Stampin’ Up! Glimmer Succulent and All Things Thanks!

Happy Monday, y’all.  When you read this, I’ll either be loading up to head to the airport, or laying on my bed in the fetal position, sucking my thumb and wailing….”I DON’T WANNA GO!!”  🙂

Cuz…I don’t wanna!  Finn doesn’t wanna me to, either!  Waaaa!

But.  It is what it is, yes?  And I’m sure once I get going, all will be well.  Right now, though, I’m working my way thru the pre-trip panics!

Enough about that!  Let’s look at my card for today.  I used the new Glimmer Paper – it’s hard for me to resist it, really!  And some Succulent Framelits and Succulent Garden DSP.  And the All Things Thanks for a couple of sentiments.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one comes from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

And my colors come from this week’s Color Throwdown!

I started with an Old Olive piece of paper from the Succulent Garden DSP and matted it on Crumb Cake.  The next layer is a piece of Whisper White stamped with the linen-y/burlap-y image in the Timeless Textures stamp set in Crumb Cake.  I sponged the edges with more Crumb Cake and then matted it on Crumb Cake and SNAILd it to the card front.

My sentiment is from the All Things Thanks set, stamped in Rich Razzleberry on a strip of Whisper White. I snipped the end with my Paper Snips.  Then I used the little banner die in the Succulent Framelits to cut an Old Olive and a Rich Razzleberry banner.  I set it all aside until I was ready for it.

My flower is cut with the Succulent Framelits from the new Mint Macaron Glimmer Paper.  I cut 2 of the large and medium sizes of the succulent flower petals and one small flower, and lightly sponged all the edges with Rich Razzleberry.  I also cut a few of the small “center” flowers and sponged them as well.  To build the flower, I lightly rolled all the tips with my Bone Folder, and then adhered all the layers together with my Handlheld Stapler.  I used a Glue Dot to help adhere a Rich Razzleberry Enamel Shape to the middle of the flower.

I pulled a bunch of strands of thread from a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon.  Some of them I wound up (like girls twirl their hair into a rope!) and then I stapled the ends together to form a burlap thread wreath.  Then I used some Liquid Glue to adhere it to the card front.  Next I added the sentiment and the two banners I’d cut earlier, using Liquid Glue (and a Stampin’ Dimensional under the end of the sentiment).  Finally – the flower – also adhered with Liquid Glue.  As the picture above shows, I used several strands of my burlap thread to tie a bow, then I adhered it with a Glue Dot.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I started with a Whisper White panel.  I matted a narrow strip of the Succulent Garden DSP to a Crumb Cake mat and adhered it down the side.  Then I stamped a second sentiment from All Things Thanks in Rich Razzleberry.

I SNAILd the panel to a Crumb Cake mat and into my Rich Razzleberry card base, SNAILd the card front on and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more of the Timeless Textures “burlap” in Crumb Cake across the front…

…and added more of the Succulent Garden DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Glimmery shimmery and yet rustic and earthy.  I love the Succulent Garden Suite – and hope you do, too!

FINN-FAN FIX….

So…I think we’ve pretty much established that Finn loves him some sticks!

finn-with-another-big-stick-1 finn-with-a-too-big-stick finn-speeding-with-a-stick

But the other day, we bumped stick-loving up a notch!

The stick came inside…

finn-with-his-stic-in-the-house
It took some persuasion…a little tugging…and, finally, a bribe with a mini milk bone to get him to give it up.  And he made us promise it would be waiting for him in the morning!

Cuz, of course, on 30 acres, surrounded by trees, there’s always a chance he won’t be able to find a new stick anywhere! And that just wouldn’t do at all! 😉

  1. This card is screaming, “Make me your first video!” My hair has never been long enough to twirl…well maybe once or twice, but I never twirled it! I am bow challenged…I still cannot tie my shoes properly so I avoid laces. I cannot imagine sponging or curling glimmer paper. This is a cannot do morning for me I guess. I can’t stay in bed either because there’s laundry and cards on my horizon. First a cup of coffee then maybe I’ll check to see when my glitter paper is arriving. Have a good week and thanks, again, for sharing your talent and handsome young boy.

    • Yikes! This one wasn’t hard, but…it would be a stretch for the first go, I fear! Or I could just make the disclaimer up front….will be twirling thread in public, please cut me some slack! Get your coffee, girl! You’ll feel better and be ready to go – or at least you’ll be awake! 🙂 Thanks much, Karen! 🙂

Hope your trip is going well! Your burlap thread wreath and bow and the linen-y/burlap-y image you created with the texture stamp compliment one another so well …. looks great! I continue to look forward to your beautiful cards as well as getting my Finn fix. Thanks so much for sharing with all of us!

  3. Oh, love your glittery flower! The sponging on the edges is just perfect and your burlap ribbon treatment is awesome!! Love everything about it! 🙂

    Beautiful card, Mary!
Can’t even think of you sucking your thumb…ever. WAY too late to start. I DO recognize the pre-trip thing though, and you are spot on. Once on the way, all will be very well. Be safe!!!

    • Thanks, Mom. I’m so looking forward to my middle seat for 5+ hours. Flying is just such a joy. 😉

      • Kathleen VanDeVeere

MIDDLE SEAT??? NO. NO. NO. Surely you did not make that reservation.

      • Nope. It was a late reservation and a completely full airplane. Managed to change it once I got to the gate so it was all good! 🙂

  5. Oh, so beautiful! Love what you did with the succulent. Gorgeous 🙂 Have a good week1

  6. Lot’s of sparkly beauty on this card! Love it contrasted with the burlap look. Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches this week!

  7. jentimko

All that sparkle is so pretty! Lovely for the sketch. So glad you joined us this week at FMS!

  8. juliejphoto

Another beauty! Love the way you made the wreath and everything about the succulents! You did it all very, very well. In Waycross tonight. Drove through Atlanta around noon. Stopped for awhile due to an accident, then clear sailing. Hope you are feeling better and are safely at your destination.

    • Yes indeed – made it safely. Even managed to change seats so I wasn’t in the middle!! Whoo-hoo! Glad that YOU made it safely across Atlanta – that can be a real trick! Thanks so much for the nice words about my card, Julie! 🙂
