Stampin’ Up! You Always Deliver Sunshine for The Paper Players

Hey y’all – it’s Sunday, which means I’ve got another fun challenge for you from the Paper Players – it’s a theme challenge from our clever Joanne this week and it’ll for sure jump-start your creative mojo!  I hope you’ll come and play along.  🙂

If you were able to join me yesterday for my Facebook Live video, I appreciate you spending some of your weekend with me!  If you weren’t able to watch the live version, but you’d like to see the replay on YouTube…here ’tis!

Our theme this week – and yours, too, if you come to play – is Make You Smile.  I know that for so many of us, the sight of the Big Brown Truck pulling up ALWAYS make us smile (I know it does for me!).  So – I pulled out the retiring You Always Deliver stamp set.  And, since I alway smile at a good pun or cute sentiment – I used one of the cute sentiments from the Share Sunshine COVID-19 Digital download.  Take a look-see:

And here’s this week’s Paper Players theme challenge!  Hope you’ll join the fun and show us your projects!  I can’t wait to see what you create!  🙂

I pulled my layout from the Global Design Project sketch this week.

I decided this would be a great card to try out the Scrappy Strip technique that I learned from the wunnermus Bruno Bertucci (yes – of the Kylie/Bruno super-duo!!).

I started with a larger-than-I-needed piece of Basic Black cardstock to create the card front.  Using Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Early Espresso and Sahara Sand paper from the Neutrals 6″ x 6″ DSP (which I just now at this very moment realized is SOLD OUT – I’m so sorry!), I adhered the strips to the panel with Liquid Glue.  I eye-balled the spacing and used three of each color to create to ombre effect of the sketch!

Once I had all the strips where they belonged, I used my Paper Trimmer to cut the panel down to size. Then I adhered it onto a Basic Black mat.

I tied a loose figure-eight from a doubled up length of the 3/16″ Braided Linen Trim and adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.

On a piece of Whisper White, I stamped the You Always Deliver delivery dude in Tuxedo Black and colored him with my Soft Suede and Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend Combos.  I added the heart image in Poppy Parade – and cut him with an oval Stitched Shapes Die.

Using the Share Sunshine PDF that I downloaded (get yours right here!), I printed the page I wanted on a piece of Whisper White.  Then I used a Stitched Rectangle Die to cut out the Black version of the fun sentiment I wanted.  I decided it needed another heart, so I used the Poppy Parade Stampin’ Write Marker to color one onto the die cut.

I popped the two die cuts onto the card front – over the Linen Trim – with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.  And the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped the perfectly perfect sentiment from You Always Deliver in Tuxedo Black on a Whisper White panel.  In the corner, I added the sweet pooch from the set in Tuxedo Black and colored him in Crumb Cake and Soft Suede.  I added some more hearts in Poppy Parade.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Basic Black Mat and into my Poppy Parade card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another You Always Deliver pupper and hearts on the front…

…and some Soft Suede paper on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  It’s kind of a shame that the You Always Deliver is going away – cuz…it SO represents us as crafters, doesn’t it?? Without the guy in the big brown truck….sigh.  No big brown boxes of Stampin’ Up! goodies to see arrive in the driveway!

I hope you like!

If you want to recreate this card – all the Stampin’ Up! products you need are listed down below along with the card cuts!

Finn Fan Fix

So – as the child of an Air Force pilot, Finn was….disappointed…to not get to go with us yesterday!

We went to Costco.  Cuz…after looking at the planned flight path for the Thunderbirds/Blue Angels joint fly-over, it was pretty obvious we’d never even see them from here.  But – we knew we’d be shopping after – and…too hot for fur kids! 🙁

It turned out we were far from the only ones there!

This is what AirShows-in-the-Time-of-COVID-19 look like, I guess!

We did have some special spectators – I was happy to see them and get a chance to thank them for what they do for us every day.

As they drove in – everyone got out of their cars and gave them a standing ovation.  There might have been some whoo-hooing going on, too!

They had AWESOME seats!!

Finally – after I had a chance to run into Costco to get a couple of lavender plant/trees – here they came!!

They actually made two passes….to be honest, thru the camera, I could never find the Thunderbirds.  Their F-16’s are predominantly white and were very very hard to see in the bright afternoon sun – and thru the camera?  Nope.

Also?  Only the Angels – in their Navy Blue livery – were easily visible.   They’re also the only part of the formation that popped smoke on their passes.

On the second pass, I tried to take some video.

But…that really didn’t work out at all…. 🙁

It was really cool to see them – it’s almost unheard of for both teams to fly together like this, so…pretty amazing to see! And they quite obviously took great pains to give as many folks in the metro area a chance to see them as they could.  Kudos and a virtual salute to our men and women in the skty

Finn?

Well.  HE was upside down, legs akimbo – sawing logs when we got home.  I guess the movie I left running wasn’t interesting enough to keep him awake!!

My fierce guard dog…

  1. Such a fun card! Love the Hawaiian one from the video too. 🙂 Awesome that you got to see the flyover! Poor Finn, he does look pretty distraught over missing out on the trip. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

I know – I think it’s my fave. It’s the shirt!! Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  2. TFS Mary. Loved seeing the pictures of the Blue Angels and also the firefighters. Hats off to both of them. That was great!!!

    • stampsnlingers

It really was. Thanks, Barbara! 🙂

  3. I love this card, Mary. The Covid-19 phrases are great with it. I especially like the ombre strips used on the background.

    • stampsnlingers

      Thanks, Leslie – it’s a fun technique!! 🙂

  4. So glad you had such a fun day! Your card is really cute. I haven’t tried that technique yet.

    • stampsnlingers

We did! Thanks so much – hope you’re enjoying the vacay, Karen! 🙂

  5. Your little delivery guy (and the pup inside) was a fun way to interpret the challenge, very clever! I especially like the background! We had the flyover about 20 miles away from us but we did not venture out to see it, but I heard it was spectacular!

    • stampsnlingers

It was pretty amazing – and a wonderful thing for them to do for the folks working so very hard right now!! Thanks, LeAnne! 🙂

  6. Who doesn’t love the arrival of the man in brown! Great mix of image and sentiment and I love how you arranged the DSP in the background. Fabulous card, Mary

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – always good for a smile! Thanks, Jaydee! 🙂

  7. LOL..cute…and so timely!!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks – and yes – this fun set is FULL of perfect-for-the-times sentiments!! 🙂

  8. Poor Finn, left behind….again! However, he probably realizes you have his best interests at hear.
Cute card, and the one you did in the video with the tropical DSP is just as nice. I’d rather fussy cut than cut all those strips and glue them on! I did set my alarm, but was outside working and the phone was inside! DUH!

    • stampsnlingers

It’s the time of year to be outside working, for sure!! Glad you were able to watch the replay. The strip cutting is a little drudge-y, but..not very hard! Thanks so much, Julie – and yes. WAAAY too hot already for fur-kids to wait in the car. 🙂

  9. Oh yes, the sound of that brown truck pulling up always brings a smile to my face! Such a fun card, Mary! Love how you used the digital sentiment with this stamp set and the little pupper inside the card is a sweet touch. Looks like you had a fun day and got some awesome photos, too. Poor Finn, although he doesn’t seem to look like he was TOO bothered by staying at home.

    • stampsnlingers

No – he sort of just rolls with the flow. We’re really lucky that he’s the awesome dog that he is! Thanks so much, Anne Marie! 🙂

  10. Love your ombre background!

  11. Stef Perry

Very clever pairing of the sentiment and the guy in brown! Isn’t it funny how expecting a package with goodies elicits such excitement? The background treatment looks great as well. So glad you got to catch the flyover in the Costco parking lot. A number of years ago when living in Oregon, I attended the annual Airshow and had the opportunity to see both the Blue Angels (2x) and the Thunderbirds. Oh my, they never, ever failed to impress!

    • stampsnlingers

No – they’re pretty darned cool, for sure. And serious pilots. Serious. Glad that you got to see them, Stef! Thanks so much – I’m waiting for the Brown Truck tomorrow morning – whoo-hoo!! 🙂

  12. Joanne James

Yes there is nothing like the man in brown to raise a smile Mary, that’s for sure!! Love your combo with that sentiment – very topical!! Great flypast photos too – always great to catch a view like this! Sometimes the Red Arrows practice over my son’s school playing fields and it has been known to completely stop a game of cricket as we stand in awe of their air acrobatics!

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – they’re amazing to watch! From the ground it looks so easy! Thanks so much, Joanne!!

  13. Ann Wilcox Schach

Is this not one of the funnest cards ever!!! From the ombre background to the hilarious sentiment, this card will definitely bring a smile to anyone’s face!!!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Ann! Appreciate you taking time to come by! 🙂

  14. Mary, I just love the background you created for our friend the delivery man! I always makes me smile when he pulls in my driveway! Such a fun card! Wasn’t the fly over amazing! We were blessed to see it, too!

    • stampsnlingers

Yes it was! I’m glad you got to see it, Claire. Thanks so much! 🙂
