Good morning and Happy Sunday from soggy Georgia! We’re for sure in the Monsoon season here in the south. Like…torrential rains – and then SAUNA! Yikes! We took all the paper shares to the post office this morning in a total downpour – but…they’re in the mail! And – WE were wet but THEY were NOT! Whoo-hoo!!

Now, my card today doesn’t use any DSP from the Jul – Dec 2022 Mini. Instead – it gets all its fun from…the Candy Canes dies from the mini and the totally-a-flyover stand-alone die set called Rugged Icons from the Annual Catalog! The wonderful workhorse Charming Sentiments bundle provides the sentiment and – on the inside – go camping in the woods with the Campology set. Take a look-see:

And – I did a video on how to make this card – it’s NOT hard (I promise!!) – I’ll stipulate to “persnickety” – but not hard. Which you saw last night if you were able to watch me live or CAN see for yourself if you watch the replay on my YouTube channel!
I started by cutting two 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″ pieces of Starry Sky cardstock with the big stripey die in the new Candy Canes die set. This die is the same size as the card front (well – the size that I normally use!) – so it works perfectly!
Then, using Liquid Glue, I adhered one of the die cuts UPSIDE DOWN onto a Starry Sky mat. That means that the CUT side is down – so the BACK of the die cut is up. Then I adhered the second die cut over top – with Liquid Glue – with that one right-side-up. That put the stripes going in opposite directions – and created a cool tone-on-tone plaid look!
From a piece of Soft Suede cardstock, I cut the fly-rod die from the Rugged Icons die set and adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue. I used the die again to cut out a fish from the lightest end of a piece of Parakeet Party paper from the 2022-2024 In Color Glimmer Paper. I stuck the shimmery fish in place with Liquid Glue.
Okay – you ready!? I cut out a 2 1/8″ circle of Starry Sky cardstock using a Circles Layering Die.
From a piece of Soft Suede – I cut the round mountain scene die from Rugged Icons. TIP: leave the die cut ON the acrylic cutting plate. When you pick it up – try to get all the little tiny pieces in the mountain part of the scene to STAY with the part you’re picking up. If they come loose – that’s okay – just leave them in place on the acrylic plate. That way you can pick them up with your twizzers or a Take Your Pick Tool and then adhere them in place.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the Soft Suede die cut to the Starry Sky circle.
I used the die again to cut more shapes from the cardstock colors needed for the paper piecing.
Using Liquid Glue, I adhered the various pieces into place on the circle. For the Mossy Meadow trees, I first snipped them free of their full die cut so that I could adhere them over the top of the Soft Suede trees. Take a gander at the video and you’ll see what I mean! 🙂
With all the pieces adhered in place, I popped the image onto the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I stamped the sentiment from Charming Sentiments in Versamark Ink on a piece of Soft Suede cardstock, sprinkled it with white Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool. When the embossing powder had cooled, I cut it out with its coordinating die in the bundled Sentiment Silhouettes and adhered it with Liquid Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals.
A few Rustic Metallic Adhesive-backed Shapes finished off the card front! See? Told ya. Persnickety? Maybe a smidge. Hard? No!
On the inside, I turned to the Campology stamp set for a simple sentiment in Soft Suede and (using my Stamparatus!) some Mossy Meadow trees on a Basic White panel.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Starry Sky mat and into my Soft Suede card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!
My Basic White Medium Envelope got more of the Campology trees in Mossy Meadow on the front…
…and a little Starry Sky 2022-2024 In Color 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.
Et Voila! I know, I know. You totally missed the Rugged Icons dies in the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog, didn’t you?!? Not being associated with a stamp set makes it easy to overlook them – but…I hope this card inspired you to give them a second look! AND – I hope it helps you see that the Candy Canes Die set might be pretty cool for NON-Christmas/Holiday cards!! I like the simple outdoorsy vibe from the Campology set too – and it’s a super nice complement to the Rugged Icons die cuts! And – I’m pretty sure you didn’t need any convincing about the Charming Sentiments bundle – it’s kind of a no-brainer! 🙂
