Stampin’ Up! Spooky, Batty Halloween Fun for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop. We have a sketch challenge this week – and it was a wild one – took me a minute to come up with an idea for this one, folks!  It’s our first hop with the Holiday Catalog LIVE – so everything that everyone uses today….you’ll be able to buy!  Holiday Catty or Annual….all of it’s up for grabs!  Be sure to check out all our hoppers today, okay?

Here’s the sketch we were all working from:

I might have gotten a little jiggy with our challenge this week! I wanted to do a Halloween card with new Holiday Catalog goodies, so I picked the Spooky Fun stamp set with its bundled Halloween Scenes Edgelits.  And I snagged a few batty images from Halloween Scares.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Sneak Peek – Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween!

Good morning, y’all – it’s Tuesday and I have a confession to make.  This may come as a shocker.

I sometimes overthink my cards.

Yes – it’s true.  I especially do this when I’ve spent the day doing all sorts of things that have nothing to do with making cards.  Today – well, Monday – I moved furniture around in my living room.  And laundered the dog-bed-turned-cat-bed.  And vacuumed.  And set up another table to make a photo-booth area.  And talked on the phone with work.  And with Wayne.  Reset the clocks on the cat feeders.  Scrubbed spots on the carpet.

The end result of all this spinning was that I started thinking about a card for today – Tuesday – at 5:30.  That’s pretty late for me.  The lateness just makes me hurry and make mistakes.  And – overthink every little piece. 😉

I did have a sketch to work from, so that helped.  And I did know I wanted to do a non-Christmas card.  I figured Fall or Halloween.  So I pulled out the new Jar of Haunts stamp set – which coordinates so nicely with the Everyday Jars Framelits!

Jar of Cheer and Haunts - Stamps-N-Lingers
There are two stamp sets in the new 2016 Holiday Catalog that work wth Everyday Jars – cool, huh? 🙂

So – I used Jar of Haunts and some Halloween Nights DSP, and this is what I came up with.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Spooky Fun Halloween Treat!

Good morning!  Hope your Tuesday is looking like it’ll be a good one.  We’ve got the vet coming for the yearly shots and teeth exams and physicals for the horses.  They love when the vet comes.

Sure – and little kids love going to the doctor!  He uses lollipops (or – do they still do that or is everyone too afraid of sugar!?) and I use peppermints.  Yes – they can all be bought with peppermints.  I can call them up in the middle of the day and they’ll come a-runnin’.  Cuz my policy is to alwaysALWAYS – give them a peppermint when they come in.  And I give them a peppermint when they’re all done!

Mary Poppins used a spoonful of sugar – it’s the same idea!

Bribery is a valid form of persuasion! 🙂

For today’s project,  I decided this would be a good time for a Halloween card.  I don’t know why – I just did!  So I used a few new sets from the Holiday Catalog – Spooky Fun, Halloween Scares and the a la carte stamp called Halloween Treat – which is just the cutest image!

Halloween Treat - Stamps-N-Lingers
I combined all these sets with….some By The Shore DSP! I know – a bit unexpected, but…well, take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun!

Well, it’s Monday again, huh?  Sitting and watching the Olympic gymnasts while typing this on Sunday night – really quite amazing what those young ladies can do.  I mean, some of those back flips and double twister somersault twirly-doodles…crazy!  Impressive.  Hopefully they’re all drinking bottled water – and even brushing their teeth with it! Bleh…..

I think I just sprained my ankle watching Simone Biles do “The Biles” – a move so difficult and unique that they named it after her.  She’s remarkable!

And – now we’re seeing a Russian woman (yes, woman – she’s 41!!) who is competing in her SEVENTH Olympics!  Forty-one.  That’s unheard of.  That’s like…a 20 year old Thoroughbred running in the Breeder’s Cup.  That’s like… a 60 year old Quarterback in the NFL.  She’s got a kid the same age as the girls on the USA team.  Good on ya, Oksana Chusovitina!

Well, since I for sure can’t do any of those things they’re doing (at 16 – 41 – or….yea), let’s move swiftly to something I can at least sort of do – make cards!  This one is a Halloween card.  I used the Spooky Fun bundle and added a little Ghoulish Grunge! My sentiment is from Suite Seasons.  Take a look-see:

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
My layout for this one is inspired by the sketch challenge from CAS(E) This Sketch – #184:

CTS #184 Sketch
I started by SNAILing a piece of the Halloween Nights DSP to a Pumpkin Pie mat.

My central art is a Whisper White panel.  Using the spider web from Ghoulish Grunge, I stamped it twice in the top corners in Smoky Slate ink – stamping it off once before stamping the card.  Then I used the net (?) image and stamped it all over – also in stamped-off-once Smoky Slate.  Then I tore all the edges.

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I used a few images from Spooky Fun, stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink to mimic the players in the Suite Seasons sentiment I planned to use.  Bats for the Vampires, the witch and the ghosts!  Then I added the sentiment in Pumpkin Pie ink, and SNAILd the panel to the card front.

I pulled out the Halloween Scenes Edgelits Dies (the fence and the tree cut the card stock as edgelits – the remainder are framelits – and cut a Basic Black tree and a Smoky Slate fence.  For the decorations, I stamped the gravestones in Basic Black Archival Ink on Whisper White and the pumpkin trio in Tangerine Tango on Whisper White and cut them both with their matching framelits.

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I used Multi[Purpose Liquid Glue to layer on the pieces.  The tree hung over the edge, so I trimmed it with my snips.  I colored the pumpkins with my Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write Marker.  Then I added the little faces – with stamps also in Spooky Fun – and popped them on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Before I called it “done”, I stamped the Ghoulish Grunge spider web again – this time in straight Smoky Slate – letting it got clear to the edge of the card front.  I used my Smoky Slate Stampin’ Write Marker to fill in any gaps – and to “extend ” the web onto the Pumpkin Pie mat.   Then I added some silver star sequins with my Fine Tip Glue Pen – I had those leftover from the Tin of Tags kit I put together over the weekend.  You could for sure use the stars in the Metallic Sequins Assortment!

And that was it for the card front.

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers
On the inside, I stamped the Ghoulish Grunge web again in the top corner of a Whisper White panel, in stamped-off-once Smoky Slate.  I added a Basic Black bat that I’d cut with the Halloween Scenes Edgelits die.  And

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Down in the bottom, I added some more of the pumpkins – cuz why the heck wouldn’t I?!? – then I SNAIL it to a Pumpkin Pie mat and into my Basic Black card base.  I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a pumpkin boys again on the front…

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and more of the Halloween Nights DSP for a custom envelope flap.

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Voila!  Halloween hasn’t been my favorite of the holidays since I got to be too old to trick-or-treat (which has been a couple of years now)!  But I do really like this bundle – Spooky Fun and the Halloween Scenes Edgelits really are a lot of fun!  And Ghoulish Grunge.  Yet another background/texture stamp set – that’s so darned perfect for Halloween cards that it’s crazy!  I see many more cards between now and 31 Oct with this one. Hope you like! 🙂

Stampin’ Up! Sparkly Seasons Wish You a Happy Halloween!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Fall Back Icon

Well, today’s share almost didn’t happen!  Yesterday, in the middle of making my card – for Halloween! – we went out to feed the horses.  Our big guy – who’s 25 or so (that’s not ancient, but it’s getting up there pretty good), came in with a case of ADR (that’s scientific vet speak for Ain’t Doin’ Right).  He took about 2 bites of his dinner and then began to act – wrong.  It became clear pretty quickly that he was colicing.  Now, when a baby colics – it’s worrisome.  When a horse colics – it’s beyond worrisome.  Colic can – and has! – kill a horse.  And an old horse…well…let’s just say that it gets our attention really fast.

Long story short – after about 2 1/2 hours of walking, doctoring and talking to the vet (and hoping for some….poop!), we finally left him in his stall for the night.  Back in the house at around 9:15pm – still no card done.  But, I persevered – at least I knew what I was going to do.  And – it helped me to stay awake for the 11pm welfare check on the patient!

On a brighter note – when I got home from the grocery store yesterday afternoon, a satisfyingly heavy Stampin’ Up! box was at the gate!  I just love when those kinds of boxes arrive – don’t you?  This was my order that I placed during the 15% off sale!!  Also – on the very same day that 6 new stamp sets arrived – Publix had TWO more of the Ster-i-lite CD boxes!!  Timing is everything!

So – back to the card I made.  I used Sparkly Seasons and its bundled Seasonal Frame Thinlits, paired with some Happy Haunting DSP to bring you Happy Halloween wishes.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! An Easy Peasy Little Something Halloween Treat Bag

I’m taking the train.

I’m done with airplanes.

I’m a pilot.

I’m pretty afeared of riding on trains.

But, I’m taking the train.

On my flight home yesterday, a 757-200 (I tell you this so you can be forewarned) – I discovered there were no air vents overhead.  Called “gaspers” if you’re interested.  The little doodads that you can twist and direct to get cool air.

Gone.

Didn’t exist.  There was a reading light for each of us.  A Call button.  No gasper.  Even the Flight Attendant was surprised.

So – I alternately sweltered and froze.  For about 4 hours.  In the middle seat.

I’m taking my chances with a derailment.  Surely the odds of that are way lower than the odds of a miserable flight – which is pretty much 100%!

So there.  That’ll show ’em!  They’re gonna be so sorry when they lose my business.  Watch for the impending demise of the commercial airline industry! 😉

On to my share.  It’s a quickie today.  Another of the cute projects we made at the World Card Making Day Atlanta 2015.  This one goes together so quickly – you can knock a whole bunch out and move on with the remainder of your Halloween preparations!  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Happy Scenes Sparkly Seasons for Mojo Monday 419

Good morning from Arizona.  Where it’s planned to be….wait for it….102 degrees today.  In October.  Which is the “Fall”.  It’s just not okay.  Can’t wait to get home tomorrow where at least GA knows a little sumpin’ sumpin’ about Autumn.  We may not get it for very long – fingers crossed that this year we get more than last year! – but we get it.  Trees change color and fall off and everything.  And we get cold at night.  All harbingers of cool, lovely FALL!  Not so much here.  I am pretty sure I’ll never end up being a snow-bird.  Overnight lows of 83.

No.

So, I brought a little Autumn/October/Halloween with me.  Not literally!  Just in the form of a card.  I combined a bunch of sets – and every single one of them came as a money-saving bundle!! – Happy Scenes/Hearth & Home Thinlits, Sparkly Seasons/Seasonal Frame Thinlits, a little Among the Branches/Woodland TIEF… and I used a sort of unexpected DSP….Cherry on Top!  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Six Sayings FaBOOlous Mummy Princess!

Happy Hump-Day!  I saw a card similar to what I’m going to share today on that oracle of crafty inspiration – I speak, of course, of Pinterest!  It was an adorable mummy.  And I thought it was so cute that I wanted to do my own twist on it!  It’s blatantly Halloween-y (sorry I said Weeny on the internet – no offense intended!).  I used the wonderful Six Sayings Hostess set for the sentiment.  I’m on a bit of a kick with that one this week – the card you see on Thursday (for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop!!) uses the same set.  Different sentiment – which tells you how completely versatile this Holiday Catalog set really is.

Anyway – it seemed that all the mummies I see out there are boy mummies!  Which makes no sense at all and is blatantly sexist.  I’m pretty darned sure that princesses died and got themselves all mummified.  And I’m pretty sure that when they did – they wore their pretty stuff.  I mean, a girl’s gotta look good, right?  No matter the circumstances.  So….take a look-see:

Six Sayings Faboolous 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Yes, this Princess Mummy is even supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month! 🙂

Stampin’ Up! Mini Treat Bag Thinlit for Halloween – and WCMD!!

Happy Day-After-World-Card-Making-Day! 🙂 Hope you had some time to make cards in celebration.  Yesterday was wonderful at the WCMD 2015 Atlanta!  There were 100 card-making-geniuses (genius-i?) who attended at the Marriott up on the north end of Atlanta.  In spite of the rainy, gloomy day, spirits were high (there was a lot of “whoo-hoo!-ing”) and fun was had by every single person there.  Brian King and Pam Morris (and a bevy of folks to help them) did an awesome job putting on this day-long event!

Everyone started gathering up and finding their spot for the day.  There were old friends to see and new friends to make.  Got to meet folks whose blogs I follow – Mary Fish, Brian King, Amy Whelan….

WCMD 2015 Atlanta 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

My own upline, the uber-talented Amy Koenders was there with us – and there was an entire display board dedicated to her beautiful cards!  I pretty much told everyone that she was my “SU! Mom” (that’s what folks call their immediate upline – Grandma would be next up and so on). Lots of folks stopped to take pictures of all the beautiful projects on display.
