Stampin’ Up! Best Catch Fun Fold with Video Tutorial for The Paper Players

Hey y’all – it’s Sunday, which means I’ve got another fun challenge for you from the Paper Players – it’s a nice, open sketch challenge from the talented Laurie this week and it’ll for sure jump-start your creative mojo!  I hope you’ll come and play along.  🙂

If you were able to join me yesterday for my Facebook Live video, I appreciate you spending some of your weekend with me!  If you weren’t able to watch the live version, but you’d like to see the replay on YouTube…here ’tis!

Today is Wayne’s birthday so I made him a card!  And, since he’s a fisherman and…a guy!…a fun-fold with a fishing theme seemed like the way to go.  It ended up being kind of an homage to several wonderful retiring goodies – including the Best Catch stamp set and bundled Catch of the Day die set.  Take a look-see:

And here’s this week’s Paper Players CAS challenge!  Hope you’ll join the fun and show us your projects!  I can’t wait to see what you create!  🙂

I also played along with the TGIF Challenge this week!

I started with a piece of Night of Navy card stock that I embossed in the High Seas 3D Embossing Folder (yes – this is RETIRING, so…get it quick!).  Then I matted it on a piece of Soft Suede for the card front.

The accordian fold is 4 1/4″ x 9″.  I colored the “sky” with my Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blends Combo and the ground with my Crumb Cake Combo.  Then, using the little “gravel” image in the Best Catch set, I stamped all over the “ground” in Soft Suede.  I stamped the image two or three times without re-inking.

Next, I scored the panel with my Simply Scored tool at 1″, 2″, 4″ and 6″.  I burnished the folds – starting with a “mountain” at 1″ and then valley (2″), mountain (4″) and valley (6″).

On the third panel, in Night of Navy ink, I stamped a sentiment from Best Catch.  Then I adhered the folded panel to a Soft Suede mat and onto the card front with Liquid Glue.

On a piece of Whisper White – I made a big ole splotch of Old Olive using my Old Olive Stampin’ Blends Combo.  I just used both blends to scribble a big enough “background” to cut three of the grass dies in the Catch of the Day set.  While I had it out, I also cut four of them from the Old Olive color in the Perennial Essence Vellum (Retiring).

I colored all the tops of the cattails with the Dark Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend.

The Best Catch bass is stamped in Soft Suede on Whisper White and cut with the matching Catch of the Day die. Then I colored it with my Old Olive, Calypso Coral and Early Espresso Watercolor Pencils.

Finally, I stamped the fisher-dude in Soft Suede, and cut him with his die.  He’s also colored with the Watercolor Pencils.  His little “water” swirly is colored with the Balmy Blue Blends.

Using Liquid Glue (or Glue Dots for the vellum grasses), I adhered the pieces on various panels – being sure to not interfere with the folds!  I nestled the bass in and amongst some grass…and used my Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker to hand-draw a few birds in the corner.

The final piece is the sentiment.  It’s a word cut with the Well Written Dies (yep – also retiring!).  I cut three of them in Night of Navy and adhered them in a stack with Liquid Glue.  Then I adhered just the first part of the sentiment to the first panel.  and the card front was done!

On the inside, I added a second sentiment (this one is from the Bonanza Buddies stamp set – which is retiring, too!) in Night of Navy to a Whisper White panel.  I colored some “shore” at the bottom of the panel and stamped the creel in Soft Suede and a hat in Crumb Cake.  I lightly colored both images with my Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend and the Early Espresso Watercolor Pencil.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Soft Suede mat and into my Night of Navy card base, and to adhere the card front and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more shoreline and Best Catch fishing gear on the front…

…and I added a little Come Sail Away DSP (you guessed it….going away!) on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  So – this card – with it’s Best Catch, Catch of the Day, Bonanza Buddies, Well Written, Come Sail Away DSP, Perennial Essence Vellum and High Seas 3D Embossing Folder (whew!) – is a true memoriam to some wonderful products that will be gone-baby-gone SOON!  So – if you don’t have them in your stash, you need to remedy that right away!  Remember – while the stamps will for sure be around thru the end of the catalog – ALL the rest is “while supplies last”.  So…tarry not!

If you want to recreate this card – all the Stampin’ Up! products you need are listed down below along with the card cuts!

Now – before you reach for your ink and papers, check out what our amazing team has created to inspire you this week:

Stampin’ Up! We’ll Walrus Be Friends Birthday!

Hey y’all!  Happy Friday!  Just make it thru the day and it’ll be the weekend!  And Father’s Day!! 🙂

So – I really ought to have a Father’s Day card to share with you – but…instead…birthday!  Using a so-cute little set called We’ll Walrus Be Friends.  Which – you can get in my Special Bundle #5 – Wild & Wiggly!  And the High Seas 3D Embossing Folder.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one comes from this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I started by embossing a Thick Whisper White panel in the new High Seas 3D Embossing Folder and matting it on Pool Party card stock for the card front.

I took the same folder and swiped the embossing side with my Seaside Spray ink pad, then I embossed a piece of Thick Whisper White card stock.  That created a sort of icy-looking sea, don’t you think?  I cut the panel down to size, matted it on Pool Party and then adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I stamped the We’ll Walrus Be Friends image on a piece of Whisper White and Vellum card stock in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  I colored the walrus using my Light and Dark Gray Granite Stampin’ Blends.  His muzzle uses the Ivory Blend with the Light Gray Granite Blend laid over the top.

On the Whisper White image, I used my Balmy Blue Light and Dark Blends to color the water.  I used the same blends to color the back of the vellum water image.  And I used my Light and Dark Pool Party Blends on the back of the iceberg part of the vellum image.

I fussy cut the entire Whisper White image and just the iceberg and water of the Vellum image – then used Glue Dots to adhere the Vellum over the Whisper White image.  Then I popped the whole thing onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped sentiments from We’ll Walrus Be Friends on Pool Party,. Balmy Blue and Seaside Spray card stocks (I used a Sticky Note to mask off “hi” on the middle sentiment!), then cut them with the Classic Label Punch.  I edged each sentiment with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker and popped them all on with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a few Noble Peacock Rhinestones and the card front was done!

On the inside, I added another We’ll Walrus Be Friends sentiment and a couple more fun images in Tuxedo Black to a Whisper White panel.  I used my Light and Dark Gray Granite, Balmy Blue and Pool Party Blends, plus the Ivory Blend, to color the images.  I added another Noble Peacock Rhinestone, too.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Pool Party mat and into my Seaside Spray card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimemsionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more fishies on the front…

…and another Walrus on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  How.  Cute.  Is.  This.  Stamp set?!?  I mean…seriously.  We’ll Walrus Be Friends – another one you may have missed in the new catalog!  I do hope you’ll check it out – heck – get it with some other fun goodies in my Special Bundle #5 Wild & Wiggly and save a little green.  And – you can pick up the High Seas 3D Embossing Folder for FREE when you purchase Special Bundle # 6: Let’s Hear It For The Boys!  I hope you like!

New 3D Embossing Folder Plate Now Available!

The new 3D Embossing Folder Plate (item 149658) is now available to order! It’s designed to work with our new-style 3D embossing folders (which are thinner than our old-style Dynamic folders).

You can click on the picture above and open the flyer – then print it and keep it by your embossing machine and new 3D Embossing Folder Plate.  It’s got your new “sandwich” information right on it!

Remember that carryover 3D embossing folders will not be available to order at the start of the new catalog but I’ll let you know when they’re available to order.

Also keep in mind that we expect to receive staggered plate shipments in all markets during June and July as we build inventory. Which means, you may experience periods of time when it is unavailable to order if inventory is depleted; it will become available to order again when inventory is replenished.

How to Use the New Plate

The new plate makes up the difference in measurement between our old-style Dynamic Folders and our new-style 3D Folders in most die-cutting machines. The 3D Embossing Folder Plate replaces the Standard Cutting Pads in your 3D embossing folder sandwich for continued high-quality emboss results.

To create your emboss sandwich:

  • Use a die-cutting & embossing machine platform as a base; no matter which machine you’re using, use the standard platform which comes with your machine.
  • Use the 3D Embossing Folder with your paper in the middle.
  • Then use the 3D Embossing Folder Plate on top.

Given the differences in machines and platforms, you may still have to add a shim to get your desired embossing results. (You can also spritz your paper before embossing to maximize your embossed impressions.)

Without the new 3D Embossing Folder Plate, you will need to use several shims with the Standard Cutting Pad in your 3D embossing folder sandwich, depending on the die-cutting & embossing machine you use. Most machines will need between three to five sheets of cardstock to shim. Please be careful in how you shim; start out with fewer sheets first, then add sheets to get your desired results.  Stampin’ Up! won’t be responsible for replacing products broken due to using a sandwich which is too thick for a machine.
