Hey, ya’ll – welcome to the week. I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to get after it again!
Before we get started – can someone tell me why I stayed up until almost midnight on Saturday night? If you know me, then you know that’s about 4 hours past my “sweet-spot bedtime”. I stayed up watching The Force Awakens. Which is fine. Except that…I’d recorded it. And – it’s been playing on every single Starz channel pretty much 24/7 since it opened up on Saturday. Which means I’ve now – on Sunday night – watched it approximately 700 times.
Or….maybe 10.
When I was younger – waaaaaay younger – one of my first driving excursions (without a parent in the car!) was to take my brother and I to see Star Wars.
The first one.
Which is really the fourth one…
And remains – for me – the best one!
It was my first introduction to Han Solo/Harrison Ford – thus starting a life-long crush. Luke Skywalker? Nah – Han’s the Man! And I saw him in it many more times after that. You know – when you had to go to a theater to see a movie? Drive? Park? Walk in and find a seat? No Redbox – no HBO….
And boy oh boy – (unlike – IMHO – Luke) he’s aged….beautifully.
(Caution – major spoiler alert coming next….skip to the card if you haven’t seen the movie and plan to!)

SPOILER–SPOILER–SPOILER–SPOILER–SPOILER–SPOILER–SPOILER–SPOILER–SPOILER–SPOILER
************************************************************************************************************************
For each of the 700 times I watched the movie this weekend, I yelled bad bad words at Kylo Ren when he…..killed/murdered/assasinated….Han.
When I watched it in the theater, I just sat in stunned and horrified silence.
I don’t think this’ll be like the great carbomite freezing incident of Empire. It’ll be tough to bring him back from a light-saber thru the heart.
Star Wars will never be the same for me…. 🙁 🙁 🙁
So I made a sympathy card for myself. 😉
Actually, it’s another request card, but…I’m not sure it’s going to answer the mail. She asked for no flowers, mentioned the swing in Sitting Here. But…I didn’t want to do that for you again so quick. And I was afraid I’d end up making yesterday’s card again today – whether I meant to or not!
I decided to go with one of the pretty silhouette images in Artistically Asian, paired up with some Paisleys & Posies images. And sentiments from Better Together. Take a look-see:
Looks pretty plain, doesn’t it? Squint a little – there’s some Paisleys & Posies stamped in the sentiment panel. We’ll get to that later!
My design hails from the Sept 2016 Viva La Verve sketch 1:
And my color scheme is from The Paper Players #312:
I started by SNAILing a Cajun Craze design paper from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty DSP to a Crushed Curry mat. And I matted a piece of Very Vanilla on Crushed Curry, too, for the center sentiment panel.
My art is from the Artistically Asian stamp set – in the Annual Catalog – I stamped it on a square of Cajun Craze in Versamark ink, then heat embossed it in Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I cropped the corners with the Project Life Corner Punch. Then I matted it on a Crushed Curry square – I rounded the corners of the mat with the Envelope Punch Board corner punch.
For my sentiment, I first stamped the Better Together “front” sentiment in Pear Pizzazz on my matted Very Vanilla panel. Then I used the large image from the Paisleys & Posies stamp set and stamped all over the panel with my Versamark.
Can you see it? Squint hard – use the “bite the tongue” technique if you need to! 🙂
I SNAILd the sentiment panel to the card front, and then wrapped a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon around the whole thing, securing it in the back with scotch tape. I popped the Artistically Asian panel over the top with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The final touch was to add three Pear Pizzazz Enamel Shapes to the Burlap Ribbon. And that was it for the card front.
On the inside, I repeated the mat layers – and added the “inside” sentiment (Better Together has coordinated front and inside sentiments for different occasions – very handy!) in Pear Pizzazz. I also repeated my Versamark stamping of the Paisleys & Posies image all over that panel. I SNAILd it to Crushed Curry and then onto the matted Petals & Paisleys DSP.
I SNAILd it into my Pear Pizzazz card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!
On my Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, I stamped the Artistically Asian image on the front in Cajun Craze. I stamped it off once and used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to align it. I ended up not getting a good image on my first go, so I stamped it again without re-inking…
…and used some more of my Petals & Paisleys DSP to gussy up the envelope flap.
Et Voila! This is a little less embellished card than I’m used to doing. But I think it turned out okay – Artistically Asian is a great set, full of beautiful images. And Better Together is a seriously useful sentiment stamp set! Hope you like!

Lol! The first Stars Wars (really the 4th) is still my favorite too – we saw it for the 3rd time – on our honeymoon nearly 39 yrs. ago! How time flies! Your card today is beautiful – I love the whisper of a background that you created with the Paisleys and Posies stamp – lovely! Thanks for the trip down memory lane and the wonderful inspiration!! Have a great week – it’s much cooler here in Ohio- windows open!
Thanks – and you’re welcome! And yes, time surely does fly! 🙂
Yes, I agree the first Star Wars movie in the theaters, is my favorite! It almost killed me to wait years for the next one after Han Solo was frozen! And, it will not be the same without him, I agree! Well, on to your lovely card-very nice, and perfect for a sympathy card!
I’m mad at Harrison Ford. 🙁 Thanks, Jari! 🙂
How quickly we forget.
Very nice card. Handsomely fills the no flowers request. For some reason, I really like the checked border…probably because it is “almost” plaid!?! Anyone with a houndstooth anything surely has a bit of plaid somewhere too.
You’ll get some of that design in your catalog share! Thanks, Mom! 🙂
So pretty! Love the clean design and minimal embellishments. Perfect for a sympathy card!
As for Star Wars…apparently I was too old when I tried to watch that series for the first time (I was in my mid-20’s when my husband attempted to introduce me to it). And much to my husband’s dismay…I don’t get it, never have and never will. Glad that you can watch them and like them! 🙂
As I feared, it didn’t answer the mail. Really wants the Sitting Her swing, so…expect to see another card using it soon! 🙂 You don’t get Star Wars. I am…speechless. I’ll still be your friend, cuz I like ya, but… hmmm. 😉 Thanks much, Amy! 🙂
Lovely card! I love to read your stories and I will sympathize with you. I, too, saw the very first Star Wars in the 70’s. I remember everyone leaving the theater with the same expression of awe. It was truly one of the first special effect movies. Harrison Ford is still one of my favorite actors. I watch all of the Star Wars movies as my adult children are big fans.
Thanks, Twila! Glad you like it and enjoy my ramblings! 😊 😊
What a striking layout! I am not usually drawn to Asian images, but this works perfectly with the colors! Thanks for playing with the Players this week and making my colors look great!
Thanks so much, LeAnne! Great color combo – I might never have used Pear Pizzazz with these colors without your challenge. Thanks!😊
Such a soft and pretty card. Thanks for joining us for Viva la Verve!
Thanks! 🙂
