Stampin’ Up! Daisies, Baskets and Butterfly Basics Birthday for the Stamp Ink Paper #138

Happy Tuesday, folks – and welcome to another edition of the Stamp Ink Paper challenge!

We had a Cardmaker’s Choice challenge this week – which means….it was wide open!

For this one, I pulled out an oldie-but-a-goodie, called Butterfly Basics.  Then I added some new goodies – like the Basket Weave Dynamic TIEF and the Celebrate You Thinlits.  Take a look-see:

Here’s the Stamp Ink Paper challenge badge with a link so you can come play, too! Continue reading

Stampin’ Up! Hey, Chic Stacker!

Happy Hawmp Day, y’all – we’re racing towards the weekend once again.  This time, I’m not really ready for the weekend to arrive.  Going out of town for three days and…do you think I have my cards ready for the weekend??  Nope.  Not even close!  So – keep your fingers crossed that my creative juices flow the next couple of days, okay?  🙂

Finn is very fast.

Perhaps you didn’t know that.

He’s a speed demon!

I have proof!

finn-speeding-with-a-stick

He raced around that pile of logs about 5 times, as fast as he could go, carrying that danged stick!

And then…

finn-really-really-panting
The natural result of racing around like a fool!  Excessive panting.

finn-in-the-pond-1
Followed by his new favorite thing – ponding!  He drinks and wades and tries to get sticks out of the water.  And this morning, he added – dunking his belly in!  Just a quick little lay-down to cool off quicker!

And make mom get the towel out!

My card for today follows a trend you can see all over Pinterest.  Stacking chickens.

I don’t know why people are stacking chickens so much – it just ain’t natural! – but they are.  So I thought I’d give it another shot.  The Sale-A-Bration stamp set called Hey, Chick gave me the whole cast of characters.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Basket of Wishes, Paisleys and Butterflies

Before I get going, I was thrilled to learn the other day that my card from Sunday was a winner at the Stamps Ink Paper challenge!  I’m very grateful to the good folks over there for selecting my card – there were a lot of really great entries, so this is a real honor!  If you want to see this card, check it out right here.  And here’s a link to the blogpost where they announced the winners – do take a minute to check them all out! 🙂

Happy Hawmmp Day, y’all!  Hope your week is going well and that the results of yesterday’s election didn’t send you into a deep funk!  If it did – pull out your card making supplies and make something pretty.  It’s a sure-fire way to distract your mind!

Finn doesn’t give a rat’s patootty about the election.  Just isn’t important to him.  What he cares about these days is…chipmunks.  He thinks they’re self-propelled furry toys placed on the planet for his amusement.  I am sad to report that he actually caught one the other day.  The encounter didn’t go well for the chippy.  Which makes me sad.  Cuz I like the little buggers.  But….he’s a dog.  High on the food chain.  Predator.  Chippy’s are….prey.

So – I can’t really be mad at him.  A bit disappointed?  Yes.  In my eyes, he was just a happy little curly-haired soul bouncing thru life.  What a shock to discover that there’s still “dog” under all that cuteness! 🙂

On the other hand, we’ve had a couple of good close-encounters with the cats.  He’s stood in front of them (on the leash!) while they’re laying on their bed and they didn’t run.  And he didn’t bounce!  So everyone was happy.  I think his encounter with the “beast-cat” at his playdate helped him a lot!

Okay – on to the card for today!  I went completely and totally away from Christmas for this one.  And I pulled out some older stamp sets and thinlits, combining them with a sentiment from the Basket of Wishes stamp set and one from Paisleys & Posies.  Take a look-see:

My design was inspired by the Mojo Monday sketch for this week:

mm-473-sketch

And the colors and theme are from the latest Stamp Ink Paper challenge.

sip-73-sketch
Okay – this one wasn’t difficult, but there are a few steps, so bear with me.

Please don’t bare with me.  That just ain’t fittin’! 😉

To begin, I used a piece of Marina Mist card stock and stamped a sentiment from Basket of Wishes (“Thinking of You”) in Marina Mist ink all over the panel, then I matted it on a piece of Soft Sky card stock.  Then I cut a piece of Vellum card stock the same size as the card front and embossed it in the Fluttering TIEF.  To tone it down a bit, I sponged the Vellum with Marina Mist ink.

basket-of-wishes-paisleys-and-butterflies-2-stamps-n-lingers
My main sentiment, also from Basket of Wishes, is stamped in Wisteria Wonder on Whisper White, cut with an oval die from the Ovals Layering Framelits, and matted on a scalloped edge oval in Soft Sky.

The art work consists of a couple of images from the Butterfly Basics stamp set.  I stamped the flower in Basic Gray Archival Ink on a Whisper White square.  Then I colored it with my Aqua Pen.

Now – this past weekend at OnStage, I learned something that y’all may already know, but I didn’t.  Put 70% Rubbing Alcohol in your Aqua Painter!  It’s a tad thicker than water, and it really does a great job coloring – much smoother and easier to blend than water.  So that’s what I did!

basket-of-wishes-paisleys-and-butterflies-3-stamps-n-lingers
I colored the flower with Pink Pirouette (picking the ink up from the lid of the ink pad) and shaded it with Blushing Bride.  Then I used Mint Macaron for the stem.  I inked up the honeycomb image from Butterfly Basics in Marina Mist and stamped it off once before stamping it all around the flower.  Finally, I matted the square on a scalloped-edge Soft Sky mat.

Another demonstration we saw at the WCMD event this weekend was one on Textures and Layering.  I was really impressed by Kimberly Van Diepen’s presentation, so I tried to incorporate some elements she showed us.  I tore a piece of a Delicate White Doily and used Liquid Glue to adhere it to the back of my square.

basket-of-wishes-paisleys-and-butterflies-1-stamps-n-lingers
Then I used a Glue Dot to adhere a few loops of Silver Metallic Thread to the back of the square.

At this point, I dry fit the oval and the square.  Then I adhered the Vellum panel I made earlier to the card front, using Liquid Glue under the spots where I planned to put my other elements.

Next, I used some Silver 5/8″ Satin Ribbon and some Pool Party 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon and adhered them across the card front for the horizontal element of the sketch.  Finally, I adhered the art square over all that with Liquid Glue.

Still with me?? 🙂

My butterflies come from two spots.  I punched two Marina Mist little guys from Subtles Designer Series Paper with the Bitty Butterfly punch.  The large butterfly was stamped with Watercolor Wings, using Marina Mist and Wisteria Wonder ink – this is a 3-step stamp.  Then I cut it with the matching die from Bold Butterfly Framelits – and I also cut a second butterfly in Silver Foil.  I adhered the two layers together with Liquid Glue and then adhered it and the two Bitty Butterflies to the card.  Then I gave them all some Pearl Basic Jewel bodies.

basket-of-wishes-paisleys-and-butterflies-8-stamps-n-lingers
I adhered the sentiment oval with Liquid Glue, then added a couple of leaves – cut with the little dies in Swirly Scribbles from Silver Foil, and a Petite Petals flower punched from Mint Macaron Designer Series Paper and embellished with a Soft Sky heart Enamel Shape.

And that was it for the card front!

Whew! 🙂

On the inside, I added a sentiment from Paisleys & Posies in Wisteria Wonder on a Whisper White panel.  Then I added some stamped-off-once Marina Mist butterflies from Butterfly Basics.

basket-of-wishes-paisleys-and-butterflies-5-stamps-n-lingers
I SNAILd it to a Soft Sky mat and into a Marina Mist card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

The front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope got more stamped-off-once Marina Mist Butterfly Basics butterflies…

basket-of-wishes-paisleys-and-butterflies-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and an envelope flap with more of the Marina Mist Designer Series Paper.

basket-of-wishes-paisleys-and-butterflies-7-stamps-n-lingers
Et Voila!  Nothing difficult or confusing – just of a lot of steps.  But, sometimes, it just takes some extra effort (and a bunch of tools!!) to get a card how you want it, right?  Hope you like – and think it was worth the time! 🙂

Scroll on down for the card cuts and all the goodies you need to make this one for yourself!

Stampin’ Up! Fluttering Butterfly Basics for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  it’s Thursday and that means it’s Happy Stampers Blog Hop Day!  I’m writing to you from Savannah, GA today – and will be for a few more weeks.  I’m all set up with all my stuff – including my Stamp-N-Storage Combo Ink Pd Holder!  You can perhaps imagine the looks I got as I schlepped all my stuff into the hotel yesterday! Fortunately, one of the sweet guys I work with followed me to the hotel and helped me do the schlepping!  I haven’t unpacked yet.  Baby steps! 🙂

My card for today uses – obviously! – the same sketch that all the ladies used.  So…you may see a lot of butterflies as you hop around! 🙂

12299132_1305624209464151_5553420553848870846_n
I used the Butterfly Basics bundle (with the Butterflies Thinlits) and the big and beautiful Fluttering TIEF.  Fortunately, these are both staying with us into the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog!  I teamed them with the Birthday Bouquet DSP….which is not carrying over.  So – if you love this paper as much as I do – grab it while it’s still around! Anyway – take a look-see:

Triple Butterfly Basics 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I started by SNAILing a piece of that Mossy Meadow Birthday Bouquet DSP to a panel of Blushing Bride card stock to form the card front.  I edged the card stock with my Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker.

For the white portion of the card, I laid a piece of White Corrugated Paper sort of cockamamy on the card front, and lightly drew a pencil line on the back to show where I wanted to cut.  Then I did – with my Stampin’ Trimmer!  Very scientific.  I did the same for its Blushing Bride mat.

Triple Butterfly Basics 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Before I SNAILd that corrugated paper to its mat, I ran it thru the Fluttering TIEF, making sure that the DE-bossing side of the folder was on the ridged side of the panel.  With that done, I SNAILd it to its mat and then to the card front.

The sentiment is a strip of new Flirty Flamingo card stock, stamped in Mossy Meadow with the sentiment from Butterfly Basics. Then I punched the banner end with the Banner Triple Punch.  I cut a Blushing Bride strip a little bigger, edged it with the Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker and SNAILd them together – and then to the card front!

Triple Butterfly Basics 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

The butterfly was cut with the middle-sized die in the Butterflies Thinlits.  I first cut one from Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper. And one from Birthday Bouquet DSP.  And I couldn’t decide whether to put the DSP flutterby on top or on the bottom.  So I solved my dilemma by cutting a second Birthday Bouquet DSP butterfly! 🙂

I stuck them all together with….a tiny little Handheld Stapler staple! When I stuck on the strip of Pearls Basic Jewels…..no one will ever know there’s a staple there.  But that Glimmer Paper isn’t going anywhere! 🙂

Triple Butterfly Basics 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Before I stuck the butterfly to the card front, I used my Bone Folder to roll the wings a little – I rolled the top of the wings up and the bottom of the wings down.  I don’t know why…. 😉

I used some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere my triple butterfly to the card front, added one tiny Pearl to the sentiment strip, and the card front was done!

Triple Butterfly Basics 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers
For the inside, I used a panel of Whisper White card stock and embossed one butterfly in the bottom corner.  To do that, I laid the panel over the butterfly I wanted in the Fluttering TIEF.  Then I gently rubbed my thumb over it to sort of start the impression.  Then I used the Scoring Tool from my Simply Scored board to finish embossing the butterfly.  In case you can’t see it in the picture – the butterfly is DE-bossed….

Triple Butterfly Basics 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Then I SNAILd it to a Blushing Bride mat and into my Flirty Flamingo card base.

Triple Butterfly Basics 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
And, finally, I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

Triple Butterfly Basics 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
For the Whisper White Medium Envelope, I stamped one little butterfly from Butterfly Basics – in Flirty Flamingo.  A Flamingo Butterfly.  Hmmmm…..

Triple Butterfly Basics 8 - Stamps-N-Lingers
….and added a liner from Birthday Bouquet DSP, cutting it with my Envelope Liner Framelits.  Have you got yours, yet??  They’re leaving us, you remember! 😉

Triple Butterfly Basics 9 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et voila!  Veyr simple to make, folks.  The hardest part was getting the geometry right and that wasn’t really all that hard!  The DSP and the pretty butterfly do all the work on this one!  Hope you like!
