can get a taste of it in my Aug – Dec 2020 Mini Catalog Shares!)…
Hint: you can actually cut those flocked poinsettia flowers with one of the dies in the new Poinsettia Dies set! Cool, huh?
I hope you like and are adding these goodies to your gotta-have-it-right-away list! The catalog goes live on 4 Aug for customers or… you could join Stampin’ Up! with me right now and select any or all of these new goodies to fill your Starter Kit and then get at least 20% off EVERYTHING you buy for as long as you stay active! 😉

P.S. This is the card in the video thumbnail! It’s a CASE of the sample card on page 21 in the Aug – Dec 2020 Mini Catalog and it uses the fun edgelit die with the holly leaves and pine boughs. I explain in the video how to make it if you prefer this version! Yup – it’s a two-fer. Sort of! 😉

Finn asked me to share a little garden bounty with you.
So here it is – our first Mater Sandwich tomato of the season (which – fun fact – is on a plant that I’d pretty much given up for dead 5 weeks ago!!)
These pictures are about 2 days apart!
Big and starting to get a little blush…
A little more…
…and almost Wonder-Bread-and-mayonnaise ready!
I’m trying to decide…mater sandwich on white bread/mayo/salt/pepper? Or…big slab of mater on half of an Everything Bagel – salt/pepper/slice of cheese on top – under the broiler for a little toast!?!
Both?!?
Decisions decisions… 🙂
TTFN
M
Both! I also love maters, cheese, a lil salt & pepper on toast. YUM!
Yum, indeed!! So many sammies – so many calories!! But…worth it! Thanks, Krista! 🙂
Either, or, but I want bacon on mine!
Great video, beautiful card. I didn’t want that set, and I am not sure I will get it, but it has moved to the wish list. For the record, I like the one you did on the video better than the original.
My comfort zone was sorely taxed last week and tomorrow we are in a heat advisory. I’m done with summer already, except for the lure of the tomatoes! Ours aren’t ripe yet.
Is that tomato from the plant about which you emailed me because it was dying? What did you do to save it?
YES! From that exact plant. We moved it to a pot. And watered it. And Wayne wouldn’t let me toss it. Darned thing rallied like crazy – and the SECOND one is doing the same. We did nothing else except hit it with Neem oil – like we started on the whole garden. And thanks for the bacon idea – now I have THREE sammies I’ve gotta have! LOL! Thanks!
Such a pretty card! Love both versions! Your tomato looks quite yummy!! Wonder Bread…ewwww! Bagel with cheese all the way! 😉
Ahhh – don’t knock the beauty of Wonder Bread/mayo/ripe summer tomato. It’s a singular pleasure!! Thanks, Amy! 🙂
Great cards! I can’t decide which one I like better. And I vote for the bagel with the tomato and cheese. I can’t wait for the tomatoes to ripen in Maryland!
Yes – the bagel option is sure yummy!! I fear I’ll end up doing BOTH!! Thanks very much, Beth – hoping you get ripe maters soon! 🙂
Only one for me on the card (the one you created on the fly) and both for the sammies!
LOL! See my problem? I think I’m going to have to go with BOTH, too! Thanks, Karen! 🙂
Good morning Mary!
Wow! I’m jealous…but i’ d go with the white bread option! Loved this card & It inspired me (as always). I’m going to try making a nativity card with this fold. I’ll probably angle cut the gate. I’ll try to share when finished.
Thanks for sharing.
Sue Floyd
Oh – sounds like a great change to the card!! Thanks, Sue! 🙂
Mater on soft gooey white bread!
These 2 cards are beautiful and I can’t decide which I like better. I wish you hadn’t made them because I don’t want to want this set! I have already bought more than I need since it doesn’t look like many classes are on on the horizon but you keep enabling me to buy more! Thanks again (I think) for sharing! Have a great day! 🙂
A woman after my own heart! 😉 Thanks very much, Debbie and…sorry?? LOL! 🙂
BLT!!!
Oh yes!! 🙂
The card is great and all of that jazz, but I’m really a gardener at heart and not a card maker! LOL Sooo . . . I especially love your garden pics. Here’s a tip: Once, when making a BLT, I realized I didn’t have any lettuce. Cucumbers from the garden to the rescue! My husband and I both now prefer BCT’s! Make sure they’re cold and slice them really thin. Yummo!!! Seriously, though, your card is awesome!
Oh – THAT sounds yummo! I love just a cucumber/mayo/salt/pepper (on white bread!!) sandwich anyway – so with tomatoes!? AND bacon?? Yes, please! Thanks so much for the tip! 🙂
Well, now you’ve got me started! LOL This is my all-time fav sandwich: Ciabatta roll, grilled. Homemade pesto (I freeze in ice cube trays) Add a dollop of mayo to the pesto and smear on both sides of bread. Add fresh basil leaves, cucumbers (Sweet Success from Burpee are my fav), red onion, tomato, roasted red peppers (which freeze great! Thunderbolt from Burpee are my fav), and sliced soft mozzarella cheese (can get a double pack at Costco!) Sometimes we add a slice of grilled eggplant. Add and delete veggies, as you wish. Everything comes from the garden, except the bread and mozzarella. Best ever!!!
Oh man! You had me at ciabatta roll! We buy the pre-split packs at Costco and keep them in the freezer for handy access! This sandwich sounds AWESOME!! Definitely going on the list! Thank you, Angie!
I really liked the first card but believe I love the second even more. I especially liked watching your creative process unfold as you tried different options. I vote for plain old mater on white with Duke’s mayo first, then go for all the options. Nothin like th taste of that first mater sammie! Slice it good and thick!
Oh – it’s gonna be a SLAB!! 🙂 Thanks, Susan – glad you enjoyed the processing! 🙂 That one is my fave, too! 🙂
