Stampin’ Up! Alpine Adventure in Plaid!

Good Saturday, y’all!  We’re waiting for another round of snow for the weekend and then looking for beautiful Colorado days all next week.  Whoo-hoo!

My friend from…forever?…is coming up on Monday and spending the night with us.  I met Sally when we were Girl Scout riding camp counselors (she was Bak and I was Pegasus and we still call each other those camp names!) in the Colorado mountains when we were in college.  We very very quickly became the best the best of friends.  No matter how long we’re apart – when we get together, it’s like there’s been no time passing at all.  Y’all have friends like that I hope! 🙂

A few (maybe…20?) years ago, we’d have had a “sleepover” – complete with roasted marshmallows (even if we had to roast them over an electric stove.  Yes – that’s doable!), multiple movies (like…Man From Snowy River and Star Trek), and we’d have stayed up most of the night.

These days?  I’ll have a blog post to do for Tuesday and she’s got an online meeting she has to do for her work!  Oh – and we’ll crash by 9, I have no doubt.

We’re not quite as spry as we used to be, huh? 😉

But – we’ll have a good time, there’s definitely no doubt about that! 🙂

My card for today uses a new (to me) set from the 2018 Holiday Catalog called Alpine Adventure!  I put it over some blue plaid that I created with the Buffalo Check Background.  Take a look-see:

I started by creating my plaid on a piece of Balmy Blue card stock.  Using my Stamparatus, I inked and stamped the Buffalo Check background on the panel with Coastal Cabana ink.  I re-inked and stamped a couple of times until I got the depth of color I wanted.

To create the stripes, I used a non-SU! White Gel Pen and my craft ruler, plus a Coastal Cabana Stampin’ Write Marker (Note:  this was the Marker, not a Blend, and it worked just fine.  I used the brush end!).

I matted the panel on a piece of Coastal Cabana for the card front.

The art started with a smaller piece of Balmy Blue that I embossed in the Softly Falling TIEF.  Then I sponged it with Frost White Shimmer Paint and matted it on Coastal Cabana.

I cut the fun sled with the Alpine Sports Thinlits from a piece of Wood Textures DSP and adhered it to the panel with Liquid Glue.

With the dies in the Alpine Sports Thinlits, I cut some Silver Glimmer Paper snowflakes and a few holly leaves from Mint Macaron card stock.

I adhered the snowflakes to the panel with Liquid Glue, then used a couple three Glue Dots to wind a few loops of Silver & Pool Party Baker’s Twine.

I stamped the sentiment from Alpine Adventure in Versamark on a piece of Balmy Blue, sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  Then I cut it with the die from Alpine Sports.

I popped the sentiment over the twine with Stampin’ Dimensionals, then added the Mint Macaron holly leaves with Liquid Glue.  Finally, I added a tiny Silver Foil bow, cut with the die in Alpine Sports

I popped the whole panel onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Alpine Adventure in Balmy Blue on a Whisper White panel.  Then I stamped Coastal Cabana snowflakes all about…stamping a couple of times without re-inking.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Mint Macaron card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Coastal Cabana snowflakes on the front…

…and more on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love the Alpine Adventure stamp set – bundled with the Alpine Sports Thinlits, don’t you?  And it’s cool and sitting chilly on some wonderful Buffalo Check plaid!  Hope you like!

Mary, best friend reunions are priceless! My Jr. High School best friend and I have that nick name all nighter thing as well.

Thank you for doing the plaid in blue!!! Loving it!!!

    • stampsnlingers

Yes, ma’am – this plaid’s for you! Sorry it took me so long to get to a Blue Plaid for you! Thank you so much – and enjoy your all-nighters! 🙂

  2. That is awesome Mary! I love those shades of blue, the touch of white on the plaid background is perfect! Fantastic holiday sled too! 🙂

Such a pretty card Mary! I love the colors in the plaid! Enjoy your time in Colorado 🙂

Another lovely card… reminds me of the days when I was kid and we’d go sleighing… now I haven’t done that in a long long time. Hard to believe it is snowing already in some parts of the country… Here in the Hudson Valley in upstate NY it is raining again… we had a summer of heat, humidity and rain… but thankfully nothing like what happened with the recent huuricane in Florida and your neck of the woods. I just keep hoping we won’t have much snow this year…

Thank you for sharing this card with us.

If you don’t want snow, then that’s what I’ll be hoping for you! Thanks much, Bernice! 🙂

  5. Kate

And the plaid is back…yay! And soon…so will be the snow. It’s a winning combo.

  6. Yes, I have a friend like that…have been friends for 50 years. Love, love, love the plaid you created…and your snowy card.

  7. Glad to see you are enjoying the snow! And your card is so appropriate. Your plaid really sets the artwork off well. Beautiful.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Julie! And “enjoying” the snow MIGHT be a bit of an understatement! Would like it much more if we didn’t have places we had to go! 🙂

  8. Pat C.

Let me guess…Tomahawk!! Spent years and years there. Love love love the plaid, would never have thought of it, so glad you showed us how. Grateful your place was missed by the weather, and glad you get to see some of ours. I love these weekends of beautiful 65 on Saturday, and 20 and snow on Sunday, that’s Colorado for you!

    • stampsnlingers

Nope – Meadow Mountain Girl Scout Camp!! Right around the corner from Tomahawk! Glad you enjoyed the card, Jeffie!! And yes – Saturday was gorgeous. We’ll see what Sunday brings! Thanks! 🙂
