Stampin’ Up! Playful Penguins Side by Side

Happy Friday!  Hope you’ve got a fun weekend planned.  And REALLY hoping that the weather is getting a little cooler where you are!

For today, I’ve got a sweet little card that I think would be great for anyone on your card list!  It uses the very nice DistINKtive stamp set – Playful Penguins – plus a couple of Annual Catalog background stamps.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one comes from the Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge this week…

And the could-be-masculine-real-easy color scheme is thanks to the TGIF color challenge!

I started by creating a fun background in Black and Merry Merlot using the Buffalo Check and Handwritten stamp sets. My Stamparatus played a key and starring role in this endeavor – plus my ever-present sticky notes!

I masked off part of a Merry Merlot panel and stamped one side with the Handwritten stamp in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Then I flipped the panel in the Stamparatus, re-positioned the sticky notes and stamped the Buffalo Check in Tuxedo Black.  The Stamparatus is PERFECT for this – cuz it lets you stamp and re-stamp as many times as you need to get the amount of color you want!  Pick up the sticky notes and….

Boom!

I matted the panel on Basic Black to create my card front.

Next up is a piece of Basic Black – cut with a Stitched Rectangle Die and adhered at an angle with Liquid Glue.

I once again employed the Stamparatus to stamp two of the totes-adorbs Playful Penguins in Tuxedo Black on a Very Vanilla panel.  I placed both stamps on the plate and stamped them at the same time.

Then I cut the image at an angle with a smaller Stitched Rectangle Die.  I used my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to add some “ice” under them (cuz – you know, Penguins don’t like….hover!). 🙂

I popped them onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment, from Playful Penguins, is stamped in Merry Merlot on a piece of Very Vanilla, cut with a Stitched Rectangle Die and adhered with Liquid Glue.  There’s a Mini Stampin’ Dimensional under the bottom right-hand corner to support the sentiment banner.

I stamped two scarves – one in Merry Merlot on Very Vanilla and one in Basic Black on Merry Merlot –  and fussy cut them.  Then I popped them onto their penguins with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added some black dots from the Monster Bash Enamel Shapes – and the card front was done!

On the inside, I added a second sentiment from Playful Penguins in Merry Merlot on a Very Vanilla panel.  Then I stamped the two penguins in the bottom corner!  Yes – used my Stamparatus again – I just moved the plate down a couple of hinges to put the image where I wanted it!

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Basic Black mat and into my Thick Very Vanilla card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

The front of my Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got more penguins on the front…

…and on the back.  I used my Stamparatus to lift the envelope flap so that I could stamp the image again – making it so it would all be there when the flap is raised up!  Thank you, Stamparatus! 🙂

Et Voila!  I love this Playful Penguins set – truth…wasn’t sure I would.  I mean…penguins are cute, but…c’mon – they’re no Australian Shepherd.  But – once I stamped the images (and they’re perfectly textured with just a quick stamp!) – and added the sentiments and accessories…I am hooked!  I think they’re just darling – and perfect for a wintery card!  I hope you like!

Cat on lap.

Dog on sofa.

Wrong on so many levels!

Sigh…Just going to sleep thru the injustice.

  1. Just ordered those penquins! Adorable card. Will be CASEing! Oh, the injustice! Poor Finn. 🙂 I see a piano in the background. Do you play?

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – his life is a never ending series of trials and heartache. I do not know how he survives! 😉 Play? Well – a thousand years ago I could. NOT sure I could now – and the poor thing is horribly out of tune! 🙁 Thanks so much, Julie! 🙂

  2. You’ve done it again…convinced me I need THIS stamp set! I have the Buffalo Check and the handwritten and the way you used them was genius. This was such a great color challenge. Oh, and those fussy cut scarves…totally kool. You are probably too young to remember the Kool cigarettes penguins. Cute pic of the fur babies.

    • stampsnlingers

I actually DO remember – VAGUELY! – those penguins! Thanks very much, Karen – and yes – you DO need this set! 🙂

  3. Love your card! The colors are perfect with your penguin images! Poor Finn…hope that he got a good nap in while keeping an eye on that pesky cat. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

It was hard – but he Soldiered thru and WAS able to get a little rest! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

    Hi Mary,
I’ve been hoping you’d do a card with those penguins. They are soooo cute. They caught my eye right off cuz I have a family member who loves penguins, so of course I NEED them.
I have a soft spot for kitties too, so I’m glad kitty got the lap. Cute that kitty and Finn are BOTH black and white…mostly (smile)

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Faith! This is a super fun set and I think you DO need them! 😉 And I’m a cat-person, too. Always have been. Love my dogs but cats…they just get me! 🙂

  5. What a wonderful card!! I love the BG you created! And your image and sentiment are awesome!
Thanks for playing along with us at Tuesday Morning Sketches!
