Stampin’ Up! Fairy Celebrates a Birthday with Paint Play

Well.  It’s Friday.  As I type this on Thursday, we’re busy executing the “Mill Around Checklist”.  Which is aviator for “hurry up and wait”.  I thought I was done with that like…11 years ago!

Apparently not.

Waiting for someone to make a decision.

Guess who that someone is NOT?

Yup.

Your friendly, neighborhood SU! demonstrator.

Cuz…if it was her/me – the decision would have been made hours ago and we’d be doing something!!!

Sheesh.

Okay.  Rant over.

Thank you for listening.

My card today is a super cute one (she says modestly), using the new Fairy Celebration and Paint Play stamp sets.  I used them to make a birthday card suitable for a little girl human – or a little-girl-at-heart human!  Take a look-see:

My layout was inspired by the sketch challenge over at My Favorite Things – but it’s already closed!

I selected my color palette from the Fab Friday color challenge this week:

And the Global Design Project challenge helped me decide to use the Fairy Celebration stamp set!

I started by heat embossing the fun little fairy image from Fairy Celebration in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  Then I cut it out with a Stitched Shapes Framelits circle die.  Using my Stampin’ Trimmer, I sliced a little off the bottom.  I matted it on a piece of Silver Foil that I cut with a scalloped-edge circle die in the Circles Layering Framelits.

Then I used my flat-bottom art piece to give me an idea where to stamp the fun images from the new Paint Play stamp set.  I used the colors of the challenge – Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist and Bermuda Bay – for this part.  I popped the art over top with Stampin’ Dimensionals and used my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to paint my fairy and her cherries (I used the Glitter Brush to pick up ink from the lid of my ink pads)!  I used Berry Burst for her wings, Daffodil Delight on her hair, Tangerine Tango for her top and Bermuda Bay for her skirt.  The cherries and leaves are Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist!

The sentiment, from Fairy Celebration, is stamped in Bermuda Bay on a strip of Whisper White.  I snipped a banner in the end and used a little Liquid Glue to adhere it to a similarly cut mat of Silver Foil.  Then I used a Dimensional and Liquid Glue to adhere it to the card.

I wrapped a length of Berry Burst 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon around the card front, securing it in back with scotch tape, and tied a “faux bow” with a second, shorter, piece of ribbon.

A fewBerry Burst Glitter Enamel Dots on the sentiment banner and in the flower centers finished off the front of the card.

On the inside, I stamped some more flowers from Paint Play in the challenge colors and added another sentiment from Fairy Celebration in Bermuda Bay to a Whisper White panel.  Using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig (and rubbing first with my Embossing Buddy), I stamped a second fairy image in Versamark, and heat embossed her in Gold.  Then I used my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush again to color her in in Tangerine Tango, Berry Burst and Daffodil Delight (her hair).  As a finishing touch, I added some Glitter Enamel Dots (Crushed Curry and Berry Burst) to the flower centers.

I SNAILd the panel to a Silver Foil mat and into my Daffodil Delight card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got some more Paint Play flowers across the front (I used my Berry Burst Stampin’ Write Marker to color in the flower centers)…

…and then I added even more to the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  Cute cute stamp sets… Fairy Celebration is perfect for making a little girl’s birthday wishes come true!  And I love the Paint Play – the images look like they’ve been hand drawn with a crayon or big marker!  I hope you like and will consider adding them to your tool chest!

Super cute card! I love that you combined silver and gold – great effect! Hope they’ve made a decision by now – one can only twiddle thumbs so long lol! Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Adorable card, love the fairy and the super interpretation for the sketch.
Sorry your stay here in Florida has not been one to enjoy, but you have been able to do some important essential things, (stamp and use some new stuff).
Enjoy visiting via your blog, Have a safe and enjoyable week-end.

    • Thank you so much, Seletta! It’s just been a trip a bit fraught with problems. Thank goodness I had my stamping stuff with me!! 😊😊

  4. Cute card for the little girl in everyone of us. I was tempted to try that color challenge as those are colors difficult for me to use. You did them very well.

  5. Kate

I love those little fairy folk cards. You really do capture the magic
Fie on the mill-around check list. Only thing harder than one’s own decision-making dilemma is watching someone else’s unfold…or not. Must have given rise to “patience is a virtue”. Equally difficult.
    😕

  6. Verna

Your creations are so wonderful!! I love the inside and the envelope as much as the cards. I hope people that receive them never throw them away and appreciate the time and effort you put into them.

  7. Mindy Backes

Very pretty! You’ve managed to make our bold colors look a little soft and subtle here, great job! Thanks for playing at Fab Friday!

  8. Oh, this is so pretty! And really pretty for anyone-especially the young at heart! Love it, Mary!

  9. Sandra Warthen

Please believe me when I say I totally know how you feel having to wait on someone else to make a decision!

  10. I would never have thought of this sweet little sprite in our colors – what a beautiful effect it gives! That ring of bright flowers really completes the scene – thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!

  11. So stinkin’ cute! Love all the little details in this one! Great job, Mary!

  12. So sweet! Love your little fairies, perfect colors and design ! Bummer on the hurry up and wait business…hope that you can hurry up and get out of there! 🙂

  13. Susan K

Super duper cute card! I suspect you made this before the waiting-around time–this is a calm and relaxing card. You muted those bright colors well–they’re not vibrant and frustrated. Oops, maybe I’m projecting how I’d feel! 😏 Love the card and hope you don’t leave any of your stamp sets behind in your haste to get home! The environment hasn’t hurt your creativity any!

    • LOL – thanks, Susan! You’re exactly right. This one was made before the thumb twiddling got going full speed! Thanks so much – and I’ll be taking a very careful look to be sure I don’t leave anything behind! 🙂

  14. So cute! I love that you embossed the fairy in gold…that really makes her a bit magical! Fun layout and I like the flowers peeking out from behind the circle panel; reminds me of a fun summer wreath. THanks for sharing at Fab Friday!
