Hey, ya’ll! Here we are on a Monday again – and it’s the 22nd of August. Can you even believe that? The weather is surely hot and humid enough for August, but… I actually have trees that are showing some yellow leaves. And I don’t think they’re dying from heat! I have leaves in my pond. Could it….could it actually be….thinking about….maybe….Fall?!? Oh my goodness, I hope so!! Don’t you?
One might think I’d have made a Fall card for you today, but au contraire! I went all Christmas! I’ve been trying to be good and not inundate you with Christmas – unlike the stores who I suspect will have trees up in a week or so! But, I can’t help it very much – I love Christmas and the new Holiday Catty has so many good Christmas goodies…..
I used some sentiments from the Hang Your Stocking stamp set – didn’t use the Framelits that coordinate on this one. And – just cuz I have it, I used the Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp set and the matching Cookie Cutter Builder punch (don’t forget that this punch also works with the Cookie Cutter Halloween stamp set!).
I made a shutter card for you with these stamp sets and some Candy Cane Lane DSP – take a look-see:
I was looking at sketch challenges, and I saw the Pals Paper Arts challenge #314:
When I saw it, I saw a gate fold card….do you?
I also played along with The Paper Players challenge #309:
Now – I’ve got a Tutorial with step-by-step instructions on how to make a Shutter Card – you can go right here to see that – so I’m not going to go thru each step here. I’ll give you the card cuts down below for this specific card, no worries! 🙂
My card base is a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Crumb Cake card stock, scored and folded at 2 1/8″ and 6 3/8″, per the Tutorial.
I used Real Red card stock for my mats – inside and out – and a couple of different designs from the Candy Cane Lane DSP. On the gate front, I cut two narrow strips of candy-design paper from Candy Cane Lane and adhered them to stay true to the sketch (and to the Sweet theme!). You can also see three Real Red Enamel Shapes up in the top corner….
My belly band is made from Candy Cane Lane DSP and a piece of the new Real Red 3/8″ Stitched Edge Ribbon. I wrapped the paper around the folded card and secured it with SNAIL, then used Glue Dots to secure the ribbon. I cut a couple of scalloped-edge circles from the Circles Layering Framelits, in Real Red and Whisper White. The middle circle is what was left when I cut out the inside center panel.
I stamped the middle Whisper White circle with a sentiment from the Hang Your Stocking stamp set, in Real Red ink. The three candy pieces are punched from a piece of the Candy Cane Lane DSP, using my 1/2″ Circle Punch, and adhered with a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. Once all the circle layers were SNAILd together, I adhered it to the belly band with Liquid Glue.
On the inside, I built my shutter with more Crumb Cake card stock. My center panel is Candy Cane Lane DSP SNAILd to Real Red card stock.
You can see I added a little gingerbread man from the Cookie Cutter Christmas bundle. He’s stamped in Chocolate Chip ink, punched with the matching Cookie Cutter Builder punch, and adhered with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. Tip: be sure that any embellishment you add here doesn’t interfere with the action of your gate card opening and closing! 😉
My inside sentiment is also from Hang Your Stocking and is stamped on a Whisper White circle in Early Espresso. I matted it on a Real Red circle and then wrapped two pieces of Candy Cane Lane Designer Washi Tape around it. I used Liquid Glue, slid the circle inside the open shutter and positioned it in the center!
And that’s it for the card – like I said, there are complete instructions on how to make one for yourself over in my Tutorial!
For my envelope, I decided to go with Whisper White so my gingerbread man would look the same as it did in my card. I ran two pieces of Candy Cane Lane Designer Washi across the front of the envelope. Then I inked the Cookie Cutter Christmas image in Chocolate Chip ink – only inking part of the image…
…and then I used one of my designs from Candy Cane Lane DSP on the envelope flap.
Et Voila! I’m pretty well tickled over how this little card turned out – hope you like!

That’s awesome Mary! Love the colors and the little gingerbread man inside is perfect. If you’re starting to see fall at your house, send it to the north side of Atlanta…it seems to have skipped us! 😉
My trees may just be a little confused, cuz it’s still pretty danged hot up here. I suspect they detected a minuscule shortening of the day and went crazy! Thanks, Amy. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing your very creative talents with us.
I so look forward to seeing your post each day even if we are in a different time zone and season. We are just stating to see spring here in Aus. Love this card might just have to try and make one.
Thank YOU, Rosalie! Thanks for reading my posts from way Down Under! Definitely give a shutter card a try – just take your time with the shutters and you’ll have success! 🙂
Few golden aspen here. 🙂 And yesterday, the stove went on downstairs. Ha!
Visions of sugarplums indeed, and another feat of engineering. Great card.
It’ll be Fall soon. Just say it over and over and it’s sure to be true! Thanks, Mom! 🙂
Mary, thinking of you today. Arrived in Savanah where Accuweather says it feels like 106! Ok. I really like your card Magic. Love cards that surprise the recipient. Pink House is on my list of places to eat. However, checking the menu, I think I could probably be ok with the napkin!!! LOL…….
LOL – yes, I’m sure even their napkins taste wonderful, but….go crazy! Have the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and collards!! 🙂 Thanks, Beth – and have a great time in the blast furnace! 🙂
Just too cute, Mary! I love this 🙂
Thanks so much, Jari! 🙂
Fun card to open. It’s like a gift!
What a nice thing to say, Patti – thanks! 🙂
Wow this card has impressed me in more ways than one, Mary! I think this is the fanciest fancy fold I’ve ever seen! Love how the sentiment reveals itself as you open the card. Thanks so much for playing along with my challenge this week at The Paper Players!
Thank YOU, Sandy! 🙂
The quadrant patterns are stunning! Superb!
Thanks much, Brent! 🙂
This really is a pretty awesome card. I really like how you layered the bellyband. I like that little white scallop peeking out. Reminds me of ruffles. The new DSP looks great. Thanks for joining us at the Paper Players this week.
Thanks a lot, Colleen! 🙂
