Stampin’ Up! Hey, Chic Stacker!

Happy Hawmp Day, y’all – we’re racing towards the weekend once again.  This time, I’m not really ready for the weekend to arrive.  Going out of town for three days and…do you think I have my cards ready for the weekend??  Nope.  Not even close!  So – keep your fingers crossed that my creative juices flow the next couple of days, okay?  🙂

Finn is very fast.

Perhaps you didn’t know that.

He’s a speed demon!

I have proof!

He raced around that pile of logs about 5 times, as fast as he could go, carrying that danged stick!

And then…

The natural result of racing around like a fool!  Excessive panting.

Followed by his new favorite thing – ponding!  He drinks and wades and tries to get sticks out of the water.  And this morning, he added – dunking his belly in!  Just a quick little lay-down to cool off quicker!

And make mom get the towel out!

My card for today follows a trend you can see all over Pinterest.  Stacking chickens.

I don’t know why people are stacking chickens so much – it just ain’t natural! – but they are.  So I thought I’d give it another shot.  The Sale-A-Bration stamp set called Hey, Chick gave me the whole cast of characters.  Take a look-see:

The design is based on the CAS(E) This Sketch layout.

And my colors were inspired by the Can You CASE It challenge…

I started with a simple piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  Using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I started stamping chickens!  The bottom chicken was stamped in Bermuda Bay.  Next came a Pumpkin Pie chicken and then two little eggs stamped in Crushed Curry.  I even added a third egg – he’s obviously the next up on the stack!

I made a couple of sticky note masks – one for each chicken and the eggs (turned out I didn’t need the egg masks).  Using the masks, I covered the chickens and added Crazy Hair – stamping him twice in Cherry Cobbler.

Then I got to coloring with my Stampin’ Write Markers, Watercolor Pencils and Blender Pens.  I used the Bermuda Bay Watercolor Pencil on the bottom, blended it with the Blender Pen and then touched up the stamped marks with the Bermuda Bay marker.  The next chicken was colored with the Pumpkin Pie pencil and shaded with my Cherry Cobbler marker.  I used the Daffodil Delight pencil on all the eggs.

And, of course, the eggs got Bermuda Bay legs.

Cuz….egg legs.

Crazy Hair got Crushed Curry and Bermuda Bay hair and tail feathers with my markers – and one is colored lightly with the Bermuda Bay pencil while his brother is colored with the Pumpkin Pie pencil.

I used the honeycomb image from the Butterfly Basics stamp set to lightly stamp – in Crushed Curry – around the edges of the panel – sometimes stamping a second time without re-inking.  I also lightly sponged the edges with Bermuda Bay, then SNAILd the panel to a Crushed Curry mat.

The sentiment, from Hey, Chick, is stamped on Crushed Curry with Bermuda Bay.  Then I cut it out with the cute little die in the Star Blast Edgelits.  I cut four more “frames” (the die cuts the frames at the same time it’s cutting the middle panel) in Bermuda Bay, and stacked them with Liquid Glue.  I adhered the sentiment and frame to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I added a little bit of “ground” with my Sahara Sand Marker.  Then, cuz I just felt the need to add some “bugs” – I stamped the little double-bug image from In the Meadow in Crushed Curry – stamping it twice without re-inking.  I did that a few times – and the card front was done!

On the inside, I repeated the Butterfly Basics honeycomb in Crushed Curry and brushed the edges with Bermuda Bay.  Then I stacked a couple more chickens – Crazy Hair finally got to be a main character in the stack! 🙂

I SNAILd the panel to a Crushed Curry mat and into my Cherry Cobbler card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got Crazy Hair on the front…

… and a dozen (or so!) eggs on the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  Hey, Chick is one of the cutest stamp sets we’ve got – and it’s…FREE!  Kind of a perfect combination, don’t you think??  Hope you like!

  1. Oh my gosh….this card cracks me up! It must have taken a wee bit of time to do all that masking and coloring. Great job! Love the colors you chose, along with naming one of the chicks 🙂

These chicks are just so much fun to create with …. who wouldn’t be cheered by receiving your stacked chicks card?!! I know an elderly couple who were recently involved in a car accident and will be in rehab for several months. I plan on making a similar card to yours, send it to this couple and see if I can add some sunshine and giggles to their day. Speaking of which …. Finn’s adventures always add sunshine and giggles to my day. Thank you for sharing your sweet buddy with all of us.

    • You’re very welcome, Rita – he’s fun to share! Thanks much and good luck with your plan to bring sunshine and giggles!! 🙂
