Stampin’ Up! Cute & Clever Cats with Video Tutorial

Happy Sunday, my peeps!  I hope your weekend is going well and you’re either getting a lot done or relaxing and enjoying some down time!

So – if you were able to join me last night for my Facebook live, I sure appreciate you spending part of your weekend with me!  If not, but you’d like to watch the replay to see how to make this crazy cat card, here ’tis!

I am a cat person.  Yes – I am ALSO a dog person.  And a pony person.  But….cats hold my heart!  So when I saw this adorable Clever Cats set – with their perfectly cat-like expressions and their portly selves stuffed in a box…I was smitten!  I’m not even a Halloween person and I had to have it!  I also used the Cute Halloween DSP – so…see?  Just cuz it’s in the name doesn’t mean it’s ONLY for Halloween.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from the Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge.

And… yep.  The As You See It challenge was perfect!  CAT!

I started with two coordinating pieces of the Cute Halloween DSP – and matted them both on Highland Heather.

Using a die in the Encircled in Beauty Die set, I cut a “doily” from Black Glimmer Paper.  Using my Paper Trimmer, I cut it in half and adhered it to the card front (the larger matted panel of Cute Halloween DSP) with Liquid Glue.

I adhered the smaller matted panel of Cute Halloween DSP to the card front with Liquid Glue – covering the cut edges of the doilies.

I cut two lengths of Highland Heather Grosgrain Ribbon and, crossing them at the middle, adhered them to the card front with Liquid Glue.

Using my Stamparatus, I stamped the kitty-in-a-box image from Clever Cats in Tuxedo Black, then cut it with a label die from the Hippo & Friends die set.

I popped the cat onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment, from Clever Cats, is stamped in Flirty Flamingo on a narrow strip of Basic White.  I snipped banners in the ends with my scissors and popped it onto the card front with Dimensionals.

I stamped the box part of the Clever Cats image in Tuxedo Black on the dotted Cute Halloween DSP – fussy cut it – and popped it over the box on the stamped image.  This easy fussy cut gave a nice little bump of 3D depth to the card front!

I colored an Opal Round with my Dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blend and added it to the art panel – and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped a second Clever Cats sentiment in Flirty Flamingo on a Basic White panel and added the “peeking” cat image above it in Tuxedo Black.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Highland Heather mat and into my Flirty Flamingo card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the cat-in-the-box in Tuxedo Black on the front (I used my Stamparatus again) – I “filled” it in with Flirty Flamingo using the stamp image in Clever Cats

..and more of the dotted Cute Halloween DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Okay – seriously!?  How can ANYone not get a smile when they look at this Clever Cats fur-kid determined that HE DOES FIT in this box?!?  Someone on the video mentioned it would be awesome for a Christmas card – any cat staff-member has found their kitty in one box or another under the tree, right??  And I do hope you see that the Cute Halloween DSP is more than useful for occasions OTHER then Halloween – so is you aren’t a Halloween person, don’t write it off as “only for Halloween”.  But if you ARE a Halloween person…it’s got plenty of designs for that, too! 🙂

I hope you like!

If you’d like to recreate this card, all the products and card cuts you’ll need are down below.

Finn Fan Fix

Finn and his Dad helped me get the catalog Shares ready on Saturday morning.  We still missed the mail but we tried!

One of the little adhesive-strip cover doohickeys floated to the floor….

And Wayne asked Finn if he could get it for him.

That was a hard no.

ShepHERD.  Not ShepTRIEVE.

Sheesh.

  1. That was a fun video and fun card. I don’t know how you do all you do but I’m glad you have a good helper…but the slacker…well, he doesn’t have thumbs and his nose only picks up dimensional backers!

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – those are serious deficiencies when it comes to cutting and packaging paper, for sure! 🙂 Thanks so much, Karen! 🙂

  2. fondarush

I’m not a Halloween person either and had to have that stamp set! I love the expression on the cats’ faces. Maybe you can tell me: What is the piece of stamp that is right below the cat in the box shown on the stamp set. It’s an odd shape, and I can’t figure out what it’s for. Hopefully, you can help. Thanks in advance!

    • stampsnlingers

Hey! Yes – that odd looking shape is the “fill” for the box the kitty is stuffing himself into. It’s not an exact image – more artsy. The pink stamped image on the envelope flap is where it goes! Thanks – and have fun with this set! 🙂

  3. Sweet card! Love those crazy cat images! Yeah…no treat, no retrieve. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

Yup – it’s for sure a quid pro quo kinda deal!! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  4. I missed last night’s live and watched the replay. I love your card! This set is on it’s way to me and can’t wait to get it! I think it will be perfect for the older grand kids and any cat lover. Thanks for sharing! Have a great week!

    • stampsnlingers

Oh yes! It sure will be! Have fun with it, Pam! Thanks, Pam! 🙂

  5. Debbie

So cute! I love this image! We have a cat so I can relate! LOL
Thanks for playing along this week at Tuesday Morning Sketches

Right? The SU artists totally “got” this one! Thanks so much, Debbie! 🙂

  6. Fabulous card and love the cat on the envelope, too. I agree with you about Halloween papers. Many are not exclusively for Halloween. The black glittery die is gorgeous. And I like the ribbon placement. Thanks a bunch for sharing this with us at Tuesday Morning Sketches. Debi TMS DT

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Debi – appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

  7. Jan Clothier

What a great card! That cat is the star of the set. He reminds me of the cat in one of my children’s favourite books, Winnie the Witch. I like that you’ve showed off the ‘normal’ uses of the Halloween DSP. Thanks for sharing with us at As You see It Challenge.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Jan – appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

Mary, I’m a cat person, too, and yet I missed the potential of this Halloween set, just skipping over it because my customers are not usually into Halloween sets! My cats would totally do this, and it would be great for Christmas! Thanks for tuning me into it! And thanks for filling in the blank with us at As You See It Challenges!

    • stampsnlingers

I know – Halloween isn’t really my thing but…cats are – and THIS cat is just too cute not to play with! Thanks so much!! 🙂
