Stampin’ Up! Beauty & Joy Thankful Card

Good morning, y’all! Yes – it’s Hawwmp Day.

But – more importantly – it’s September 11.

Please take some time today to REMEMBER.  We must never ever forget, my friends.  Take a few minutes of silence – particularly at the times the aircraft hit the buildings – 8:46….9:03….9:37…and 10:03.  Think back to where you were – think of the days afterward and the eerie silence of the skies.  Of watching the television in horror and…disbelief.  Of feeling insecure within the borders of our country.

Never.  Forget.

Okay – now.  On to less weighty subjects…

So – my card today is a fun one that uses the baby wipe technique!  I used it to create a Fall-themed Thank You card – or a Thanksgiving card – with the Beauty & Joy stamp set and some Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one – and the colors and theme! – are from this week’s FUSION challenge.  I used both sides!

I started with a piece of Crumb Cake card stock that I embossed in the new Stylish Scroll Embossing Folder.  I cut it down to size and used a sponge to brush Celestial Copper Delicata Ink over the raised areas.  Then I matted it on Mossy Meadow for the card front!

The center DSP panel is a piece of Mossy Meadow and Copper foil paper from the Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP, matted on Mossy Meadow and adhered to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I pulled out a Baby Wipe and laid it out on my Silicone Craft Sheet.  Then I used Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry and Mango Melody Re-Inkers to drop color onto the wipe – which I then used as an “ink pad”. 🙂

I inked the leaves image from Beauty & Joy with the Baby Wipe “pad” and stamped it on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  I added the “trunk” image in Soft Suede and the pot in Crumb Cake.  Then I cut it with a Stitched Label die.

I popped the art onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped some more leaves on another piece of Very Vanilla and fussy cut a few of them – then I adhered them in a little “pile” at the base of the pot with a little Liquid Glue.

Using a length of Cajun Craze Linen Thread (from the Come to Gather Ribbon Combo Pack) and a length of Linen Thread – I tied a simple bow and adhered it to the art panel with a little Liquid Glue.

I stamped the Beauty & Joy sentiment in Mossy Meadow on Very Vanilla and cut it with the Classic Label Punch – then popped it onto the card front with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a Star Designer Element to the sentiment and the card front was done!

On the inside, I repeated the Fall leaves across the bottom of a Very Vanilla panel.  Tip:  be sure to clean off your stamp between each ink/stamp step.  Otherwise, the colors will get all muddied up.  And no one has time for muddy leaves! 😉  I added a few Star Designer Elements, too.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Mossy Meadow mat and into my Mango Melody card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got more Beauty & Joy Fall leaves across the front…

… and I added some more of the pretty Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP to the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  This Beauty & Joy stamp set is – in my opinion! – one of the 2019 Holiday Catalog’s “fly-over” sets.   Easy to overlook and dismiss.  But…it’s so pretty – and versatile – with images and sentiments for Fall/Thanksgiving and Christmas!  With the Christmas Gleaming Specialty DSP – in Mossy Meadow, not the expected Night of Navy or Pretty Peacock! – it’s a perfect card for the season!  I hope you like!

  1. We were less than 400 miles from the horror unfolding on my mother’s TV. Our son and his wife had just come up from Huntsville, AL, the day before. It was a horrific experience for all of us. My sister and her husband were supposed to fly home from Vegas that day. Yes, it is a day and time we will never forget. Perry and I were able to participate in carrying the flag that flew over the capitol in Florida up to the Pentagon and Ground Zero the next year with over 500 Corvettes converging from other states as far as the west coast. It was an awesome trip that began June 14 and ended July 2. We met so many wonderful people from Georgia and stayed in Suwanee. Every place we stopped, we picked up another flag carrying car, along with other Corvettes. The flag carriers we traveled with from Georgia, Virginia and Maryland are still tight. The BQE was closed for the Corvettes and we had police escorts to Ground Zero. It was a very humbling, emotional experience to see the site That night we met survivors, surviving spouses, rescuers, and rescue dogs. The memories live on. Now on to lighter things…i LOVE your card (so what’s new!) and hope you are successful in the challenge. I hope THE DOG got a chip … or two! and thank you for letting me share a tad of my story.

Oh Karen – this sounds like a wonderful way to pay tribute and respect. I am so glad you and Perry were able to participate. And I’m so glad you shared the story – I was hoping people WOULD share their stories! And – yes. The dog most assuredly got a chip. Was there really any doubt!?? 😉

    • Lovely story Karen. And, a great memory of Perry for you,

  2. What a beautiful fall card! The colors are perfect and so is your design. So…did he ever get the chip??? 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

What do you think?! Of COURSE he got a chip! Cuz he’s rotten! 😉 Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  3. Faith Simpson

    Hi Mary,
Thank you for this post today…..I always enjoy your posts, but this is an important day, and I appreciate the things you said. We will always have deep sadness over the events of this day and must never, ever forget.
Your CARD too, is beautiful…..I’ve been thinking about that stamp set. You always make me want what you demonstrate (smile).
    And last….but certainly not least…….PLEASE see that Finn gets a chip….or two…..
    Faith

Thank you, Faith – I hoped no one would mind me taking a minute to reflect. Appreciate your kind words about the card, too! And – of COURSE Finn got a chip. It’s WHY he always asks. Cuz he ALWAYS gets a chip! 🙂

  4. Gorgeous card for fall – so elegant and perfect colors. I always think about what a perfect fall day it was when that horrible tragedy happened…..never forget….

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – it was. We were in Albuquerque, NM – and it was gorgeous. Until it wasn’t. As you say – we must NOT forget. Thanks, Linda! 🙂

  5. I don’t know what happened to my comment yesterday, but I haven’t seen it here. We will never forget that day, though I don’t have a great story to tell like Karen did. Our local FD put out their ladder truck with a sign ‘We will never forget’ and a HUGE American flag flying from the top of the extended ladder. Beautiful sight!
Darrell Worley’s video is a tear jerker. Beautiful, Thanks for including it. And, the dog. Of course he will get a chip. We had a Husky who could look the same way when she wanted a chip, only she wanted dip on it! Talk about spoiled! Your captioning is perfect!
BTW, your card is simply gorgeous. I had been looking and looking at that set, trying to decide whether i really needed it or not. Your card tipped the scales. I ordered it yesterday.
Maybe this time it will actually post.

It’s there, Julie – just took me a minute to get it approved. I, too, enjoyed reading Karen’s story – sounded like a wonderful tribute. As does the effort made by your city. Our country needs to return to the patriotism of 12-13 Sep 2001. Thanks so much! 🙂
