Stampin’ Up! Rock & Roll Rock Star Joy Fold Card with Video Tutorial

Good morning and Happy Friday!  I hope y’all are staying warm and have warm plans for the weekend!  Finny and I are staying close to home, I think.  HE might (definitely!!) want to go somewhere but…it’s too stinkin’ cold for ME to want to go, so…since I’m his driver…🤷‍♀️😂

My card today is a super easy fun fold – it’s called a Joy Fold and it’s really great for showing off beautiful – or fun! – DSP.  Like…for example, the Rock & Roll DSP on this one!  And I added a few fun elements from the coordinating Rock Star bundle.  And…lightning bolts!  Take a look-see:

This was my card for this week’s Creative Creases Challenge – all fun folds all the time!  I hope you’ll come and join us!

And I played along with The Paper Players this week (the Rock & Roll DSP was PERFECT!).

I started with two card bases – a large and a small – both in Basic Black.  The first,
4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ – I scored and folded at 5″.  The small base is 3″ x 8″ and is scored and folded at 4″.

Tip: the only “hard” part about a joy fold card is making sure you decorate the small card base with the fold on the RIGHT side – not the left!  Keep that in mind and you’ll be golden! 🤙

I matted two pieces of Rock & Roll DSP on Tahitian Tide cardstock and adhered them to the front and back panels of the large card base using Liquid Glue.

I stamped the guitar image from the Rock Star stamp set in stamped-off-once Smoky Slate in the corner of a small Basic White panel.

I matted it on Fresh Freesia and then used Liquid Glue to adhere the matted panel to the inside of the small card base – with the fold on the right as I looked at it!

Using Liquid Glue on the back of the small card base, I adhered it to the middle of the back panel of the larger card.  Tip – just center it on that back panel – it’ll be right where it needs to be!

To make the front of the small card base, I cut a guitar-strewn piece of the Rock & Roll DSP and colored the guitars with my Fresh Freesia and Tahitian Tide Stampin’ Blends.

I matted the panel on Fresh Freesia cardstock and then adhered it to the front of the small card base.

Using the die from the Rock Star die set, I cut out a big guitar pick from a piece of Rock & Roll DSP and adhered it with Liquid Glue.

I stamped the guitar from the set in Tuxedo Black on Basic White and cut it out with its coordinating Rock Star die.  I colored it with the Fresh Freesia and Tahitian Tide Blends and adhered it with Liquid Glue.

I stamped the sentiment in Tahitian Tide on the marble-look paper from the Rock & Roll DSP and cut it out with the matching Rock Star die.

I popped the sentiment on with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals – added some Crushed Curry Adhesive-backed Lightning & Stars and…the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Rock Star guitar in Smoky Slate ink on the front…

…and some more of the Rock & Roll DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  The Joy Fold is one of my “go-to” fun folds – it’s super easy and super pretty!  And gives you a lot of real estate for playing with fun DSP like the Rock & Roll DSP used here!  I think the Rock Star stamp set – and the bundled dies! – are so fun.  And – I don’t think it’s ONLY for cards for folks who are “musical”!

Finn Fan Fix

Winter has hit.

I don’t like winter.  I mean – if I could hunker in the house all day with a cup of hot chocolate and a book….maybe!

But – there’s THESE two characters!  THEY love sub-twenty-degree weather! And they like to eat regular and go outside, too!

So – this is winter.

Every.  Stinkin’.  Day.  And worse – it doesn’t STAY un-frozen during the day (let alone the night!). So My Little Pony can’t get a drink after about an hour.  😢

Inside….best thing every invented.  Heated water bucket!

Yesterday – after breaking ice again – my brain finally – FINALLY! – kicked in and I remembered that I have a SECOND heated bucket AND an outdoor, heavy gauge extension cord.

Boom!  Put THAT in yer pipe and smoke it, Winter!

Such a fun card! Love the colors! And you just need to grow a few extra layers of fur and you’d be fine outside too! 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

I know! I’m going to get right on that. Might take me a FEW winters so get a good one going! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  2. Angie

Or they have this invention – available on Amazon.

KNEOYR 500W De-icer Submergible Bird Bath Heater Aluminum Cast for Livestock Poultry Horses, Cows, Birds, Wildlife Drinking Indoor Outdoors in Winter with 10 Foot Cord Birdbath Water Heater

    • stampsnlingers

Oh yeah – we have those, too. But – the bucket was WAY easier to put up and get plugged in! AND – she won’t mess with it…horses (and ponies in particular) are…meddlers.😂 Thanks, Angie! 🙂

  3. JudiH

YOU are a card making Rock Star🤩 love this card! I know it’s freezing outside but Oh That Pony Face 🥰 I would be bundled up nuzzling her all the day long….and I would stop to pat the Finnmeister too 😉

    • stampsnlingers

She’s a sweetie, for sure. She’s not QUITE as good with nose kisses as her mama was, but…she does a solid job! Thanks, Judi! 🙂

  4. Not my type of card, but it has its place. Your use of the Tahitian Tide and Fresh Freesia with the black is just perfect. Love a fun fold.

    • stampsnlingers

It’s a little outside my comfort zone, too – but I liked how the blues and purples worked!! Thanks! 🙂

Mary, the Rock & Roll products are a perfect choice for our Paper Players color challenge this week. You certainly ‘rocked” it. Great guy card. Thanks for joining us this round. Cheers, Jolanda – DT Guest

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Jolanda – and I DO see what you did there! ;).

  6. Faith Simpson

It was fun to watch that card come together…love those prettily colored guitars.
Guess its a good thing that the pony loves winter….since she can’t come in the house!! I’m not a fan of winter either…and we have a lot left (sigh).

  7. Debbie Mageed

Wow, Mary, what a great fun fold card! Wouldn’t it be perfect for a young guy? My older son would have loved this one. Details are perfect, down to the lightning rods! Have a wonderful weekend – hope we warm up soon!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Debbie – and I’ll second that – I’m already tired of winter and we just got started! 🙂

  8. Rock on with this fresh and fun card, Mary! Love the fun pop of color. Thanks so much for joining us this week over at The Paper Players!

  9. Fun card Mary. Love the colors. Speaking of colors… coloring the DSP to match the stamped image is genius! Thank you for sharing.
