Happy Hump-Day! I saw a card similar to what I’m going to share today on that oracle of crafty inspiration – I speak, of course, of Pinterest! It was an adorable mummy. And I thought it was so cute that I wanted to do my own twist on it! It’s blatantly Halloween-y (sorry I said Weeny on the internet – no offense intended!). I used the wonderful Six Sayings Hostess set for the sentiment. I’m on a bit of a kick with that one this week – the card you see on Thursday (for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop!!) uses the same set. Different sentiment – which tells you how completely versatile this Holiday Catalog set really is.
Anyway – it seemed that all the mummies I see out there are boy mummies! Which makes no sense at all and is blatantly sexist. I’m pretty darned sure that princesses died and got themselves all mummified. And I’m pretty sure that when they did – they wore their pretty stuff. I mean, a girl’s gotta look good, right? No matter the circumstances. So….take a look-see:
Yes, this Princess Mummy is even supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month! 🙂
To begin, I used the horizontal lines and the large water splotches stamps from Gorgeous Grunge, and stamped those all over a panel of Basic Black Card Stock in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. You don’t really “see” it – but it adds some textures. Then I embossed the panel with the Brick Wall TIEF. I used my White Gel Pen to lightly highlight the “mortar” chinks – just to pull out some more of the texture. Then I SNAILd that to my Sahara Sand card base. Had to be Sahara Sand, didn’t it? Mummy? Desert?
Then I started on the Princess. I used a piece of Pink Piroutte card stock, cut to the size of a normal card front (4″ x 5 1/4″). I used the third-from-the largest (not counting the scalloped oval) die in the Ovals Collection, and I cut out little half moons from the long sides. To give her her girlish figure.
She’s wrapped in some Smoky Gray 5/8″ Chevron Ribbon – that I turned over to the plain side and then sponged (lightly and pretty haphazardly) with Pink Pirouette ink using a Sponge Dauber. I originanlly tried to just wrap the ribbon all the way around the card stock, but with her hourglass shape – that didn’t work very well. So, I ended up cutting various lengths of the ribbon and sticking it on with scotch tape on the back. I did all the wraps except the top left-most diagonal one. I left that until I put her eyes on.
Her eyes are two circles of Basic Black card stock. I added some highlights with the White Gel Pen (she’s a bit google-y eyed. You probably would be too if you’d been mummified!). She has eyelashes that I made with some rectangles of Basic Black, that I cut fringes in with my Paper Snips. I curled the lashes with my Bone Folder, dabbed some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue on the ends and then dipped them in my Silver Stampin’ Glitter. I hit them with the Heat Tool just to set the glue/glitter. I also snipped tiny tiny “relief” cuts in the bottom of the lashes, so that I could kind of curl them around the circles – and then adhered them with Liquid Glue.
I stuck the eyes on with Stampin’ Dimensionals – getting some of the lashes on the inside of the ribbon and some on the outside. Then I added the final diagonal ribbon wrap!
Her bling-y flower is 3 die cuts from the Flower Fair Framelits die set. I cut two from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper – and sponged them lightly with Pink Pirouette. The third is from a scrap of the sheet music design from Home for Christmas. I layered them up and stuck them together with an Antique Brad. I adhered it with a couple of Glue Dots and a little bit of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.
The Six Sayings sentiment is stamped in Archival Basic Black ink onto a piece of Pink Pirouette card stock. I cut it out with a Lots of Labels framelit. Then I adhered it with SNAIL to a piece of Basic Black and fussy cut a mat. I popped it on the card with Stampin’ DImensionals and added a length of Sahara Sand Lace Trim, just tied in a knot and adhered with Liquid Glue. And it got a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels.
Finally, I added her Breast Cancer Awareness pink ribbon using Melon Mambo 3/8″ Ribbon and an Iced Rhinestone – all adhered with Liquid Glue.
I popped my glam’d up Princess Mummy onto the card base with a combination of SNAIL and Stampin’ Dimensionals. And that was it for the front!
The inside is a piece of Very Vanilla, SNAILd to a piece of Basic Black. I added another little length of the Pink-Pirouette-sponged-ribbon and a few more Rhinestones. I adhered the ribbon with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue and then trimmed the ends with my Paper Snips.
This is a pretty bulky card – so I made a custon envelope and liner, using my Envelope Punch Board. I used Kraft Envelope Paper and a piece of Happy Haunting for the liner. I made both items according to the tutorial over on my Tutorials Page. Head over to see how I did it, okay? 🙂
I hope you like my little Mummy! I thought she turned out to be pretty cute – she’s held up pretty well over all these years, don’t you think?!?
