Stampin’ Up! Peace to You and Christmas Lights Christmas Card

Good morning and Happy Hawwwmp Day, y’all!  We’re having a bit of a….week.  Epic storm on Monday night – and lightning hit our well house.  And set it on fire.  And knocked out the water.  And scared me sorta silly! 😳😳😳  So – we spent last night at a hotel and may be doing the same tonight.  We DO have AC (thank you God) but…no water.   In July.  In Georgia.  Nope nope nope. This spoiled first-worlder NEEDS her shower! 😉

In the midst of the chaos – while waiting for one contractor after another to come assess the damage and give us estimates (both of the $$ and -more importantly the TIMELINE!) I put together a soft and pretty Christmas card for you!  It showcases the Peace To You stamp set and a teensy snowflake image from the Christmas Lights stamp set.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from the Global Design Project sketch challenge this week.

…and the color palette is from the TGIF Color Challenge.

I started with a piece of Subtles 6″ x 6″ DSP in Soft Sea Foam that I matted on Blushing Bride for the card front.

Next, I adhered two Wonderful Snowflakes – YES, they’re back!!  whoo-hoo!! – to the card front with Liquid Glue.

On a piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock, I used my Stamparatus to stamp the sweet snowy church from Peace to You in Versamark Ink.  Then I sprinkled it with White Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool.

When the embossing powder had cooled, I used my Paper Snips to cut out the image.

I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the image to the card front.

On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped the Peace to You sentiment in Blushing Bride.  Then I cut it out with a narrow banner die from the Stylish Shapes die set.

I used a Stampin’ Dimensional and some Liquid Glue to adhere the sentiment to the card front.

Finally I added some Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels, and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Peace to You in Blushing Bride on a Basic White panel.  Next to the sentiment, I stamped the tiny snowflakes image from Christmas Lights in Soft Sea Foam ink.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Blushing Bride mat and into my Smoky Slate card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Basic White Medium Envelope got more of the Christmas Lights snowflakes in Soft Sea Foam on the front…

…and more of the Soft Sea Foam Subtles 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love the simplicity of the two focal images and the sentiments in Peace to You – they’re simply perfect for the season!  And there’s WAY more to the Christmas Lights set than the sweet little snowflakes I’ve used here and you’re going to be happy you have it!

Want to see how this one came together?  I did a super quick video of it and you can see that right HERE!

I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

So – I might have mentioned that we had one heckuva a storm on Monday night.

With lightning like crazy.

Like – wrath of GOD stuff.

And we ended up with a fire in our well house.  And it was terrifying.

And I discovered – as I was making a mad dash up the driveway to open the gate for the fire trucks – we ALSO had a ginormous tree down – right smack dab across the driveway.  Fortunately the barn road – the one the trucks REALLY needed to take – was clear!

Skip to later that day.  Fire out.  Water out.  Tree…still very much down.

Finn and I walked up to inspect the damage.

Finn confirms that the tree is, in fact, blocking the driveway!

He’s pretty observant, huh?!? 😉

  1. Your card is simply stunning Mary! The non-traditional colors are perfect! Definitely a scary storm and fire, yikes!! So glad you, Wayne, Finn and the ponies are all okay. Hopefully the water will be back on soon!

    • stampsnlingers

      Yes, ma’am – all’s finally well. See what I did there?! 😎

  2. Love the card design and colors. By staying in the hotel, Finny probably thinks he’s on his way to visit Abby and Gram again 😉 Hope the contractors give you a break. I’ll add keeping your sanity to my list of requests for you/Wayne, and calmness for the girls and boy.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Karen – all the prayers came thru – water is back – speding tonight at home! whoo-hoo!! 🙂

  3. Susan K

Love your sweet card! I’d totally overlooked that stamp set. TFS Can’t believe you could make a card, much less a video, with all that going on at your house! What concentration! Hope a good contractor comes through for you soon! 🙏

    • stampsnlingers

We’re back in business – and yes we had a WONDERFUL well contractor! Thank you so much, Susan! 🙂

  4. Faith Simpson

Oh my goodness, Mary…..how horribly scary!! and miserable….and I thought 4th of July was terrible here just with the noise and fireworks over the house until midnight. I worried about fire too……but it didn’t happen. Thank God the fire wasn’t your house!! I can’t even imagine a storm like you had!!
Prayers for you to get water back asap!!

    • stampsnlingers

Yeah – we for sure thought the fireworks were over when the human-made ones quit that evening! God had other plans, though! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Thank you so much, Faith! 🙂

  5. Judi Hartbarger

MD, that scared me just reading about it, and seeing the photo-especially since it’s been so dry. Very glad that D family is safe. Hopefully making the beautiful card gave you a little calm in the madness. I find that stamping sometimes makes the gloom fall away when you are surrounded by color and focused on design. Take care!

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – creating something makes you think about IT and get out of your head about all the stuff going on! We’re lucky in that everything here is really wet – and the big garden shed helped to isolate the fire. Well – we were really very fortunate in MANY ways! Thanks so much, Judi! 🙂

  6. Your card is absolutely stunning, Mary! The image, color choices…all of it!

I hope you all are recovering from the storm damage as best you can! Really scary stuff. Sending prayers your way! Finn is definitely on top of things…such a good boy! 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – he’s a heckuva site foreman, for sure!! Thank you so much, Carol! 🙂

  7. Karen Lang

Holy Moly that was some storm. Do you have to rebuild the well house?? What did it do….blow out the water pump?? That definitely would have scared the be-jeebers out of me!! Now that is some fireworks!! Hope you are up & running very soon.

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – destroyed the pump. Set the well house on fire. Destroyed pretty much everything. Rebuild in progress – the well company comes tomorrow – YEAH!! 🙂

  8. Pat C.

Mary, OMG! Your new well house that Wayne worked so hard to build! Thank goodness it wasn’t your home (or the barn!) that caught on fire!
Pretty card. I’ve had my eye on that set, am debating on whether or not to use it for my Christmas cards this year. 🤷‍♀️

    • stampsnlingers

Fortunately the shed that he built was untouched – that dimensional lumber takes a LONG time to heat to the point where it will flame. Even the fire chief was impressed by the integrity of the building! So it is safe (whew!!). That would have hurt, for sure! I think this would be a beautiful set for your Christmas cards, for sure! Thank you so much, Pat! 🙂

  9. Kate

😳😳😳. A sight we pray to never see. 🙏🙏🙏 it is over and issues left in its wake quickly resolved.

  10. Beth Kist

So glad you are all safe. I am amazed you had the calmness to create a card. Hope everything is repaired quickly so life can get back to normal!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Beth – it was a case of doing “normal” stuff. My usefulness is in the logistics of getting things done – and that comes in fits and starts!

  11. Darla S

Oh my goodness Mary! I’m glad to hear there wasn’t more damage and everyone’s okay. How scary!! That is one of my biggest fears when we have storms here in NW Arkansas. We have some pretty terrible lightning in them. And we have a very tall pitched roof, which doesn’t pair well with bad storms. Hope you get all sorted out here soon.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Darla – we’re slogging thru the process. We’re fortunate it wasn’t any worse! Be careful in those Arkansas storms! 🙁

  12. Maryanne Willequer

Stamping sure has a way of removing us from the craziness of our lives and giving us a pocket of peace, doesn’t it? I am so sorry to hear you were adversely affected by the terrible storm. I am thankful that you, Wayne, and all the babies weren’t hurt.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Maryanne – Yep, it’s a pain and it was very scary -but..it could have been SO much worse!! 🙂

  13. Gerri K

OMG Mary!! How frightening! Thank God none of you were hurt. That storm must have been a whopper. We live in the New Jersey Pinelands and fire is a big concern here. Hope all gets repaired quickly and without any problems.

    • Gerri K

Also, your card is beautiful! I love that set.

      • stampsnlingers

        Thank you so much! 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Fire is too scary!! And that storm was, indeed, a whopper! Thanks very much, Gerri! 🙂

  14. Karen Andrews

Wow Mary. I’m just now having a chance to catch up on email.
I’m so sorry to hear this. Your property is gorgeous. Thankfully things can be rebuilt and water restored.
Many blessings to you and Wayne as you go through this unwanted journey.
You educated me as I have no idea what a well- house is being a city girl and all.

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – well, when we bought the place – the well was just in that concrete culvert – with a big concrete cover on it. Wayne built the well house over the top so that it could be insulated. So wells come in all sorts of “looks” – and they’re kind of nice to have. Unless the power goes out and then it’s less nice (cuz they don’t work and then neither does the water!). And yes – things can be rebuilt – and water IS restored, so…all is well again! Thanks so much, Karen! 🙂

  15. Brenda Jaques

Hi Mary I am just reading this. So glad you are all safe! What a storm! Glad to hear you are about to get water back and no damage to your home or your hubby, you or Finn!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Brenda – appreciate that! 🙂
