Stampin’ Up! Merry Medley Holly Jolly Layers

Hey y’all!  Well – it’s over.  We’ve seen the new 2017 Occasions Catalog.  We’ve perused the 2017 Sale-A-Bration Flyer.  We laughed and whoo-hoo’d.

Yes.  Even me.

I’ve pre-ordered some goodies – so I’ll have them to begin sharing projects with you soon!

Tomorrow afternoon – around 3pm Eastern time, I’ll be able to share pictures of the projects displayed at OnStage.  All made with the fun new products we’ll see in January!

You’re gonna like ’em – I promise!  There’s a little sumpin’ sumpin’ for everyone!   And of course – everyone loves Sale-a-bration!

Y’all know about the wonderful background stamp called Merry Medley, right?  So, one of the fun ideas we saw on Friday at the WCMD event was from Pam Morris.  She had taken her Merry Medley stamp and cut it apart into several – maybe….8?  9? – separate stamp sets.  Look at the projects she made for us!

merry-medley-projects-from-wcmd-2016
Fun, right?  Now – full disclosure – I wouldn’t do this with my only copy of this stamp.  I like it way too much as a background stamp.  But – if it continues into the Annual Catalog (fingers crossed!) – you can bet I’ll be ordering a second one and cutting it right up! 🙂

But for now….I used Merry Medley in it’s “whole” form and the host-exclusive set Holly Jolly Layers, paired with some Candy Cane Lane DSP to create a fun card.  Take a look-see:

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-4-stamps-n-lingers
The design for this card comes from this Stamp Ink Paper challenge:

sip-72-sketch
I started by simply SNAILing a piece of Crumb Cake paper from the Candy Cane Lane DSP onto a Real Red card stock mat (yes, Real Red – Crumb Cake – White.  Again.  Cuz it’s good!!)

Then I pulled out Merry Medley and inked it up with Real Red ink. Then I laid a strip of Crumb Cake card stock onto the stamp.  With these large background stamps it’s often easier to lay the stamp rubber-side-up on your work surface, ink it up, and lay your card stock on top.  Then press/rub all over to transfer the image to the card stock.  With the image on the card stock, I SNAILd it to a Real Red mat and then to the card front.

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-2-stamps-n-lingers
Then I added a piece of Real Red Stitched Edge Ribbon, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

The sentiment, from Holly Jolly Layers – is stamped in Versamark on a piece of Crumb Cake CS, sprinkled with Real Red Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and heat embossed.  When it was completely cool, I cut it with a scalloped square from the Squares Layering Framelits.  I matted it on a larger scallop edge square and popped it over the ribbon with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card front was done.

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-8-stamps-n-lingers
I love this Glitter Embossing Powder – it comes in Emerald Envy, too! – it’s fine enough to use with a relatively detailed stamp and it works just like “regular” stampin’ emboss powder!

On the inside, I inked the little candy cane from Holly Jolly Layers in Versamark, stamped it in the corner of a Whisper White panel, and heat embossed it with more of the Real Red Glitter Stampin’ Emboss powder.

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-5-stamps-n-lingers
I SNAILd it to a Real Red mat and into my Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

For my Medium Whisper White Envelope, I added another Holly Jolly Layers candy cane to the front – again with the Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder…

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and added some more of the Candy Cane Lane DSP to the envelope flap.

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-7-stamps-n-lingers

Et Voila!  Real Red and Crumb Cake come thru again – this time with a little sparkle! – and the Merry Medley stamp set instantly adds Christmas-y impact.  Hope you like!

FYI, here are the measurements for the full cutout pieces for the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies:

  • Circles:
    1-3/8”
    1-7/8”
    2-3/8”
    2-7/8”
  • Squares:
    1-3/16”
    1-5/8”
    2-1/8”
    2-5/8”
  • Ovals:
    1-3/4” x 13/16”

    2-3/4” x 1-13/16”
    3-1/4” x 2-5/16”

The stitched embossing is approximately 1/16” from the edge of the cutout. So the dimensions are approximately 1/8” smaller than the cutouts.

Stampin’ Up! Presents and Pines Box-in-a-Bag for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop.  This is color week – and I know there are going to be a lot of great projects for you to see this week, so….be sure to check out all the offerings of the Ladies-Who-Hop!

Here are the colors we used – a pretty good color palette for a Christmas-time project, don’t you think?

13939375_10210533907292230_2970596751619329350_n
My project also played nicely into this week’s The Paper Players Tic-Tac-Toe challenge.  Check the bottom row! 🙂

pp319-sketch

This weekend is the OnStage Local event – which just so happens to have a venue in Atlanta!  Handy, huh!?  And the day before that, Brian King and Pam Morris are hosting a World Card Making Day event (a little later than the actual WCMD – but nicely aligned with OnStage!).  And, they’re doing a 3-d project swap.  So…today’s share is one of the projects I made for that swap!

At least – that’s how it started out – now I’m not sure I’m going to give it away! 😉  Only time will tell!

I used the Presents and Pinecones DSP and some Pretty Pines Thinlits.  Added in a Holly Jolly Layers sentiment and made…this.  Take a look-see:

presents-pinecones-box-in-a-box-1-stamps-n-lingers

This is a “Box in a Bag”!  Fun, right?  And really easy to make!  My friend Jari Francis made one a few days ago, and I decided to try it for myself.  She – and I – used the great tutorial by Diana Gibbs on SplitCoast Stampers.  You can check it out right here!

Although you can’t see it, the inside box is made from a piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock, cut to 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″, put together exactly like the tutorial shows.

I used the pretty pine cones design from Presents and Pinecones for the “bag” part of the project.  Just like the tutorial stated, I ran a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive along the bottom and one side of my 5 1/2″ x 11″ piece of DSP, then I pulled off the backing paper from the bottom strip.  I “rolled” my paper around my box.

But – I sort of messed up.  I started the paper – in the middle of the box as instructed – but I started with the edge that had the Tear & Tape on it.

Wrong.

Start with the edge that does not have the adhesive.  That way, when you get to the end, you’ll be all ready to stick everything together.  If you do it my way, you’ll have to stop and add another piece of adhesive, and you’ll have a “leftover” strip inside your box.

Like mine! 🙂

But, it worked out and I had my bag!  So it was time for some decoration.

I cut a 1″ x 11″ strip of Crumb Cake card stock and ran it a few times thru the Pine Bough TIEF.  That added a little texture and interest, and broke the fibers of the card stock a little, making it easier to roll around the bottom of the bag.

presents-pinecones-box-in-a-bag-6-stamps-n-lingers

Which I did, using more Tear & Tape Adhesive.  When you do this – just take your time.  The most persnickety piece is making sure that the bottom of your strip stays aligned with the bottom of the bag/box.

At this point, I “designated” a “front” to the bag (I put the bag seam on one side, and the bottom strip seam on the front – knowing I’d cover it with my decorations.

I decorated the bag with Pretty Pines Thinlits pine boughs, cut from Garden Green card stock.  I cut several of each length and adhered them oh-so-artfully around the bottom of the bag, using Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  I wrapped some Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine three times around the bottom of the bag, adhering it with a Glue Dot at the front of the bag.  Before I stuck the final end down, I ran two Mini Pinecones embellishments thru the twine – and used the final Glue Dot to stick them in place.

presents-pinecones-box-in-a-bag-4-stamps-n-lingers

Next I cut some pine cones, all using Crumb Cake card stock.  For two of them, I cut “backer” pine cones from Copper Foil, and adhered them with Liquid Glue.  I also cut a couple of berries in Cherry Cobbler.  Using more of the Liquid Glue, I adhered it all to the bag.

The bow is tied from three pieces of Bakers’ Twine – Garden Green, Cherry Cobbler and Gold – and adhered with Liquid Glue.  I left the tails long and used more Liquid Glue to stick them to the box.

presents-pinecones-box-in-a-bag-5-stamps-n-lingers

With that all done, I addressed the top of the bag.  First I used my 1/2″ Circle Punch to cut holes in the top for my Cherry Cobbler 3/8″ Silky Taffeta Ribbon (which I’ll use to close the bag after putting my gift or a few pieces of chocolate inside!).

I made my tag by stamping the round image from the Host-exclusive set called Holly Jolly Layers (Holiday Catalog) onto Whisper White card stock.  I used my Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Markers to color the stamp directly.  Then I cut it with a scalloped die from the Circles Layering Framelits.  I punched a hole thru the top with my 1/8″ Handheld Circle punch and then ran three strands of Baker’s Twine thru the hole.

presents-pinecones-box-in-a-bag-3-stamps-n-lingers

I tied the label into one of my 1/2″ holes at the top of the bag, tying a final bow and….the bag was done! 🙂

This is a fun sized bag – it would easily hold a small (lightweight!) gift – socks?  Tie?  Action Figure? Candy?  And it’s really easy to get the box-in-a-bag part put together so that you can get to decorating – which is the fun part.  Hope you like!  And that you’ll give one a try yourself! 🙂

Stampin’ Up! Warm & Cheery Holly Jolly Layers

Good morning, y’all!  Yes, it’s true – it’s Friday again!  This week has flown by, hasn’t it?  Not sure why, but…it really has!

I have a new….friend.  Well.  Friend could be an exaggeration, since I’ll likely never see her again.

Meet….Maggie:

little-green-frog
I came across Maggie (named for the Ancho Magnifico peppers she’s cozying up to!) this morning as I picked a peck of non-pickled peppers.  I was able – just barely! – to keep from squealing like a girl (the ponies were watching – there’s an image to uphold, dontcha know?) and just casually greeted her.  And then really watched where I picked next!  She didn’t so much as wiggle!  She’s kinda cute, huh?  Doubt she’ll be there next time – will be off doing whatever frogs do!

My card today channels Outlander.  Do y’all watch that on Starz?  Or – better – have you read the series?  My mom introduced me to Outlander many years ago.  Once I got into that first book – which took me a minute – I read the entire series voraciously!  They.  Are.  Wonderful!  Dianna Gabaldon – the Outlander series.  If you’ve got a Kindle, you can get the entire set on Amazon.

Anywho – card.  A friend asked me what I’d do with the new Mini Tassels.  I hadn’t really figured anything out yet, just sort of figured it would be some kind of Halloween Card.  But when I started making this card….I started to think of the flashes used to hold up kilt hose.  Thus began my card with it’s artistically-licensed kilt-hose-flash!  I used the Holly Jolly Layers host-exclusive stamp set, some Warmth & Cheer DSP, and…a few little surprises.  Take a look-see:

holly-jolly-layers-4-stamps-n-lingers
See the Mini Tassel? 🙂

The card design hails from the Pals Paper Arts design sketch #318:

ppa-318-sketch
This is a square card – so I also made a custom envelope!

The first step was to mat a square of the pretty plaid Warmth & Cheer DSP paper on a double mat of Basic Black and Cherry Cobbler.

Then I SNAILd that to the front of my 5″ square Whisper White card base.

The sentiment, from Holly Jolly Layers, is stamped on Whisper White in Emerald Envy ink, and cut out with a Circles Layering Framelits die.  I dabbed a little Cherry Cobbler on the berries with my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker.  I used the back of one of the 2015-2017 In Color Doilies, and turned it from White to Black with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.  I used a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the sentiment to the doily.

holly-jolly-layers-2-stamps-n-lingers
The next step was to build my flash.  I first heat embossed – in Silver – one of the smaller circle images from the Paisleys & Posies stamp set, and cut it with its matching die in the Paisleys Framelits.  I rounded it up with my stylus on the back of the circle.

Holly Berry Happiness also lent a hand – I stamped a couple of small holly leaves in Versamark on Emerald Envy, heat embossed them in Silver and cut them with the Holly Builder Punch.

The last piece to cut was a short pine bough with my Pretty Pines Thinlits, cut in Silver Foil.

I built the flash with two lengths of 3/8″ Silky Taffeta Ribbon – one each in Cherry Cobbler and Emerald Emvy.  I used my Handheld Stapler to secure them together and some Liquid Glue to add the Silver pine bough and the two holly leaves.  Then a Glue Dot to add the Mini Tassle and a Stampin’ Dimensional for the silver “medallion”.

holly-jolly-layers-8-stamps-n-lingers
I used a Glue Dot to add the flash to the card front, then another Glue Dot to nestle a Mini Pinecone into the decoration.  Finally, I made some “berries” with Cherry Cobbler Enamel Shapes.

I added the sentiment with more Liquid Glue – and the card front was done!

holly-jolly-layers-3-stamps-n-lingers
On the inside, I used a layer stack of Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black and Whisper White, and added a Basic Black-matted strip of the Warmth & Cheer DSP plaid across the bottom.

holly-jolly-layers-5-stamps-n-lingers
I SNAILd it into the card and that was that!

I made a custom sized envelope with a piece of White Envelope Paper (this color is retired now – sorry!).  You can see my Tutorial on how to do this right here.  I used the dimensions for a 5″ x 5″ card on the Envelope Punch Board – plus 1/8″ to accommodate the embellishment on my card – to make a square envelope.  When you add the additional 1/8″, still use the score line measurement that’s on the Punch Board.

I ran a strip of the plaid Warmth & Cheer Designer Washi Tape across the front…

holly-jolly-layers-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and added some more of the Warmth & Cheer plaid paper to the envelope flap!

holly-jolly-layers-7-stamps-n-lingers
Et Voila!  Or….er….Aye!  I may be a Sassenach, but….if you squint your eyes, I think it’s possible that a self-respecting Scottish lad might wear this flash to keep his plaid kilt hose up where they belong.

Maybe… 🙂

Regardless – hope you like!
