The Happy Stamper Ladies-Who-Hop have gathered their projects to share with you this week.  We all very much appreciate that you take the time out of your pre-Holiday hair-on-fire busy-ness to browse our creative efforts.  Thanks so much!

Here’s our design inspiration – this week was a color challenge!  We were to use Night of Navy, Soft Sky and Silver.  Well – I had two out of three here in Arizona – so my share uses Pool Party instead of Soft Sky.  Bad planning, I guess! 🙁

For my card, I did something that – quite frankly – I’m ashamed to confess I hadn’t even thought about doing.  Until one of the ladies in our group made a card where she did this cool thing.  That I’m now going to kind-of-CASE.  Since I didn’t think of it my own self, I feel obligated to surrender my Official Horse Person club membership card.  I simply Can.  NOT.  Believe.  I. Didn’t. Think. Of. It. First.

Take a look-see and I think you’ll catch my drift.  And agree with my dis-barment.

See it?  Yes.  There that are.  Horses.  Lots of them.  Where did they come from, you ask?  Well, obviously, from somewhere to the left of the edge of the card.

Duh!

No – seriously.  They’re the pretty little ponies pulling the sleigh die cut from the Sleigh Ride Edgelits set.  I ran the die thru the Big Shot 6 times with the die cutting Basic Black card stock.  Then I used my Paper Snips to “unhitch” the ponies, as it were.  And, all of a sudden, I had a herd! 🙂

Once I got that thru my thick head, I recalled some summer nights back in the Colorado mountains.  I was the Riding Director at a Girl Scout camp.  My best-friend and I would sit in our tent – and we could hear “our” herd in their pasture.  Some nights, they’d get a wild hair and have a bit of a gallop.  We could hear them so clearly.  On a cool summer evening in the mountains, with a full moon….well.  It made our hearts glad!

So – let’s build the card.  This is a winter gallop!   Since it’s a Christmas card and all.

I kept one die cut with it’s “ground” – just snipping off the sleigh and reins.  That became the ground on my card.

I cut a circle from a piece of scrap card stock with my Circle Collection Framelits dies, and used it to mask off my full moon on a panel of Whisper White card stock.  Then I sponged the heck out of it with my Night of Navy Ink.  I wanted it to be dark enough to be quite obviously night.  Late at night.

With my background prepared, I used SNAIL (on the “ground part) and the Fine-Tip Glue Pen (under the single still-attached horse) to lay down the ground and then I added each of his herd mates in front and behind him.  Until I had a galloping herd!

I built the forest by running a piece of Vellum card stock thru the Big Shot in the Woodland TIEF.  My original thought had been to use it just like that.  But, when I laid the embossed piece over my midnight gallopers, you just couldn’t see them.  So….I fussy cut the whole forest out!  Yes.  Fussy cut.  Cuz of how I’m crazy!

Actually, it really wasn’t all that hard – just took a little bit of time!  Once I had my trees all cut out, I used more the Fine-Tip Glue Pen to adhere them over the horses.  I kept the glue to a minimum except at the edges, where I knew I’d cover them with my frame, and on the tips of the branches.  Note – when I mail this card, I’ll lay a piece of tissue or something over the front of the card – just to protect the little vellum tree branch tips! 🙂

To make the frame, I pulled out my Squares Collections Framelits.  Oh wait.  No, I didn’t – cause they’re in Georgia!  I distinctly remember thinking – “oh, I can save that weight in my suitcase, cause it’ll be so easy to just cut squares with my Paper Trimmer.”  Didn’t even consider a frame!  So – I went old school and used my Paper Trimmer.  First I cut the basic 5″ x 5″ square.  Then, I made the inside cuts at 1/4″ in, by raising the blade track up and setting it down in the card stock where I wanted the cut to start, then running it CAREFULLY up to where I wanted the cut to end.  And then lifting the blade track up and pulling out the card stock.  Thank goodness for my Stampin’ Trimmer! 🙂

I ran the frame thru the Big Shot in the Woodland TIEF, just to add a little interest, and then I adhered it over the top of my “picture” with the Fine-Tip Glue Pen.  Then I SNAILd that to a piece of Silver Foil.

The sentiment, from the Peaceful Wreath stamp set, is heat embossed in Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder, on a piece of Pool Party card stock, and then cut with the smallest Label die from the Tags & Labels Framelits.  It’s matted on a Silver Foil label, cut with the next largest Label in the framelits set.  I popped the sentiment onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

To decorate the front of the card, I punched some Itty Bitty Stars from Silver Foil, and then used the Fine-Tip Glue Pen to adhere black stars from the Metallics Sequin Assortment to them.  While they dried, I used the Fine-Tip pen and added some areas of glue around the ground under the horses’ feet and on the branches  – then I sprinkled that glue with Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter.  After I shook off all the excess – I used the Signo White Gel pen to add snow, as you can see.  No rhyme or reason – just where I figured you might be able to see snow under a full moon.

Finally, I stuck all my stars down with Fine-Tip Glue and added a small Rhinestone Basic Jewel to each one.

For the inside, I matted a piece of Whisper White card stock to a panel of Silver Foil.  Then, using a second sentiment from Peaceful Wreath, I heat embossed that with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

I dove into the Jingle All the Way stamp set (which coordinates with the Sleigh Ride Edgelits in a bundle – and it’s on the Retiring List, so….get it soon!) for the stars and snow flurries.  I stamped the stars in Night of Navy and the flurries in Soft Sky.  I adhered that panel to my Pool Party card base, popped the card front on the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and that was it!

I made a custom-sized envelope with a piece of Whisper White Envelope Paper and my Envelope Punch Board.  Then I added a liner (also made with the Punch Board) cut from Night of Navy card stock, and run thru the Woodland TIEF in the Big Shot.  Forget how to make the liners for a custom envelope?  Check out how to do it at my Tutorial!

On the front of the envelope, I repeated the Night of Navy stars and the Soft Sky snow flurries…..

Et Voila!  A midnight gallop of beautiful horses across a snowy pasture.  Oh yes.  I can almost hear the pounding of their hooves and their snorts of excitement and happiness!  This one will go to my Girl Scout riding camp counselor bestest buddy – she’ll remember listening to our herd! 🙂
