Stampin’ Up! Smooth Sailing Home with Video Tutorial

Hey, y’all – how’s the weekend going?  We had rain yesterday – which we rather desperately needed.  And it cooled it down for a bit – sort of like a swamp cooler does – cooler AND more humid! 🙂  But the plants and veggies were all mostly glad for a drink – and I was glad they got one that I didn’t have to give them!

So – if you were able to join me yesterday for my Facebook Live, I sure appreciate you spending part of your weekend with me!  If not, but you’d like to watch the replay to see how to make this card, here ’tis! Oh – and I DID also share some sneak peeks of the goodies from the Jul – Dec 2021 Mini Catalog that I got while we were in Maui.  Just sayin’!

I pulled out the Sailing Home stamp set with its coordinating Smooth Sailing Dies to make this nautically-themed, patriotic thank you card!  And the Simply Elegant Specialty DSP – kind of unexpectedly –  works perfectly.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from the sketch challenge over at Sunday Stamps.

Several of the elements were incorporated due to the Inspo List at Festive Friday.  I got stripes, circles, bright colors, and embossing!

The whole theme was inspired by the photo at The Card Concept – I’d say this is Clean and Layered!

I started with a piece of Basic Gray paper from the Simply Elegant Specialty DSP that I matted on Smoky Slate for the card front.  Then I embossed a Basic White panel in the checkered folder from the Checks & Dots Embossing Folders, and matted it on Smoky Slate.

I wrapped two lengths of the Real Red ribbon from the Playful Pets Twine Combo around the panel – adhering them in the back with Glue Dots.  Then I popped the panel onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I cut a Night of Navy and a Real Red square and embossed both of them with a die from the Stitched With Whimsy Die set.

I cut a Basic White wheel with the Smooth Sailing die and popped it onto the Real Red square with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On another piece of Basic White, I stamped the Sailing Home anchor image in Night of Navy and cut it with its die from Smooth Sailing.  Then I popped it onto the Night of Navy square.

I stamped the Sailing Home sentiment in Real Red on a strip of Basic White and snipped banner ends with my Paper Snips.  Then I popped it over the ribbon with Dimensionals.  Hint: in the video, I used Night of Navy for the sentiment – and it looks really cool, too! 🙂

I added a few gold Metallic Pearls and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped the smaller sailboat image from Sailing Home in Night of Navy on a Basic White panel.  Over the top, I added the seagulls image in Smoky Slate.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Smoky Slate mat and into my Basic Gray card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Night of Navy sailboat and Smoky Slate seagulls on the front…

…and more of the Simply Elegant Specialty DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love the crisp, nautical look of this card, don’t you?  The Sailing Home set, with the matching Smooth Sailing Dies is perfect for masculine cards, but also works great for cards for ANYone who is a fan of the sea!  And the Simply Elegant Specialty DSP is so versatile – subtle elegance on one side and a little more oomph on the other with the pretty embossed foil accents!

I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

I’ll never admit to taking a little nap right after we eat dinner.

That’s what “old” people do and even though I am getting ready to kick down the “60” door (how the HECK did that happen anyway?!?) – I am not quite ready to acknowledge it and also – it’s just a number, right?  And…60 is the new 40.  And all that yada yada. 😉

So – instead of calling it a nap, I’ll do like my friend Paul used to do and call it…”pre-sleeping”.

The other night when I finished my pre-sleeping session, I roused myself to discover I’d been busted.

Time to feed the ponies, Mom!
