Stampin’ Up! Sentimental Reindeer Fun Sneak Peek Christmas Card with Video Tutorial

Happy Happy FRIDAY!! Whoo-hoo! Today’s the day my new craft room benches/drawers arrive and so…hopefully we’ll make some headway getting things changed out.

Hopefully.

It could happen!  😂

As the days tick by – Christmas is already on our minds, so today’s card is another one you might want to think about as one of yours to send this year!  It features the fun new Reindeer Fun stamp set and bundled dies and pretty paper from the new Sentimental Christmas DSP.  You can get these BOTH on 4 Sept in the new Sep-Dec 2024 Mini Catalog.  And – there’s a cool faux-dry-embossing technique, too!  Take a look-see:

Can you see my “faux embossing”?  I wanted a holly-leaf embossed front panel – and…we don’t HAVE a holly-leaf embossing folder.  Enter…faux dry embossing! 🙂

I started by using the holly leaf and holly berries dies in the Reindeer Fun die set to cut out a bunch of Shaded Spruce leaves and berries.  I cut ten of each – and…used all the leaves and about half the berries.

Using Liquid Glue, I adhered the leaves and berries onto a Shaded Spruce panel – letting some of them hang off the edges.  Note: they don’t have to completely cover the center of the panel since it’s got the matted DSP panel over it.

I used Paper Snips to cut off the excess and then popped the panel onto the front of my Shaded Spruce card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I adhered a pretty piece of Sentimental Christmas DSP to a Basic Beige mat and adhered it to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I used the Reindeer Fun die to cut out a Shaded Spruce wreath and adhered it to the DSP with Liquid Glue.

Using the dies in the Reindeer Fun die set, I cut out the three parts for the deer – there are three dies and I used them all – cutting one each from Early Espresso (antlers); Basic Beige (middle layer); Pecan Pie (top layer).  I used the middle layer die again – this time to get the little “negative” from the nose – on a piece of Cherry Cobbler Festive Glimmer Paper (available 4 Sept).  I used Liquid Glue to stack them together – adding the little Glimmer negative for his nose – and then adhered it with a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The Reindeer Fun die set has two “gift” dies and two “ribbon” dies.  I used them to cut out gifts and ribbons in Shaded Spruce, Pretty Peacock, Lost Lagoon cardstocks and Cherry Cobbler Festive Glimmer Paper.  Using Liquid Glue, I adhered the ribbon die cuts to the gift die cuts.  I wish it was this easy to wrap REAL gifts! 😎

Then I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the gifts to the DSP panel.

I tucked a couple of Cherry Cobbler Adhesive-backed Berries onto the wreath and the card front was done!

On the inside,  I stamped the Reindeer Fun leaping deer in Pecan Pie ink on a Basic White panel.  Over that, I stamped the sentiment in Poppy Parade ink.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to the inside of the card base and the card was done.

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the leaping deer on the front…

…and more of the Sentimental Christmas DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  So….what do you think about faux dry embossing!?  Pretty cool, huh?  It really opens up a ton of design options for you to add tone-on-tone texture to your projects!  The holly leaves and berries from the new Reindeer Fun set are pretty perfect for the technique!  And I think the images and sentiments are darling.  Although I didn’t use the coordinating Reindeer Days DSP – there are dies in the set that cut out some of the images in the DSP – which is so cool!  The DSP I DID use – Sentimental Christmas is old-fashioned feeling and very beautiful! 🙂

CHECKOUT THIS AWESOME FUNDRAISER!

The Grand Chapter of Iowa Order of the Eastern Star is holding a fundraiser for Retrieving Freedom – a organization that trains Service dogs for Veterans and Autistic children!

You can lend your support to this great organization – AND maybe win this beautiful quilt – designed by my friend and teammate Julie Johnston…

…by purchasing raffle tickets!
Here’s the deets:

–  Tickets are $1 each and you can purchase as many as you wish

–  The quilt measures about 61″ x 73″

– The quilt was “commissioned” by the Grand Chapter of Iowa Order of the Eastern Star

–  Julie designed the quilt using symbols and colors chosen by the Worthy Grand Matron, Mary Reicks, and Worthy Grand Patron Joe Ried

–  One of the symbols is songbirds, so Julie took photos of 14 Iowa songbirds, printed them on fabric, and wove them into the design. There are 14 different bird photos – one in each square of the quilt!
–  The other major symbol is bicycles and fabric incorporating them is part of the field of the quilt

If you’d like to purchase tickets to support this great cause – AND maybe win that quilt! – please send Julie an e-mail at: jg441157j5x@natel.net

Finn Fan Fix

We walked up to get an Amazon package yesterday evening and there were three deer right at the gate.

Finn and I stopped and let Wayne go quietly up.  The idea was to gently persuade them to jump the fence INTO the pasture – versus OUT of the property (and potentially on the road).

Watching Dad walk away.

I’m being so good aren’t I, Mom?!

I can even do a STAY – and there’s deers and EVERYTHING!

Wait – is that them!?

This is taking sooooo long.  Did it have to be a SIT-stay to count?!

He’s a good boy.

Or – he truly doesn’t give half a darn about the deer.  Rather stay with his mom anyway!! 🥰

Such a cute card! Love the little deer peeking out of the pile of gifts. 🙂 Finn is such a good boy…Ginny loves to bark like a crazy dog at any deer that walk through our yard. 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Amy! He barks when he’s inside and they walk around the house or the pond. THAT’S a totally different situation!! LOL!

  2. Mary Katherine Knipp

    Love the card. Thank you.
And love the Finn stories too. I think if Finn went
after the deer, the deer would win.
    Such a great “furry friend”

    • stampsnlingers

Oh yeah – every. Single. Time. And he’s okay with that! He’s a lover not a hunter!! LOL. Thanks, Mary Katherine! 🙂

  3. Susan K

Ah, such a super cute card! I love the deer in the packages but esp love the faux embossing! Great idea. TFS. Finny is such a good boy. That took lots of patience. Which way did the deer go?

    • stampsnlingers

They went just to the top of the hill – in the woods – right inside the pasture. This time of year they’re not too afraid of us! And yes – he is a VERY good boy! Thanks, Susan – I’m glad you like the card! 🙂
