Stampin’ Up! Golden Afternoon Sympathy Card

Good morning!  Well – one week is (almost!) in the books!  And it’s been a busy – and WET!! – one!

Sheesh – on Thursday it just rained buckets and tons.  And it was cold.  Really just a nasty day.  My poor guys were soaked to the skin. 🙁  I’m hoping that today is a little better – but…I’m not holding my breath.  Wishing I’d brought some waders! 😉

My card today is a sympathy card – don’t have a need for it now, but it’s never bad to have one on deck, right?  I used the beautiful Golden Afternoon stamp set and made a super clean-and-simple card.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is rather loosely from this week’s Sunday Stamps challenge.

The colors are from the As You See It challenge.

And – since this is about as close as I’ll ever be able to get to making a “single layer” card…I’m entering it in The Paper Players challenge this week! 🙂

I started with a smaller-than-usual piece of Very Vanilla card stock and used my Stamparatus to stamp the big image from Golden Afternoon in Soft Suede near the side of the panel.

I used my Light and Dark Shaded Spruce, Granny Apple Green and Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends to color the image.

Then I cut a Rectangle Stitched Framelit from the panel.

Again using my Stamparatus, I stamped the sentiment from Golden Afternoon in Shaded Spruce.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the entire panel – including the die cut rectangle – to a Soft Suede mat.

Finally, I added some faux stitches with my Sahara Sand Stampin’ Write Marker and the card front was done!

On the inside, I used my Stamparatus to do a little “double time” stamping.  I stamped the smaller image from Golden Afternoon in Soft Suede on the back of the card base, with a smaller piece (the inner liner) stacked on top.  Then I picked up the smaller piece and stamped the back of the card a second time to “complete” the image!

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Soft Suede mat and into my Thick Very Vanilla card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another of the small Golden Afternoon images on the front…

…and I added the birds image to the envelope flap in Soft Suede.

Et Voila!  Clean and simple – but…I like the die cut rectangle sort of calling out the pretty oak tree from Golden Afternoon!  I hope you like!

  1. Such a pretty card! Love the inlaid die cut, perfectly designed. Hope that today brings some not-so-soggy weather to you! 🙂

Me too – and a little more warmth would be most excellent! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  2. Here’ s to a weather-friendly weekend. Good choices for your challenges. Lovely card…very calming.Those feet…heart melting.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks much, Karen – I’d like no wet stuff and about 20 degrees warmer. 30 if I’m asking for the moon! And yes – I’m missing his face. And his toes! 🙂

  3. Beth Kist

Nice card! What an interesting way to use the stitched rectangle die! It really does highlight the tree, which you colored beautifully.

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you very much, Beth! I was pleased with it! 🙂

  4. Kate

Beautiful. Hope it can stay on file for a long time.

  5. I’m confused! Just cut out the rectangle, but do not pop it up or remove it? Just to get the stitching to highlight that section? Great new technique.

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – cut it and stick right back in the hole! No popping up or matting. It’s just to add some texture – and was a different way to accommodate the sketch! Thanks, Sharon! 🙂

  6. Susan K

Love this! That rectangle really sets the tree off. TFS.
