Stampin’ Up! Merry Medley Holly Jolly Layers

Hey y’all!  Well – it’s over.  We’ve seen the new 2017 Occasions Catalog.  We’ve perused the 2017 Sale-A-Bration Flyer.  We laughed and whoo-hoo’d.

Yes.  Even me.

I’ve pre-ordered some goodies – so I’ll have them to begin sharing projects with you soon!

Tomorrow afternoon – around 3pm Eastern time, I’ll be able to share pictures of the projects displayed at OnStage.  All made with the fun new products we’ll see in January!

You’re gonna like ’em – I promise!  There’s a little sumpin’ sumpin’ for everyone!   And of course – everyone loves Sale-a-bration!

Y’all know about the wonderful background stamp called Merry Medley, right?  So, one of the fun ideas we saw on Friday at the WCMD event was from Pam Morris.  She had taken her Merry Medley stamp and cut it apart into several – maybe….8?  9? – separate stamp sets.  Look at the projects she made for us!

merry-medley-projects-from-wcmd-2016
Fun, right?  Now – full disclosure – I wouldn’t do this with my only copy of this stamp.  I like it way too much as a background stamp.  But – if it continues into the Annual Catalog (fingers crossed!) – you can bet I’ll be ordering a second one and cutting it right up! 🙂

But for now….I used Merry Medley in it’s “whole” form and the host-exclusive set Holly Jolly Layers, paired with some Candy Cane Lane DSP to create a fun card.  Take a look-see:

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-4-stamps-n-lingers
The design for this card comes from this Stamp Ink Paper challenge:

sip-72-sketch
I started by simply SNAILing a piece of Crumb Cake paper from the Candy Cane Lane DSP onto a Real Red card stock mat (yes, Real Red – Crumb Cake – White.  Again.  Cuz it’s good!!)

Then I pulled out Merry Medley and inked it up with Real Red ink. Then I laid a strip of Crumb Cake card stock onto the stamp.  With these large background stamps it’s often easier to lay the stamp rubber-side-up on your work surface, ink it up, and lay your card stock on top.  Then press/rub all over to transfer the image to the card stock.  With the image on the card stock, I SNAILd it to a Real Red mat and then to the card front.

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-2-stamps-n-lingers
Then I added a piece of Real Red Stitched Edge Ribbon, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

The sentiment, from Holly Jolly Layers – is stamped in Versamark on a piece of Crumb Cake CS, sprinkled with Real Red Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and heat embossed.  When it was completely cool, I cut it with a scalloped square from the Squares Layering Framelits.  I matted it on a larger scallop edge square and popped it over the ribbon with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card front was done.

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-8-stamps-n-lingers
I love this Glitter Embossing Powder – it comes in Emerald Envy, too! – it’s fine enough to use with a relatively detailed stamp and it works just like “regular” stampin’ emboss powder!

On the inside, I inked the little candy cane from Holly Jolly Layers in Versamark, stamped it in the corner of a Whisper White panel, and heat embossed it with more of the Real Red Glitter Stampin’ Emboss powder.

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-5-stamps-n-lingers
I SNAILd it to a Real Red mat and into my Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

For my Medium Whisper White Envelope, I added another Holly Jolly Layers candy cane to the front – again with the Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder…

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and added some more of the Candy Cane Lane DSP to the envelope flap.

merry-medley-holly-jolly-layers-7-stamps-n-lingers

Et Voila!  Real Red and Crumb Cake come thru again – this time with a little sparkle! – and the Merry Medley stamp set instantly adds Christmas-y impact.  Hope you like!

And there’s more great news…although the 25% off stamps sets sale ends 30 November, you’ll still be able to get the Stitched Shapes Framelits after that date! Cool, huh? 🙂

Details:

  • Stitched Shapes Framelits available beginning today! (will continue to be available through the 2017-18 Annual Catalog!)
  • 1 – 30 November 2016: select stamp sets 25% off
  • Promotion Deadline (25% off select stamp sets): 30 November 2016, by 11:50 PM (MT)

FYI, here are the measurements for the full cutout pieces for the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies:

  • Circles:
    1-3/8”
    1-7/8”
    2-3/8”
    2-7/8”
  • Squares:
    1-3/16”
    1-5/8”
    2-1/8”
    2-5/8”
  • Ovals:
    1-3/4” x 13/16”
    2-1/4” x 1-5/16”
    2-3/4” x 1-13/16”
    3-1/4” x 2-5/16”

The stitched embossing is approximately 1/16” from the edge of the cutout. So the dimensions are approximately 1/8” smaller than the cutouts.

Add these stamp sets to your stash if you don’t already have ’em, folks!  They’re good ‘un’s! 🙂

Stampin’ Up! Jolly Friends Candy Cane Lane for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop. We’ve got a color challenge for you this week – it’s one that you’ve seen me use before.  Okay – last week!  I didn’t realize when I did my card for last week’s hop that the colors for this week were the same ones! 😉  Oh, well – it’s a classic for a reason!  Be sure to see how all the other ladies decided to use these colors this week, okay?

Here’s that color combo I was talking about:

14046006_10210503224405177_8562198508716261154_n
I played with the cute moose from the Jolly Friends stamp set, added a sentiment and a few little extras from Tin of Tags, and enveloped it all in Candy Cane Lane DSP.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Snow Friends & Candy Canes for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop. We’ve got a sketch challenge for you this week – and there’s no telling what we’ll see!  I hope you’ll check out all the projects from the ladies-who-hop…

So, here’s the sketch for this week!

blog-hop-29-sept-16-sketch
This past weekend, at Amy Koenders’ business meeting, we all got to pick a “prize”.  Gift?  Amy put all our names in a hat and drew them out, then we got to go into the goody room and pick from several bundles-o’-fun.  Since I’ve taken my cue from my SU! “mom” (Amy), I had almost everything on the table!  Yikes!  But – I didn’t have the Snow Place stamp set and its matching Framelits called Snow Friends.

So…I snagged it up!  For this sketch, I combined it with some Candy Cane Lane DSP and the Endless Thanks stamp set.  Take a look-see:

snow-friends-and-candy-canes-4-stamps-n-lingers
Oh, yea – I also turned the sketch on it’s side.  Sorry – forgot to mention that!

I started with a Crumb Cake design from the Candy Cane Lane DSP (hey – this is one of the DSPs that’s in the Buy-Three-Get-One-Free sale starting on Saturday!), and I matted it on Real Red.  Then I wrapped a piece of the new Real Red 3/4″ Stitched Edge Ribbon around the panel, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

My center artwork started with a Real Red scallop-edge circle, cut with the Circles Layering Framelits. Next came a smaller circle of Crumb Cake. Then I cut a circle from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper – of a size between the two circles.

snow-friends-and-candy-canes-1-stamps-n-lingers
Using the Outdoor Adventure Edgelit, I cut across the Glimmer Paper Circle to make a tree-y background and adhered that to the layered circle with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  For the stars, I used the little stars die in the Detailed Santa Thinlits, and cut them from more Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.  They’re adhered with dabs of Liquid Glue.

Then it was time to make my snowman!

I stamped the large snowman image in the Snow Place stamp set, in Pool Party ink on a piece of Whisper White card stock, and cut him with the matching die in Snow Friends.

I brushed him all over with Clear Wink of Stella, to make him shimmery.  Across the bottom, I smeared some Liquid Glue, and then dipped it in my Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter.  Using my Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker, I colored his face (colored over the Pool Party), and then made his nose into a real carrot with some Pumpkin Pie!

snow-friends-and-candy-canes-8-stamps-n-lingers
He’s dressed with items that all come from the Snow Place stamp set – cut with framelits in the Snow Friends set – no fussy cutting required!  Well, one tiny cut…

Everything is in Real Red, except his ear muffs.  I think he kind of rocks his Pacific Point muffs, don’t you?  His stick arms are in Early Espresso.  The only fussy cut I did was on the buttons.  There’s three buttons that stamp and cut at once – I only wanted two.  So I cut them apart.  But that was it!  Promise!

I adhered everything to him with Liquid Glue, and then adhered him to the card with SNAIL and Liquid Glue.

snow-friends-and-candy-canes-2-stamps-n-lingers
For my sentiment, I stamped the little “thanks” from the Endless Thanks stamp set in Real Red on a strip of Whisper White.  Then I snipped a banner end.  In lieu of an actual mat, I added a faux mat by edging the banner – pretty thickly! – with my Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker.  Then I adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue – and that was it!

snow-friends-and-candy-canes-3-stamps-n-lingers
On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Endless Thanks in Real Red on a Whisper White panel.  Then I added the small snowman from Snow Place in Pool Party.  I stamped his stick arms in Early Espresso and his ear muff in Pacific Point.  Once again I used the Early Espresso Marker to fix his face, and colored his nose with Pumpkin Pie.

snow-friends-and-candy-canes-5-stamps-n-lingers
I matted it on Real Red and Whisper White and then SNAILd it into my Real Red card base.  On the front, I SNAILd a Whisper White panel directly to the card base, then popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a second small Snow Place snowman on the front…

snow-friends-and-candy-canes-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and an envelope flap with some more of the Crumb Cake Candy Cane Lane DSP!

snow-friends-and-candy-canes-7-stamps-n-lingers
Et Voila!  A snowy scene with uber-friendly snowmen, in a classic Red/Crumb Cake/White color scheme.  I think the expressions on their faces are just so stinkin’ cute, don’t you?  Hope you like! 🙂

Stampin’ Up! Jolly Friends Christmas Magic

Good mornin’, y’all!  Happy Saturday – hope you’re planning something fun!  My hubby’s coming home today – he’s been gone for 6 or 7 weeks now, taking care of his mom.  She had a car accident back in July – and….well.  It’s been a long few weeks.  So, he’ll get home this afternoon – probably pretty tired.  I need to get the house cleaned up and have something good planned for dinner!

Yes.  I am a Holly-Homemaker like that.  Sometimes!

Not a lot – but sometimes. And my definition includes the fun stuff….cooking tasty things (someone else cleans up), growing fun stuff in the garden (someone else weeds, de-bugs), crafting (would be lovely if someone else tidied up after me), kissing pony noses (someone else clean stalls and sweep the aisle)….you get the drift! 😉

My master plan is to get my house cleaned up one last time and then maybe hire someone to come in and do it for me!  Wouldn’t that be wonderful?!?  I could card make, and cook and gather up stuff for the Goodwill.  Without that pesky housecleaning hanging over my head all the time.

That’s how it feels to me – like a giant weight hanging over my head.  I detest housecleaning.  Gives me a panic knot in my throat to think about doing it.  But I like a clean house, so it’s a conundrum for me!

Anyway – enough of my housekeeping angst!  Let’s talk about something fun, like a card, shall we?  I played with the Jolly Friends stamp set – specifically the moose.  He’s so cute!  And I added a couple of nice sentiments from the Christmas Magic set.  Take a look-see:

jolly-friends-christmas-magic-4-stamps-n-lingers
I played along with a sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch, challenge #191:

cts-191-sketch
And I also played along with a technique challenge from TGIF Challenges….#74:

tgifc-74-sketch
Fortunately the folks at TGIF said I didn’t have to use “real” stitches!!  So I could use my little faux ones!

I built the card kind of in stages.  First I cut my frames – I used different size scalloped edge dies from the Squares Layering Framelits to cut pieces of Real Red and Crumb Cake.  Then I used smaller straight edge dies to cut the middles out.  I stitched them up with my Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker.

Next up?  The Jolly Friends moose.  I stamped him in Early Espresso ink on Whisper White and fussy cut him out.  Then I colored him in with my Clear Wink of Stella “paint” brush – I gave him some Blushing Bride “cheeks”, a Crumb Cake head, and Sahara Sand antlers.

jolly-friends-christmas-magic-1-stamps-n-lingers
To make him uber-cool, I gave him some Maui’s….I used sticky notes to mask his antlers off and then stamped the little sunglasses from Jolly Friends in Basic Black Archival Ink.

Then I figured out how the frames were going to be arranged and how he was going to be inside them.

Next I cut a Whisper White card front, and my Candy Cane Lane DSP square and its Real Red mat.  I dry fit everything together so that I could find where my sentiment needed to be.  Once I had that, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp the little sentiment from Christmas Magic in Real Red.

jolly-friends-christmas-magic-2-stamps-n-lingers
I really wasn’t sure how the sentiment was going to look if I embossed the panel, but I figured….what the heck!?  So, I ran it thru the Big Shot in the Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF (stitching…sewing…knitting?!?).  When it came out – the sentiment looked just fine, so I SNAILd it to a Real Red mat.

I SNAILd the matted Candy Cane Lane square to the card front and trimmed up the excess.

The framed moose is made as a separate piece.  I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere everything together first, and then used Stampin’ Dimensionals all over the back of it to pop it onto the card.  And that was it for the card front! 🙂

jolly-friends-christmas-magic-3-stamps-n-lingers
On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Christmas Magic in Real Red on a Whisper White panel.  Then I stamped the Jolly Friends moose in Early Espresso, peeking in the corner.  He’s colored exactly the same way I colored Mr. Moose on the front.

jolly-friends-christmas-magic-5-stamps-n-lingers
I “stitched” all the way around the panel and the moose with the Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker.  Then I SNAILd it to a Real Red mat and into my Crumb Cake card base.  I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

I repeated Mr. Moose – including the stitches and his cool shades –  on the front of a Whisper White Medium Envelope…

jolly-friends-christmas-magic-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and added some of the Candy Cane Lane DSP to the envelope flap.

jolly-friends-christmas-magic-7-stamps-n-lingers
Et Voila!  Mr. Jolly Friends Moose has got himself hung up in the picture frames, for sure!  But, he’s so cool – he looks like he meant to be there, doesn’t he?!  Hope you like!

Scroll on down for the card cuts and all the goodies you need to make this one for yourself!

Stampin’ Up! Detailed Greetings From Santa!

Good morning!  If you’re here from Amy’s blog – welcome!  Thanks for taking a few minutes out of your day to stop by.  Hope you’ll be back!

I just got back from another trip to the Goodwill drop off – they recognize my van, have my receipt ready, and tell me they’re glad to see me again and hope I’ll come back! Which I assure them I will – I think I could single-handledy keep the GA Goodwill Industry afloat for a decade!  And that’s without even going into the basement. 😉

If I go into the basement – which I probably won’t, cuz….I just ain’t that tough! – I’ll keep all of the SE continental US in donated goods for…well…  A long time!

But, before I went to the Goodwill I made a fun card for Christmas.  This is a super easy, super fun fold, that’s both a greeting card and a holiday decor item.  This one uses the new Detailed Santa Thinlit and the coordinating Greetings From Santa stamp set – that I bought together as a bundle and saved a little dough!  Take a look-see:

detailed-greetings-from-santa-8-stamps-n-lingers
There’s a little battery-operated votive candle inside there, creating the glow.  Cool, huh?  Let me show you how to do it!

First though – I’m playing along with the Stamp Ink Paper challenge #65:

sip-65-sketch

I started with a piece of 12″ x 4 1/4″ Real Red card stock, that I scored at 4 1/4 and 8 1/2″.  I cut a second piece of the card stock at 4 1/4″ square.  To make the card front, I lined up my Detailed Santa Thinlit die in the middle of what would be the front of the card.

Says Captain Obvious, from the Department of Redundancy Department!

Sorry.

I ran the 4 1/4″ square thru as well – I used the first piece to line things up so they’d both have the image cut out in the same place.

detailed-greetings-from-santa-3-stamps-n-lingers
Then I cut a square of Vellum card stock to 3 7/8″ x 3 7/8″ and used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere it to the back of the cutout on the card base.  I used more Liquid Glue to adhere the second die cut square over the card base, sandwiching the vellum between the two pieces.  That way, the inside looks just as good as the outside when your recipient opens the card! 🙂

On the inside, I used two pieces of Candy Cane Lane DSP to mat two pieces of Whisper White card stock.  One goes in the middle and one is the bottom piece that holds the card up!

I used images from the Greetings From Santa stamp set, and my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to get them all lined up.  Everything is stamped in Real Red.  When you make this, the biggest trick is ensuring that your main sentiment – in my case “Merry Christmas” – is placed so that it’s visible when the card is standing open.

One of the dies in the Detailed Santa Thinlits makes different size stars, so I cut that die twice in Silver Foil and then used little tiny dabs of Liquid Glue to strew the stars (that’s star strewing) around on the two panels.

The last thing to do is make the card “stops” – the two embellishments that hold the card in place.  For this one, I used two silver stars from the Metallic Enamel Shapes.  They weren’t tall enough by themselves to catch the card stock, so I mounted each little star on an equally small piece to Stampin’ Dimensional!  Just stand the card up how you want it – and eyeball the placement of your “stops”.  And that’s all there was to it!

Then I looked at the front and decided it needed a little extra…something!  So – I ran a piece of Whisper White thru in the large Detailed Santa Thinlit die, and snipped his fluffy hat from the die cut.  I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere it over the same area on the card.

And…didnt’ like it.  Still a little too…plain!  I decided I wanted to use some Silver Stampin’ Glitter on the fleece.  But I was askeered to do it right on my card – after all – if I hated it or messed it up, I’d be messing up the entire card!

So – I cut another piece of Whisper White, snipped the fleece and applied a little line of Liquid Glue around the edge.  Then I sprinkled it with the Silver Stampin’ Glitter.  When I shook off the excess, it looked good, so I adhered that to the card, too.  That makes the fleece trim of his hat be a double thickness – which worked out quite well! 🙂

For my envelope, I created a custom envelope – using the measurements on the Envelope Punch Board for a 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ card.  Since this is bigger than my card already – I didn’t add any more size to the paper.  I used my White Envelope Paper again – sorry, but I just couldn’t make any of the active envelope papers work.  I’m calling SU! on Monday and asking why they retired the Neutrals – and asking them to please bring it back! 🙂

Once I made the envelope, I decorated the front with a little of the Candy Cane Lane Designer Washi Tape…

…and then added some more Candy Cane Lane DSP to the flap.

Et Voila!  A super cute card – that, with the addition of a little battery votive, becomes a fun decoration for the holidays!

Stampin’ Up! Sneak Peek – Hang Your Stocking Cookie Cutter Christmas!

Hey, ya’ll!  Here we are on a Monday again – and it’s the 22nd of August.  Can you even believe that?  The weather is surely hot and humid enough for August, but… I actually have trees that are showing some yellow leaves.  And I don’t think they’re dying from heat!  I have leaves in my pond.  Could it….could it actually be….thinking about….maybe….Fall?!?  Oh my goodness, I hope so!!  Don’t you?

One might think I’d have made a Fall card for you today, but au contraire!  I went all Christmas!  I’ve been trying to be good and not inundate you with Christmas – unlike the stores who I suspect will have trees up in a week or so!  But, I can’t help it very much – I love Christmas and the new Holiday Catty has so many good Christmas goodies…..

I used some sentiments from the Hang Your Stocking stamp set – didn’t use the Framelits that coordinate on this one.  And – just cuz I have it, I used the Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp set and the matching Cookie Cutter Builder punch (don’t forget that this punch also works with the Cookie Cutter Halloween stamp set!).
