Stampin’ Up! Brilliant Wings and a Welcoming Window Fun Fold with Video Tutorial

Good morning and happy Friday!  Sale-A-Bration is SOOO close to being over!  If there are still some of the free goodies you’re wanting – now’s the time!  And – if you’ve given any thought at all to joining the SU! team – THIS is an awesome time to do it!  The wonderful Starter Kit PLUS 200 FREE sheets of brand new Designer Series Paper!  Check out all the benefits of joining right here – then give me a holler and let’s get you hooked up! 🙂

I’ve also got my Butterfly Bouquet Special Bundle – with some add-ons! – available for you to order.  Check it out down below! 🙂

On to the business at hand! If you were able to join me for my YouTube live yesterday, I appreciate you spending part of your day with me.  If not, here’s the replay!

I made an “impossible” card for you on this one – yep, it’s literally called an Impossible Fold.  But it’s totally possible! 🙂  My friend and teammate, Terry Lynn Bright, made one the other day and shared it on her site – and made me remember how much I like this fold!  For this particular one, I took the opportunity to showcase some new Butterfly Bijou 6″ x 6″ DSP and the stunning Brilliant Wings dies – both coming next week (and available to order with me right now in a money-saving bundle!).  Welcoming Windows provided a sentiment and some pretty florals.  Take a look-see:

The color palette is from the Color Throwdown challenge this week!

I started with a piece of Calypso Coral paper from the Butterfly Bijou DSP pack and adhered it to a Blushing Bride base with Liquid Glue.  That’s the base of the card right there!

Next, I made the Impossible Fold from a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock (I used Misty Moonlight in the video!).  I scored it and cut as shown on the video and this template…

By holding the left side of the cut cardstock and “twisting” the right side, I created the actual fold.  It’s easier to see what the heck I’m talking about on the video! 🙂

Using my Stampin’ Trimmer again, I cut two 2 1/2″ x 3 7/8″ pieces of non-directional (meaning it doesn’t matter how to use them – there’s no right-side-up or down – which means both these cuts are identical) Butterfly Bijou DSP according to this template.

I adhered my L-shaped pieces to the card front with Liquid Glue.

The sentiment, from the Welcoming Window stamp set, is stamped in Magenta Madness on the right side of a piece of Basic White cardstock.  Then I added the little fluer-de-do corner in Bermuda Bay.  I adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I used a Magenta Madness and Blushing Bride butterfly cut from a piece of Butterfly Bijou 6″ x 6″ DSP with the large die in the Brilliant Wings die set.  It’s adhered to the sentiment panel with Liquid Glue.  Tip – be sure that it’s high enough that the bottom of the wing doesn’t interfere with the pop-up sentiment panel.

I cut a Vellum cardstock butterfly with one of the detailed dies in Brilliant Wings and adhered it with my Fine Tip Glue Pen.

Finally – I colored two Pearl Basic Jewels with my Dark Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blend and added them to the sentiment panel.

On the back, I stamped the vase from Welcoming Window in Calypso Coral on a Basic White panel.  Then I added the leaves image in Bermuda Bay and the flowers in Magenta Madness.  The fleur-de-doo corner is there in Bermuda Bay.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Bermuda Bay mat and onto the back of the card base and the card was done.

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Welcoming Window floral arrangement and the fleur-de-do on the front…

…and more of the Butterfly Bijou 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  How fun is this fold?!?  It looks – literally! – impossible, but…now you know that it is not!  The new Butterfly Bouquet with it’s wunnermus Brilliant Wings die set is a perfect choice – and will let you do all sorts of color combinations!  In the video – I replaced Bermuda Bay with Misty Moonlight…

Cool, cool paper, y’all!  And the fact that the dies cut the butterflies right from the DSP is…amazeballs!!

I also love the sweet florals and sentiments in the Welcoming Window stamp set, don’t you??

I hope you like!!

If you’d like to recreate this card, all the products and card cuts are listed below!

Finn Fan Fix

My lap is a pretty popular spot in the evening.

Katy wants on – Finn wants on….

Sometimes Katy lets Finn sit right by her so she can rub her face on his face.  Sometimes he licks her ear.

Other times – they just agree to not even look at each other, and just watch a little television.

Family life!

  1. Pretty card Mary! Love those butterflies! Yeah, Finn and Katy are just like kids…only rather than head rubbing and ear licking it would be punching and kicking. 😉

  2. Susan K

Such a fun and pretty card. I might get brave enough to try one sometime! (Does it pop back up after being in the envelope through the mail?)
Family life is fun too. Hope Katy is feeling okay.

    • stampsnlingers

Hey Susan – it’s plenty easy enough for you to do! I suppose if it took two months to arrive it might need a little coaxing to stand up – but otherwise…. 🙂 Thanks very much, my friend!

  3. They are quite the family! Looks like they are actually watching.
Lovely card. My Butterflies came Wednesday and I didn’t get to watch yesterday as I had 2 jobs to do and errand to run so was gone all day. However, I did watch the video this morning, and it is really easy to make and not impossible at all. Thanks for the lesson.

    • stampsnlingers

Yeah – glad you were able to watch and hope you’ll make one yourself! Thanks very much, Julie. And yes – they WERE watching! 🙂

  4. Faith Simpson

Hi Mary…..great card…..so fun to see how the ‘impossible’ happens!!
Finn and Katy are sweet siblings….I guess Finn really does realize he can’t fit on your lap except maybe just arms and face. a kitty on the lap feels so good.

  5. Angie Latham

Love your impossible fold card – you make it look sooo easy! I’ll let you know, after I CASE it! LOL
I believe I heard you mention that you were adding a raised asparagus bed? I have a bunch of raised beds and built my asparagus bed about 10 years ago. I’ve got a couple of tips. 🙂 Only plant sterile asparagus, because a bed will only hold so much. After you harvest the asparagus, you let the plants grow and “frond out.” They get really tall and want to flop over, outside of the bed. We cut two pieces of cattle fence (tall, strong with large holes) to fit on the two long sides. We then tie rope across the two short ends. This has been enough to contain the tall asparagus. Hope that’s not clear as mud! 🙂 We also have to wrap chicken wire around the bed, so the rabbits don’t eat it up. We live in Ohio, but plant the early beds in two weeks – can’t wait!!!

Hey Angie – thanks for the advice. I’ll remember the cow panel idea – we’ve got horse panel that will work! Sterile plants…hmmm. I got Martha Washington and Jersey Giant….I think the Jerseys are all male but the MW is mixed. Might go exchange for more of the Jerseys….thank you for that! Looking forward to a few years down the road when we can really get a solid harvest. Thanks again! And…let me know how the CASE goes!! 🙂

      • Angie Latham

Yeah, you don’t want those females! Not only will they fill up your bed, but they will reseed everywhere around your grounds – ask me how I know! I did order all male, but a female must have slipped in – it’s been a fight. When you see plants with red berries in the fall, yank them up! 🙂

      • stampsnlingers

Headed to see if we can exchange them for more Jerseys tomorrow – thank you for the advice, Angie! 🙂
