Stampin’ Up! Wood Words Stacked Crates

‘Sup, y’all!?  It’s Hawwmp Day!  And I don’t know if I’m staying – going – sitting – waiting – packing – leaving – or on terminal hold!  So…I’ll just keep getting up and going to work (or working at the hotel) and making cards.  Might should buy more food.  Might be a bad idea.  I have no clue.  Stay tuned for the continuing saga of “When will Mary go home!”  🙂

I made a fun little card today to share with you.  I made a stack of Wood Textures Wood Crates.  With some Wood Words goodies quite obviously on their way to the farmer’s market.  Take a look-see:

I played along with the Sunday Stamps challenge with this one…

…but I did a bit of a riff on the sketch – making an optically tall and skinny on a regular sized card.  Here we go!

I started with a Crumb Cake card base (of normal proportions) and I stamped the Tree Rings background image on the front in Crumb Cake ink.

Next up, I matted a piece of Very Vanilla on a Cajun Craze mat – tall and skinny – and used Liquid Glue to adhere it to the card front.

I cut single pieces of the Wood Crates die from three different pieces of the Wood Textures DSP Stack, and trimmed all but the side and end tabs from each piece.  I adhered them to the card front with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals on the end tabs, making sure to angle each successive crate to make a stack!  In the next picture, you can see the Dimensionals and how they’re adhering the crate to the card.

Using the Wood Words stamp set, I stamped Night of Navy stars, Cajun Craze hearts and Crushed Curry chickens on Very Vanilla card stock.  I stamped 5 of each image and cut them all with their matching die in the Wood Crates Framelits.  Then I used Liquid Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals to pile them into their respective crates.

The sentiment, also from Wood Words, is stamped in Crushed Curry on a strip of Very Vanilla.  I snipped a banner end into one end, edged it with my Night of Navy Stampin’ Write Marker, and then, along with a couple of pieces of Night of Navy 1/2″ Gingham Ribbon, adhered it to the bottom crate with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I tied a double-strand bow with Linen Thread and added it to the top crate.  Then I put a Night of Navy star Enamel Shape in the middle of the bow, and one on the sentiment banner and the card front was done.

On the inside, I re-created the optical tall and skinny card effect.  First I stamped the inside of the card base with the Tree Rings image, again in Crumb Cake.  For the liner, I stamped the Wood Words star in Night of Navy across the bottom of a Very Vanilla panel.

I Fast Fuse’d it to a Cajun Craze mat and into the card base and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got some more Night of Navy Wood Word stars on the front…

…and a little more Wood Textures DSP Stack on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I think it’s fun that the Wood Crates Framelits can be adapted to work on a 2-D card front as well as making awesome 3-D projects!  And Wood Words and the Wood Textures DSP stack just go so darned perfectly with the whole shootin’ match, don’t you think?  Hope you like!

Mary

  1. The engineer in you came out on this one. Fantastic take on the tall and skinny. I think your creative mind went to the limit here!

Mary, what a lot of time, love and talent went into your stacked crate card!! All your country elements look great together …. right down to the gingham ribbon trim. I must say I have really enjoyed the encore showing of Finn’s photos that you’ve been treating us with! In today’s photo that little boy is just in heaven with his armful of Finn!! Our Collie puppy is a tri-color and resembles Finn quite a bit …. Buddy is about 2 1/2 months old now and we’ve “lived through” the worst of the puppy stage, I think!! LOL Hope you can head home soon to cuddle with your sweet Finn!

    • It took a minute – but probably not as many minutes as it looks like it took. And I was so tickled with the outcome!! I’m glad you’re enjoying my “reprise!!” And yes. I’m looking forward to some wiggly cuddles soon. Give Buddy a pet for me. How cute that you think you’re thru the worst of it – he’s got months of puppy-osity ahead of him! 😉

      • RitaR

Yes, that was being optimistic about puppy-osities, wasn’t it. ha! Although, Buddy is getting us trained quite well so we are more cued into being a jump ahead of his antics (at least sometimes)! I’ll give him a pet and tell him it’s from Mary!

      • LOL – now THAT makes sense! They’re outstanding people trainers, aren’t they?!? Enjoy the antics, though. One day you’ll look up and you have a “dog” not a “puppy”!! They grow soooo fast! 🙂

  3. Great Crates! Love the country look, and that bundle and DSP are great for it. Another cool card!

  4. That’s awesome Mary! Love your little stack of crates and your colors are just perfect! 🙂

What a wonderful, fun card! Your color choices are perfect with the rustic theme of the crates. I love it all. (Hope you get word on your staying/leaving today!)

    • Me, too, Susan – me, too. Having zero control is a bit difficult for my Type A control freak personality! Thanks so much, Susan! 🙂
