Good morning, y’all! It’s Thursday – which means it’s time for another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop!! We’ve got a sketch challenge to work with and I’m excited to see what everyone brings to the table! I just know you’re going to see a ton of awesome-ness on the hop today!
I saw a fun theme challenge this week, to go with our sketch, so I pulled out the cute Penguin Place bundle, some (FREE!!) Penguin Playmates DSP and the Sparkle of the Season bundle to make you a penguin-themed Christmas card. Take a look-see:
And here’s the sketch challenge we were working with this week.
I thought this looked like such a fun challenge when I saw the banner at the Inspired By challenge!
I started by matting two pieces of Penguin Playmates DSP – which you can get for FREE (this month only during Sale-A-Bration!) with a $50+ purchase before shipping & tax) on Fresh Freesia. One for the card front and a smaller panel, which I adhered to the card front with Liquid Glue.
I used the pine wreath die in the Seasonal Swirls die set (bundled with the Sparkle of the Season stamp set) to cut a Soft Sea Foam and a Misty Moonlight wreath. These are adhered to the card front with Liquid Glue.
I stamped the pine bough image from Sparkle of the Season several times in Just Jade on Soft Sea Foam cardstock and cut them with the matching Seasonal Swirls die. Then I adhered them to the wreath with Liquid Glue.
I stamped the Penguin Place penguin in Tuxedo Black on Soft Sea Foam and punched it with the bundled Penguin Builder Punch. Since that meant his belly was green instead of white (fail!) – I used the second punch to punch a Basic White “middle”.
I stamped the white body with Tuxedo Black eyes, Mango Melody feet and beak and a Fresh Freesia scarf (all these are images in the Penguin Place stamp set) and popped it over the first – larger – punched shape with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I stamped a Fresh Freesia cap on Basic White, fussy cut it and adhered it to the penguin’s noggin with Liquid Glue.
I tied a small silver bow using twine from the Simply Elegant Trim pack and adhered it with a Glue Dot.
Then I popped the penguin over the bow with some double-stacked Dimensionals.
I stamped the Sparkle of the Season sentiment in Misty Moonlight on a narrow strip of Basic White. Then I scored two lines at each end so I could fold it into a banner – and snipped the ends.
I used Liquid Glue on each end and a double-stack of Dimensionals in the middle to adhere the sentiment to the card front.
I added some Highland Heather Cute Stars Adhesive-Backed Sequins – one on his cap, one on the sentiment and a few scattered on the wreath – and the card front was done!
My Basic White inner liner got another Penguin Place penguin in the bottom corner and added a few Just Jade pine boughs from Sparkle of the Season. His little cap got a Highland Heather star sequin, too!
I used Stampin’ Seal to adhere the panel to a Fresh Freesia mat and into my Misty Moonlight card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.
My Basic White Medium Envelope got the penguin and pine boughs on the front…
…and more of the Penguin Playmates DSP on the envelope flap.
Et Voila! These little Penguin Place people are so stinkin’ cute – and I love that it’s a punch bundle (which – OBTW! – you COULD pick for FREE when you join the Stampin’ Up! team during Sale-A-Bration!), don’t you? And I love the color combo in the FREE Penguin Playmates DSP. Sparkle of the Season bundle is perfect for a Christmas wreath – but…you can ALSO use if for Fall and Halloween cards!! Handy! 🙂
I hope you like!
