Stampin’ Up! Bold and Beautifully Braided Video Tutorial for The Paper Players

Hey y’all – it’s Sunday, which means I’ve got another fun challenge for you from the Paper Players – it’s a theme challenge (heat embossing!)- to help jump-start your creative mojo this week!  I hope you’ll come and play along.  🙂

If you were able to join me last night for my Facebook Live video, I appreciate you spending some of your weekend with me!  If not, but you’d like to see the replay on YouTube…here ’tis!

I saw a card out on the interwebs somewhere…can’t for the life of me find it again 🙁 ….that I loved.  So…I decided to try the technique today and share it with you!  Turns out – it’s easy.  My version uses gold heat embossed images from the Beautifully Braided stamp set.  Take a look-see:

And here’s this week’s Paper Players theme challenge!  Join the fun and show us your projects!  I can’t wait to see what you create!  🙂

And – I used colors inspired by this week’s FabFriday challenge.

I started with a piece of Basic Black cardstock and, using my Stamparatus, I stamped the big flower image from Beautifully Braided in Versamark Ink.  Then I sprinkled it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up with my Heat Tool.  I did the exact same thing on a piece of Whisper White.

I matted the black panel on Petal Pink cardstock to create the card front.  Then I wrapped a piece of Rococo Rose 1/2″ Gathered Ribbon, securing it with a little SNAIL on the front and in the back with Glue Dots.

On the Whisper White images, I carefully colored the flowers with my Dark Mint Macaron Stampin’ Blend.  HINT:  be careful – the alcohol ink will react with the embossing – so color carefully and avoid the embossed portions as much as you can!  With my Light Pretty Peacock Blend, I colored a few strips here and there.

Using my Paper Snips, I fussy cut the flowers.

To adhere the colored flowers to the card front, I used Black Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals on the tops of the flowers and a dab of Liquid Glue at the bottom.  When I stuck each flower on – the top is popped up and the base is flat to the card front.

On a seperate piece of Basic Black, I stamped the sentiment from Beautifully Braided in Versamark, sprinkled it with Shimmer White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat set it.  When it was cool, I cut it out with a label die from the Stitched So Sweetly die set.

I popped the sentiment onto the card front with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added some Pretty Peacock Rhinestones from the Noble Peacock Rhinestone pack and the card front was done!

On the inside, I added a second sentiment from Beautifully Braided in Rococo Rose on a Whisper White panel.  In the corner, I again heat embossed part of the flower.  It’s colored with the Dark Mint Macaron and Light Pretty Peacock Blends.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Petal Pink mat and into my Rococo Rose card base, popped the card front on with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more embossed and colored flowers on the front…

…and some Rococo Rose paper from the 2019-2021 In Color 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila! The flower image in Beautifully Braided is so fun and different, isn’t it?  It looks exotic and I love how it turned out embossed against the black.  Is it just me or does this look like a flower you might find on Pandora from Avatar?  😉  Just sayin!

I hope you like!

  1. Such a pretty card! Love the colors and your embossing on the black card stock is perfect! Hmmm…yep, Finn does seem to be conveying his message with no words today. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

Funny how good they are at doing that, isn’t it?? Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  2. Susan K

How gorgeous. I loved it before I watched the video and saw how you popped up only one side–what dimension it gives! And how shiny it is. The bling adds that extra zing.I hadn’t seen anything that made we want this stamp set…until now. Drat you!
Typical male expression on Finny’s face. Getting warmer makes us all want to be outside more…if the rain stays away. TFS.

    • stampsnlingers

LOL! Yep – it’s a flyover stamp set, for sure!! Thanks so much, Susan! 🙂

  3. Heather Heroldt

Oh wow, Mary – BEAUTIFUL! This is just so gorgeous against the black – superb fussy cut job! Thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Heather – I love how those flowers ended up looking against the black! Appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

  4. Hansi Brittain

Your card is gorgeous! The delicate colors and gold embossing against the lack background is so dramatic. Thank you for explaining how you did it.

    • stampsnlingers

So glad that you liked it! Thanks, Hansi! 🙂

  5. Very sharp card…love the black with those pretty colors!

  6. Gerri K

Well I missed the live edition but caught the video this morning. This card is beautiful!! I will definitely try this technique. The rhinestones really add the perfect touch.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Gerri! Love those Noble Peacock Rhinestones! 🙂

  7. Mary, this is gorgeous! I love the gold embossing on the black! Just WOW! This card certainly packs a big punch with this beautiful stamp set. I love the sentiment, too! I hope you have a wonderful week! XX

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Claire – and you, too! 🙂

  8. Stef Perry

Stunning design Mary with the gold on black and the fussy cut flowers! You rocked that color combo too. I had to laugh at the look Finn gave you…we had a doxie-beagle mix that thought she was a Great Dane, and stubborn as heck until she passed away at 22 years old. I KNOW that look LOL!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Stef! Sorry you lost your friend – they leave us too soon! And yes – they can speak so loudly without uttering a word! Thanks very much for the kind words on my card! 🙂

  9. Anne Marie Hile

Mary, you are a fussy-cutting rockstar! Wowza! I absolutely love how the embossed flowers pop on the black background and your color combo is beautiful. Just when I told myself I didn’t need this stamp set, here you are changing my mind. Such an enabler. Haha! Truly gorgeous! Finn sure looks like he was comfortable enjoying his time outside. Such a cutie!

    • stampsnlingers

He’s a cutie – that’s for sure. And as sweet as he is cute! Thanks so much, Anne Marie. This is sort of a fly-over stamp set – but it makes beautiful images! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  10. Joanne James

I’ve made a ton of cards with this stamp set and think it’s something of an unsung hero of the Spring mini so I was thrilled to see you use it this week and in a different way that I haven’t tried before. The coloured petals really stand out against the black and the heat ermbossing brings the whole thing together beautifully.

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – it’s a flyover for sure! But pretty when you get into using it! Thanks very much, Joanne! Appreciate you coming by! 🙂

  11. Such a stunning card! Your layered embossed image is fabulous!

  12. Absolutely stunning, Mary! The embossing “pops” off the black. I had not bought this stamp set, but I can tell you for certain that after seeing this card, it will be on my next order!!!

    • stampsnlingers

Awww – that’s sweet! Thanks very much, Ann! 🙂

  13. Ann Wilcox Schach

Absolutely stunning, Mary! The gold is so striking against the black. I had not purchased this set, but it is now on my list! LOVE this card!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Ann – it’s kind of a fun one! 🙂

  14. Debbie Perry

Mary, this is definitely a WOW card! I can’t wait to try this and want to do it in one of my classes. I just need to figure out how to get across to my students to be careful of using the bends with the embossed images. They don’t always pay attention to my instructions 🙂 . Have a great Sunday!

    • stampsnlingers

LOL! Good luck with that, Debbie! Might be one of those things they learn by doing! 😉 Thank you so much! 🙂
