Stampin’ Up! Sea Life Seascape Box Card Fun Fold with Video Tutorial

Hey, y’all – how’s the week been?  It’s managed to rain nearly every day this week – some pretty heavy, too.  We had the shoer here on Wednesday and we were grateful for a covered aisle, concrete floor and a big ole fan to help us stay cool.  Cuz…rain + GA Summer Heat = SAUNA!! 👀👀👀

So – if you were able to join me yesterday for my YouTube live, I sure appreciate you spending part of your day with me!  If not, but you’d like to watch the replay to see how to make this fun-fold box card, here ’tis!

I’ve been seeing this Box Card around – several of my talented Critters-N-Creatin’ Team members have been posting them on our team FB page – and I figured…better late than never, right?!  So…I looked around and found a good tutorial from Dawn Griffin and then…made it my own with the Seascape stamp set and bundled Sea Life dies!  I used Beauty of the Earth DSP for my “ocean”.  Take a look-see:

And – I think this is a perfect depiction of summer (at least it’s mine!) so…I played along with the theme challenge over at The Paper Players!

The card base itself is a piece of Mango Melody cardstock, cut at 8 1/2″ x 10″.  Then it’s scored at 2″, 3 1/2″, 6 1/2″ and 8″ along the long side.  Then I turned it 90degrees and scored at 1 1/2″ and 7″ along the short side.

Then I cut along the score lines from the short edge to remove the outer rectangles.

Next, I made a mark at the 1 1/2″ point on the long edge (between the 3 1/2″ and 6 1/2″ score lines) and used my Paper Trimmer to score diagonal lines on bothe edges.

At this point, my cardstock looked like this.  Only…you know, in Mango Melody. 😉

Then I added Tear & Tape Adhesive to the outside of the small tabs, then trimmed the tabs down – making them shorter and angled.

At this point, I made the inside of the box.

I used a piece of Misty Moonlight paper from the Beauty of the Earth DSP and stamped a Seascape sentiment in Night of Navy in the middle.  Then I added the coral image in Granny Apple Green, some fish in Calypso Coral and some awesome bubbles in Misty Moonlight.  I love those bubbles!

I matted the panel on Granny Apple Green and adhered it to the inside of the yet-to-be-folded card base with Liquid Glue.

I folded and burnished all the scored lines and adhered the card together with the Tear & Tape – as shown in the video – gently pushing the top in, using the diagonal score lines to create the fold!

For the front, I cut another piece of the Beauty of the Earth DSP and stamped the coral and fishes and bubbles – then I cut it in half and adhered both pieces to Granny Apple Green mats and then to the front panels of the card.

I used the dies in the Sea Life die set to cut a seahorse and a coral from a piece of Rainbow Glimmer Paper and a second coral from a piece of Mango Melody Ombre Specialty Paper.

I created a belly-band with a narrow strip of Granny Apple Green that I wrapped sort of loosely around and secured at the front with Liquid Glue.

Then I used Liquid Glue to adhere the die cut seahorse and coral to the bellyband – being careful to NOT get any glue on the card front!

I stamped a second Seascape sentiment in Night of Navy on another piece of the same Beauty of the Earth DSP and added some Misty Moonlight bubbles.  Then I cut it with a die from the Hippo & Friends Die set.

I adhered the sentiment to the belly-band decorations with Liquid Glue.

I pulled out the Artistry Blooms Adhesive-Backed Sequins and added some to the sentiment and the card front – and to the inner liner, too – and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the coral, fishes and bubbles from Seascape on the front…

…and more of the Beauty of the Earth DSP – complete with bubbles! – on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Isn’t this such a fun…fold?  I love that it makes a little box – big enough for a gift card or some cold, hard cash! 😉  Box Cards have sort of been making the rounds on Facebook and Pinterest, so I hope you’re going to give it a go.  And if you do – I think this combination of Beauty of the Earth DSP and the Seascape bundle is a perfect decoration to make a cool underwater ocean scene!

I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

Well.  The Battle of the Mats was borne – and lost – on Wednesday.

He went pretty bravely – I mean, a ride’s a ride, right??

…but it went down the tubes pretty fast.

The mats were pretty much impervious to all our potions and combing and thinning.  We spa-day’d him for almost an hour and a half.

We were ALL over it at that point and so I let him get down and we dried him off.

In the end, he was squeaky, shiny clean.  The top of him looks all good and silky!

…and he’s as beautiful and handsome as ever…

…but when you pet him it’s abundantly clear that….the mats won.  Big time.

And – he’s a more convinced than ever that humans are goofy.  I mean….MOM gets all excited when it’s spa day – like she loves it or something!

He’s not seeing the appeal. 😉
