Stampin’ Up! Winter Woods and a Snow is Glistening Sneak Peek

Mornin’, y’all!  If you’ve got the day off – hope you enjoy the down-time!  If not – get to work!  You’re going to be late! I do NOT have the day off.  And so I’ll be working and going to the dentist and packing to head to Colorado tomorrow.  Long day, indeed!

If you were able to join me last night for my Facebook Live video, I appreciate you taking the time!  Especially given the fact that I dropped you like…5 times?  Sheesh!  I truly don’t know what the issue was – but…the bottom line is that all but the very last 10 min or so was lost in the ether.  Maybe Al Gore has it – I don’t know.  But – there was really nothing worth posting on YouTube.  I’m so sorry! 🙁

Waaaahhhhh!!! 🙁 🙁 🙁

But – it’s a GREAT card.  And a GREAT technique – so…I’ll do another one for y’all soon, I promise!

So – I’ll try to ‘splain it to you in this post, okay?

I used the soon-to-be-available Snow Is Glistening stamp set (get it on 1 Nov!) and the wonderful Winter Woods to create a fun modified Joseph’s Coat card.  Take a look-see:

Cool, huh?  I think it looks like the Northern Lights glowing on winter-bare trees, don’t you?

The color scheme is courtesy of this week’s Color Throwdown challenge.

I also decided to enter in the “tree” portion of this week’s The Paper Players theme challenge!  I’ve got a “leaves” entry for tomorrow! 🙂

I wanted the snow at the top and bottom (both courtesy of the Snow is Glistening stamp set – avail 1 Nov) to be truly white, so I stamped the images across the top and bottom of a Whisper White panel in Versamark (using the hinge-step with the Stamparatus), then heat embossed them in Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  To be clear – stamp, sprinkle and heat one end at a time. 😉

Then I used wedges of Stampin’ Sponge to color the panel – the top third-ish is in Blueberry Bushel, the center in Lemon Lime Twist and the bottom in Shaded Spruce.  I wiped the embossed images off with a paper towel – and they come back nice and white!  This is called an emboss-resist.

Once the sponged panel was good and dry – help it along with the low setting on your Heat Tool – or leave it for a while.  You want it very dry!  Once it was dry, I stamped the trees from the Winter Woods stamp set in Versamark and then heat embossed them with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

I made the “Joseph’s Coat” part by then sponging over the middle section of the panel with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  I didn’t extend the black all the way up into the blue or down into the green portions – I wanted those colors to shine thru!  A final wipe with a paper towel finished it off!

I adhered the panel to a Shaded Spruce mat with Liquid Glue, then I wrapped a length of Basic Black 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon around it, securing it in the back with Glue Dots.

The sentiment, also from the Snow If Glistening set, is heat embossed in Clear on a strip of Whisper White, then sponged with Tuxedo Black.  I snipped a banner end and adhered it to the ribbon with a couple of Glue Dots.

I used a Glue Dot to add a new Snowflake Trinket (coming on 1 Nov with the Snowflake Showcase goodies) and a little bow tied from the Basic Black 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon and the card front was done!

On the inside, I added the Winter Woods image onto a Whisper White panel.  I used my Stamparatus and sponged the stamp directly with Blueberry Bushel, Lemon Lime Twist and Shaded Spruce.  Then I added the sentiment from the Snow Is Glistening set in Tuxedo Black.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Shaded Spruce mat and into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

I repeated the sponged rubber stamp technique with the Winter Woods trees on the front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope…

…and then I used the hinge-step again with the Stamparatus to add the Snow Is Glistening image in Blueberry Bushel across the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love how this turned out – those Winter Woods trees are one of my favorite images in the new 2018 Holiday Catalog.  And the greens just shine, don’t they??  I can’t wait for y’all to be able to snag the Snowflake Showcase goodies – be watching for a blog post all about them, okay?  Hope you like – and…SO sorry for the technical difficulties we had last night!  Thanks for your patience!

Finn Fan Fix

Now look.  I know you guys love my dog.

I got it.

And I don’t want what I’m going to tell you to change your opinion at all.

Ready?

Okay.  Brace yourself.

Finn.  Is.  Weird.

I’m not kidding.

That’s “Sit Pretty”.  Ears – paw up – lips (when I can get it).

And he’s offering it on his own here.

Now – you might think he’s trying to persuade me to give him a peppermint.

Or a piece of filet mignon.

Or bacon.

Nope.

He’s trying to get me to give him a piece of Honeydew melon.

Which I did.

And then he returned for more. Four more times.

Like I said.

Weird. 😉

Stunning card, Mary! The trees appear to be almost glowing. Gorgeous!!!

  2. This is so beautiful! I love how you made the trees! PS…Finn is adorable :)!

  3. Debra Anderson

Beautiful results, despite all the tech problems. I may have to wait on the replay before trying it.
Our Aussie mix loves apples and yogurt. I also heard to try frozen veggies. Supposedly, they like the “crunch”.
    Safe travels!

    • stampsnlingers

Hmmm – I may have to try some frozen carrots or something! Good idea! Thanks very much, Debra – it’s a pretty easy technique – give it a try! 🙂

  4. Ha! Most dogs of my acquaintance would turn up their noses at melon! Weird is right. Sorry about the frustration you had with the video last night, but it is too bad it it lost in the ethernet. The content was good, even if the technology wasn’t. I guess I will have to try this technique. You made a lovely card using it. Also, I really like the way you did the inside and the envelope

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Julie. It WAS frustrating, for sure! But the technique is fun – and I love it (ESPECIALLY with the Lemon Lime Twist! ;))

  5. Such a beautiful card! Love the colors that you used, great way to show off that technique! Honeydew…yucky! It should be cantaloupe…at least that’s not green! 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Mmmm – Honeydew is excellent! Just ask Finny! Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  6. Stunning card! And dog! 😉 Missed the Live due to non-existent service here . I’ve read the instructions three times. Think I’ve got it. Anxious for another card with same techniques. Have fun at the dentist!

    • stampsnlingers

Oh yes – dentist and fun – just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it!? We had some real technical difficulties so you didn’t miss much. 🙁 We’ll do another one! Thanks, Sharon! 🙂

  7. Kate

Very nice card! I figured it was MY goof that kept me from the video. Probably even my ineptitude wouldn’t have wrecked it for everyone…or ?
That don’t be weird, Finny…that be worldly.

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – he has a very sophist-er-cated palate! 😉 Nope – nothing you do can do anything to anyone else’s video. It was all a FB thing! Thanks, Mom! 🙂

  8. Maryanne Willequer

Mary, the card you demo’ed on Sunday nite is truly beautiful! I know it was frustrating for all of us watching to have the system fail 4 out of 5 times, but stuff like that happens with the techie stuff. Not your fault. I am just sorry we didn’t get to see you complete the inside of the card. So my question is, did you just lightly sponge the colors directly onto the tree stamp before stamping? No stamp-off first? Such pretty colors! Thanks, and safe trip to Colorado!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Maryanne – appreciate the understanding! 🙂 Yes – sponge directly onto the rubber stamp with a sponge wedge. Then stamp your panel – no stamp-off! Have fun! 🙂

  9. Cammi Waggoner

Mary your card is gorgeous and I tried to make one and it did not turn out the best. I really hope I get to meet you at convention in November. This is my first one and I am beyond excited. My upline and I are going together

    • stampsnlingers

Whoo-hoo!! We’ll make a point of finding each other! I’m in the Petal Pink room… 😉 Give it another shot – take your time. It’ll work! Thanks so much, Cammi! 🙂

  10. Karen L.

I just read your post from the other day…….I am so sorry to hear about Leo. It is so difficult when we have to say good-bye to our four-legged children. It has been 3 yrs. since we lost our cat, Hampton, & it still brings tears when we think of him. But, they bring so much joy to our lives when they are with us. Hope the memories bring comfort & again so sorry.

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Kathy. Yes – they’re sources of great joy – and the tradeoff is the great sorrow. I’ve had kitties my whole life – so I know that they joy outweighs the sorrow. Just takes a minute to get past it! 🙂

  11. Gerri Knego

Love Finn & love the card. I watched it on FB last night. So frustrating for you but you soldiered on.
Thanks! I always enjoy your videos.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Gerri! I guess it was a FB problem! I hope it’s fixed when next we try! 🙂

  12. bhholcombe

Such a beautiful card!! Thanks so much for joining us at the Color Throwdown this week!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much! Appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

  13. Jeffie Kopp

Funny Finn! Loved the demo despite the tech issues, thank you for sharing. If you’re here in CO for work and need an escape, your welcome to come for dinner. 🙂

Hugs on your loss, they leave such big paw prints on our hearts don’t they?

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you very much for that invite, Jeffie! I’m actually there to see my mom! Glad you enjoyed the card. And yes. They really do leave paw prints – and huge holes!

  14. Susan K

    Absolutely, positively, amazingly gorgeous!
Finn can have my share of the Honeydew anytime! I think it’s weird that people like it!

    • stampsnlingers

LOL! Amy said almost the same thing! I love it when it’s good and ripe! Thanks so much, Susan! 🙂

  15. Cheryl Hewak

WOW WOW WOW This is such a beautiful card. Will have to try this technique. Thank you SO much for showing this card. It is truly awesome.

    • stampsnlingers

Thank YOU, Cheryl! I appreciate that – and hope you WILL give it a go! 🙂

  16. Mary this is fabulous and such a great take on this oldie-but-goodie technique to showcase these wonderful Christmas sets. Your trees are awesome! Thanks for playing along with us over at The Paper Players this week!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Joanne! Appreciate the kind words! 🙂

  17. Mary, this is amazing! I love every single detail! The snow, the color combo and all those gorgeous trees! SO happy you joined us at The Paper Players this week! XX

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Claire! Appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

  18. Oh wow! This is stunning! And Finn isn’t weird – he’s unique!

    • stampsnlingers

LOL! Yep – that’s the word for the Finn, for sure! Thanks, Gail! 🙂
