Stampin’ Up! Traditions of Saint Nicholas Christmas Book Fold with Video Tutorial

Good Sunday morning, y’all!  Hope your weekend is going well.  I did a little shopping yesterday for some last minute things.  By which one could be forgiven for thinking that means it’s the last time I’ll go out or shop before Christmas.

Bwahahahaha!  I wish!  You’d have THOUGHT it was the LAST Saturday before Christmas instead of the FOURTH Saturday based on the crowd at Costco!  Sheesh!

Speaking of the Fourth Saturday before Christmas (see how I did that?) – I made a fun book-fold Christmas card for last night’s edition of my Video Series.  I capitalized that so you’d know how cool it was! 😎 This one featured some Traditions of St. Nick DSP – cut with a NEW goodie – the Perennial Postage Dies (which you can get in January!) – and a few sentiments and images from the retiring Saint Nicholas bundle.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one was inspired by the sketch challenge at the Global Design Project this week!

A book-fold is one of my go-to fun folds – it’s super easy and it lets me play with a square card without actually MAKING a square card!

I started with a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock that, using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool, I scored on the long side at 5 1/2″ and again at 6 3/4″.

I folded the 5 1/2” score line as a “mountain” – so….you know, ”regular”! – and at the 6 3/4” score in the opposite direction.  Topographically speaking, that would be a “valley” fold!

Using Liquid Glue between the 5 1/2” and 6 3/4” score lines, I adhered the front of the card base to the back – just in that 1 1/4” area. This made the “book” or “side” fold.

And from there – it’s all decorating!  Easy and also peasy!

For the front – I matted two pieces of Mossy Meadow paper from the Traditions of St. Nick DSP (an online exclusive product) on Distressed Gold Specialty Paper mats. Then I adhered them both to the front panels of the card with Liquid Glue.

I pulled out the Perennial Postage dies (these are NEW in the upcoming Jan – Apr 2024 Mini Catalog and…you COULD buy them right now!).  Using the largest of the SQUARE dies in the set, I cut out four postage “stamps”.  These are adhered to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I used the die from the Saint Nicholas Die set to cut out a Santa right from the Traditions of St. Nick DSP.  I adhered him with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped a Saint Nicholas sentiment in Cherry Cobbler.  Then I adhered it to a Distressed Gold mat.

Okay – don’t be a-feared!  This is where I pulled out my Paper Snips and did a little fussy cutting!  I needed trees – so I cut a few from the Traditions of St. Nick DSP!! 🤷‍♀️

I adhered one of the trees to the card front with Liquid Glue. Then I popped the matted sentiment in place with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Using a combination of Dimensionals and Liquid Glue, I adhered the second and third fussy cut trees.

I wrapped some gold Simply Elegant trim twice around the book fold panel – securing it in the front with a Glue Dot – and tied a simple bow.

A flurry of Festive Pearls in red, silver and gold finished off the card front!

On the inside, I stamped a second Saint Nicholas sentiment in Cherry Cobbler on a Basic White panel.  In the corner, I adhered another couple of fussy cut DSP trees with Liquid Glue.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Distressed Gold Specialty Paper mat and into the card base and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got another fussy cut DSP tree on the front (if this worries you, go ahead and leave it off!)…

…and more of the Traditions of St. Nick on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Oh – this old-fashioned look is SO pretty, isn’t it?  That Traditions of St. Nick DSP sets a perfect vintage tone and the sentiment fonts in the coordinating Saint Nicholas stamp set pairs with it perfectly!  And I LOVE when dies will cut out DSP images, don’t you?!  Saint Nicholas is RETIRING soon – and is already in “when it’s gone it’s gone” mode so…be SURE to grab it if you don’t have it already.  The Perennial Postage Dies – coming soon to you! – are…going to be a staple on my desk FOR SURE!!  I know you’re going to be so happy to get it!

Such a sweet card! Love the layout and the Santa die cut from the designer paper is awesome! Cute fluffy ears too! 🙂

  2. Great video last night. Love this card.
Finn’s friend could be my neighbor’s dog, Kalvin, who has sort of adopted me. He comes over all the time and from the angle of the photo, could be Kalvin. Gotta love a dog who adopts you.

Yes – they love you the best!! Glad you like the card – and give that adoptee a pet for me! 🙂
