Stampin’ Up! Pick A Pumpkin Labels to Love Sneak Peek

Happy Friday, y’all!  Hope your week went well and that you’re fixin’ to have a great weekend.  Big deal happening on Monday – anyone make special travel plans to witness it?  We’re pretty close to the path – it crosses the north end of GA.  So, I suspect it’ll get dark here.

I just hope the aliens are more like ET and less like the dudes in Independence Day.

Just sayin’!

My card for today took some inspiration from a sample in the 2017 Holiday catalog and is a sneak peek of a fun little set called Pick a Pumpkin.  It’s bundled with a really cool set called the Patterned Pumpkins Thinlits dies.  I used a sentiment from the Labels to Love stamp set (also in the new catty).  Take a look-see:

The rather unusual layout is a result of this week’s sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.

And I also played along with the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge.  I went down the right side.  And across the bottom (with “Pumpkin” as the “free” space!) – I’m an over-achiever!

Screen Shot 2017-08-17 at 17.34.00

I started out with a panel of Crushed Curry and embossed it in the Layered Petals Dynamic TIEF.  Hint:  When you emboss your card stock, start with a panel a little bigger than you actually need.  Perhaps you’ve noticed card stock seems to shrink when you dry-emboss it?  It’s cuz you’re smooshing up the fibers.  So – emboss it and then trim it down to size.

You’re welcome.

I Fast Fuse’d that to a Cajun Craze mat.

For my angled art work, I started with a piece of Danson 90lb Cold-Pressed Watercolor Paper – about the size of a regular A2 card front.  Using my Aqua Painter, I did a quick wash in Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie, picking up the ink from the lid of my ink pads.

I cut the panel down to size – sort of arbitrarily picking my angles and using my Stampin’ Trimmer.  I laid it over a piece of Cajun Craze, and cut it down as well.  Then I Fast Fuse’d the watercolor paper to the mat.

I used the splatter image in the Timeless Textures stamp set to add Pumpkin Pie splatters all over the panel.  And then I got busy!

Using the Patterned Pumpkins Thinlits, I cut a large pumpkin from Peekaboo Peach card stock, several leaves and tendrils in Vellum card stock, a couple in Copper Foil, a tendril in Old Olive card stock, and a few little bits and pieces that come out of one of the pumpkin dies.

I also stamped one pumpkin from the Pick a Pumpkin stamp set in Pumpkin Pie ink on Very Vanilla and cut it with the matching die.  An Old Olive branch of leaves seemed like a grand idea, too!

Version 2

I stamped a couple of leaves images from Pick a Pumpkin in Early Espresso directly on the watercolor panel.  To start my collage, I stuck a Glue Dot to the panel and adhered several loops of Copper Metallic Thread.  Then I started building the remainder of the elements with Liquid Glue.  As you can see, I also added a few wooden Touches of Nature Elements.  I added the stamped pumpkin with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

The sentiment is from the Labels to Love stamp set.  I colored just the words of the sentiment with my Cajun Craze Stampin’ Write Marker and stamped it on Very Vanilla.  Then I cut it out with a die from the Patterned Pumpkin Thinlits.  I edged it with my Pumpkin Pie Marker and popped it on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I cut the star-filled pumpkin die from Patterned Pumpkins from the corner of a Very Vanilla panel and edged it with my Cajun Craze Stampin’ Write Marker.  I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Cajun Craze mat and then added the pumpkin back in with a little Liquid Glue.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel into my Thick Very Vanilla card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

On the front of my Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, I stamped a smaller Pick a Pumpkin pumpkin in Cajun Craze – then covered it with a sticky note mask and stamped the larger pumpkin in Pumpkin Pie…

…and I added an appropriate-feeling piece of paper from the Painted Autumn DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  While it may not be exactly “clean and fresh-lined” (LOL!) – I really love how the collage turned out.  Hope you like!

The Patterned Pumpkin Thinlits die set is just so cool – chock full of dies just begging to be clustered and collage-i-fied.  I know you’re going to want this bundle, y’all!!

Finn-Fan Fix

Y’all – I have a very smart little dog.  I mean…seriously.

How do I know this?

Cuz…he likes his AC and his fan – just like his mom.

And his mom is smart.

I learned this in Logic Class:

Mom is Smart. (A=C)

Finn is like Mom. (B=A)

Therefore, Finn is Smart. (B=C)

Logic.  Plain and simple.

Check it.

Over to the right side of the picture is a vent in the cabinet toe-kick.  An Air Conditioning vent.  You can’t see it – but all his little hairs are just a-blowing-in-the-breeze.

He goes out for a little while – then shows up at the back door to come in.  And heads to “his spot” to cool off right quick!

Sometimes his furry hind-end is a little too hot, so he aims it just right…

IMG_9455
And sometimes – across the “aisle” isn’t quite close enough and he has to get close-as-can-be.  To cool off even quicker.

IMG_9456

Like I said.  Smart boy! 🙂

  1. What a beautiful card Mary! The fall colors look amazing and your die cuts are so pretty! Yep, Finn is one smart dog…he looks like me when I come in from outside. Ha! 😀

  2. Yes, Finn and his mommy are very smart. You gotta be smart to do an angled piece like that. I looked at that challenge and said, “I just have had no luck with pieces like that. BUT if Mary can do it, her downline can then too.” I’ll give it a go depending when the challenge ends. Good thing you weren’t entering a one layer challenge! I love layers and you’ve got plenty. Lovely card and I have to go check out that Tic Tac Toe challenge. Have a great weekend.

    • Thanks, Karen – I know you can do it! I have the same trepidation about large curved elements! I love the Tic Tac Toe challenges. Can’t wait to see what you create! 🙂

  3. Funny Finn, but I certainly can identify with his need to cool off.
Beautiful card. I really like your colors and the way you layered everything. My pumpkin set came Tuesday but haven’t had a chance to do anything with it yet. Your watercoloring is really great. Where do you get that paper?

    • I got it at Michael’s, I think. Or Hobby Lobby. Either one! It’s very nice to watercolor with! Thanks so much, Julie!

  4. Your card is stunning, I love how you layered all of those fall elements! Wow, I love the colors and your watercolor wash-I was afraid to try the sketch challenge, but you nailed it! Perfect card!

  5. Kate

    Pumpkiny pretty. Like it!
I figure it will get dark enough here to turn on the light and knit. Folks heading to WY, I guess. I reckon any aliens will be corralled by the lions so not expecting any.
That logic will win out every time!

  6. Pat Christ

Put a pumpkin on a card and it’s tops in my book! Love those autumn colors too.
And sweet Mr. Finn, what a character! Thank you for my morning smile, Finn. 😁

    • He’s said “You’re welcome!” And if you like Pumpkins – you’ll love this set and the Gourd Goodness set in the new catalog! Thanks so much, Pat! 🙂

  7. What a beautiful card! I just love all of those different elements and the gorgeous fall colours. Love the embossed background too! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

  8. Susan K

I’m beginning to think lots of layers and elements are my favorites! I absolutely love this! It looks “put together” instead of thrown together like my layering tends to look! Great job. If Finn is smart, then is B=C?

    • Yes – B=C. Also, Mary can’t type. Sheesh. But, my logic equation is fixed now, Susan – thanks! And yes, I’m really liking lots of layers and elements, too! Thanks so much! 🙂

  9. Such a beautiful card!
