Well, good Tuesday morning from California! My trip yesterday was uneventful and I even managed to change seats so I was on the aisle. And I watched Dr. Strange and Keeping Up With The Joneses. So, all in all, it was fine.
My card for today uses a technique called Black Magic – and this one uses Whisper White Craft Ink and the new Watercolor Pencils. I learned the technique from a video that Sandi MacIver did! You can go see her great video here. I may do a video on this one day, but I’ll need a lot more practice to be as good at it as Sandi is!
I decided to use the Artistically Asian stamp set and a butterfly from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set! Take a look-see:
I loosely based the layout on The Paper Players sketch this week – kind turned it upside down…
I started with a piece of Basic Black card stock, matted on Rich Razzleberry. To do the Black Magic technique, I first stamped my images in Whisper White Craft Ink. I started at the bottom with the Artistically Asian flower image. Then I used the solid butterfly in the Papillion Potpourri set and stamped it twice – leaving a space for my sentiment.
One really important part of the technique is that the ink needs to be completely dry before moving on to the next step. So…let it sit for a good while, or help it along with your Heat Tool.
The next step is to lay-down a LOT of color (or lack of color??) with the White Watercolor Pencil. Completely cover every part of the images with the white watercolor pencil. You want a good, solid layer of white.
Next up is to lay in the colors. For the Artistically Asian flower – I used the Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Early Espresso pencils. The butterflies are in Pacific Point and Bermuda Bay. On the butterflies, I left a thin outline of white around the color.
The final step was to highlight with a White Gel Pen. I just added bunches of dots where it felt right to add them! And I outlined the butterflies and some portions of the flowers.
My sentiment, from Artistically Asian, is heat embossed in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a piece of Basic Black card stock. I matted it on Rich Razzleberry and then SNAILd it to the card front.
On the inside, I used the marker-to-rubber technique to color a second flower image from Artistically Asian and stamped a Whisper White panel. I colored the stamp with the Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive Stampin’ Write Markers. Once the ink had dried completely, I added some dots with the White Gel Pen. Finally, I stamped a second sentiment from Artistically Asian in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.
My Whisper White Medium Envelope got two more Artistically Asian flowers, both using the marker-to-rubber inking technique and White Gel Pen dots. On the front I used Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Early Espresso…

Not much to report on the Finn-front, since I’m not there. We took him with us to the airport yesterday. My luggage was in the back of the van, so we had the leash on him – just in case he decided he needed to go with me when I opened the hatch. Fast as he can move, there’d have been no stopping him!
I wish I could have taken a picture of him watching me over the back of the seat. I would have – but…I was hurrying to get the hatch closed back. I’d say he looked sad – but that might just be me projecting what I was feeling onto him! 🙁
It looked a little like this – but with a car seat in front of him!
