Stampin’ Up! Paradise Palms Rays of Light for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Good morning, y’all!  It’s Thursday – which means it’s time for another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop!  We’ve got a theme challenge to work with and I’m excited to see what everyone brings to the table – I just know you’re going to see a ton of awesome-ness on the hop today!

I pulled out one of my fave carrying-over (YEAH!!) stamp sets – the Paradise Palms with its bundled Palms Dies – and a new background stamp called Rays of Light – to create my tropical (okay – it’s Maui!) scene!  Take a look-see:

And here’s our challenge!

Notice it’s “CREATE” a scene – not “MAKE” a scene.  VERY different things! 😉

This card is a bit of a riff on the Triple Time card I made a couple days ago – it’s only got the two layers.

I placed the two pieces of Basic White cardstock into my Stamparatus – using a little repositionable tape runner to hold them in place on the Stamparatus and in their stack.  I set the Rays of Light stamp in place and picked it up with the acrylic plate.

Using Blending Brushes, I colored the whole image with Daffodil Delight ink and stamped.  I repeated that a few times until I got the depth of color that I wanted.  I added some Mango Melody and Calypso Coral in the same manner – both near the center of the “sun”.

Then I picked up the smaller panel and did a few stamps with the Daffodil Delight to bridge the gap between the two panels.

I replaced the small panel in the exact spot it was to start with.

I stamped the Paradise Palms trees in Tuxedo Black – stamping a few times to make them dark enough.  Near the bottom, I added the “ground” and grasses image, too.

Once again, I picked up the small panel and restamped the palm top and ground…here’s a “behind the curtain” look.  You can see the repositionable tape dots!

Then I stamped the Paradise Palms sentiment in Evening Evergreen on the small panel.

I matted both panels on Evening Evergreen using Liquid Glue, then popped the smaller panel back into place with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I cut a Basic Black and Evening Evergreen “grass” using the Palms Dies. The black die cut is adhered with Liquid Glue and the Evening Evergreen die cut with Black Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a few Daffodil Delight Glossy Dots and the card front was done.

On the inside, I used the Rays of Light set and the Stamparatus to add Daffodil Delight rays near the outer edge of a Basic White panel.  Then I stamped a second sentiment in Evening Evergreen on a Basic White panel.  In the corner, I added the three-palm image in Evening Evergreen.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to an Evening Evergreen mat and into my Daffodil Delight card base, popped the card front on with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Paradise Palms image in Evening Evergreen and some of the Rays of Light image in Daffodil Delight on the front…

…and the envelope flap got the trees and a third sentiment – plus a little blending with my almost-dry Daffodil Delight Blending Brush.

Et Voila! While this isn’t QUITE how the sunsets looked on Maui…the Rays of Light stamp is a really cool way to evoke the rays of sun – and I’ve shown you a few ways to use it, right?! Hint: with this (and most!) background stamps – the Stamparatus is your friend!  And Blending Brushes are a GREAT way to add different colors to the stamp.   I don’t think I need to wax eloquent about the Paradise Palms bundle – y’all KNOW how much I love it! 🙂

I hope you like!

  7. Susan K

Wowzers! Perfect use of that stamp and creating a gorgeous scene—outside and inside! Love it! TFS

  8. I do not have this background stamp and love what you did with it… Inspired to get it!

  9. GORGEOUS!! Love your scene, and I guess it could be Maui, or some other tropical island. Love the way you used the Rays of Light to create your scene. I saw that stamp in the catty, and dismissed it as one I would never use. HMMMM! May have to re-think that.

    • stampsnlingers

Right? It’s a sleeper! And it’s for sure Maui! 😉 Thanks, Julie! 🙂

  10. Wow! Love the card front with the layers and blended colors. And I like the effect you did on the inside just as much! Great card

  11. Hilda Burton

Wow, Mary! You created a very peaceful scene…I’m calling a sunrise. I love beautiful sunrises. Enjoy your day!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Hilda – and it could for sure be a sunrise!! 🙂

  12. Stephanie Atterbury
