Stampin’ Up! Soft Seedlings Joseph’s Coat Card with Video Tutorial

Good morning, y’all!  Hope your weekend is going well!  We’re sort of laying low – but…the shelves are bare of pumpkin for the man so….it’s off to Wally today for sure! 😳

There’s a really cool coloring technique called Joseph’s Coat, which is a sort of emboss resist technique that happens to be really perfect for Fall cards!  I mean – it’s good for a LOT of card types – but…Fall is my fave for using it!  That’s what I did for today’s card, using the Soft Seedlings stamp set.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from the Global Design Project sketch this week.

I also played along with this week’s Tic-Tac-Toe challenge. I went across the diagonal (Fall Floral – Leaves/Trees – Metallic).

I showed how to do this on my YouTube video last night – so if you were able to watch I appreciate it.  If not – or you’d like to watch again! – here’s the link to it in on my YouTube channel!

Joseph’s Coat is really easy to do!  I started by using Blending Brushes to brush color onto a Very Vanilla card panel.  There’s not a lot of rhyme or reason to it – but try to not overlap the color too much so that it doesn’t get all muddied up.  I used Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry and Cajun Craze.

I used my Heat Tool on low to make sure all the ink was good and dry, then rubbed the panel with my Embossing Buddy.

Then I stamped the large leaf image in Soft Seedlings in Versamark Ink all over the panel.

I sprinkled Clear Embossing Powder all over the panel and flicked off all the excess – then heated it with the high setting of my Heat Tool.

When the embossing powder had cooled – I used a Blending Brush to add Early Espresso Ink all over the panel.

You want to add as much ink as possible – cuz you really want the NON-embossed portions to be quite dark (and cover up the underlying ink colors!).

When I had it as dark as I wanted, I wiped the whole panel off with a dry paper towel – which removed the ink from the embossed sections and made those leaves POP!!

I adhered the panel to an Early Espresso mat using Liquid Glue.

I used Stampin’ Seal + to add a couple loops of Early Espresso 1/4″ Faux Suede Trim.  Then I adhered a Textural Element in place with Liquid Glue.

I stamped the Soft Seedlings sentiment in Cajun Craze on a piece of Very Vanilla and cut it out with a Stylish Shapes label die.

I adhered the sentiment with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals, added some Rustic Metallic Adhesive-Backed Dots and the card front was done.

On the inside, I stamped a second Soft Seedlings sentiment in Cajun Craze on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock.  I used Blending Brushes to ink up the large leaf in Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie and Crushed Curry, then stamped it in the corner.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to an Early Espresso mat and into my Thick Very Vanilla card base, popped the card front on with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got the Soft Seedlings leaf on the front…

…and again on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Fun, right!?  How many cards and stamp sets can you think of that would be awesome done in the Joseph’s Coat technique?!  I am betting a few!  The Soft Seedlings set is perfect for this technique – and resulted in a gorgeous Fall card! 🙂

  6. That technique certainly yields a gorgeous result, Mary, especially in your expert hands! I don’t believe I’ve actually used that specific technique during all my years of ink blending but now I’m definitely inspired to do so! Thanks so much for joining us at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge this week!
