Stampin’ Up! Totally Trees and Starlight Peace

Hey, y’all.  By the time you read this, I’ll be at the airport.  Or even already in Utah, depending on your schedule.  As I wrote this on Sunday evening, I’m as close to being ready to go as I can get until the clothes come out of the dryer.  And I’m stressing like crazy!

Not so much because of the trip, although it’s becoming more and more stressful for me.  Nope.  I’m worrying cuz…tomorrow….Mr. Finn-Chewie goes to be Tutored.  Wink.

The worst part is that in the morning he won’t get his run, won’t get any breakfast and won’t get the huge drink of water he always has first thing.  And I can’t even tell him why.  And when he comes home I won’t even be here.  And he won’t know why.  Or if I’ll be back.  Worst part of having a velcro dog is that it makes such a horrible rip when you leave them.

Okay.  That’s it.  No more maudlin crap.  Finn, in the way of puppies, knows of nothing amiss – so I’m not going to be a big ole sissy-la-la-wussy face.  Dogs get tutored every day and they get over it.  So I will, too.

We’ve been hooking his leash under the leg of the recliner (if he pulls that, then I’m buying a cart and we’re going to compete!).  So he lays on the living room, looking longingly at the cat bowls – knowing there’s a few little kernels left in them, and playing with his rope toy.  Until he falls asleep….

Yes – he’s sound asleep holding the rope toy in his mouth.  Seriously and ridiculously cute. 🙂

So I’ve been making all my cards for this next week and the one I made today is one of my favorites.  It’s Black and Metallic.  I used the Totally Trees stamp set, a little bit of Be Jolly, By Golly (get this one at 20% off TODAY only while Online Extravaganza is still on!), and a couple of die cuts.  Take a look-see:

My design was inspired by this week’s challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.

I started with a piece of Basic Black card stock for my card front.  Using the “ground” image in the Totally Trees stamp set, I stamped the image in Versamark, sprinkled it with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  Next came the bare tree image, which I stamped three times in Versamark and then heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

Finally, I pulled out Be Jolly, By Golly and stamped the stars image twice in Versamark and embossed them in Silver.  Then I matted the panel on Gold Foil.

My sentiment is a die cut from the Christmas Greetings Thinlits.  I cut it once in Gold Foil and twice in Basic Black, stacked them up and adhered them together with Liquid Glue.  I adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.

My embellishment is a die cut from the Starlight Thinlits.  I cut one in Silver Foil and two in Basic Black, then stacked them with Liquid Glue.  I stuck a Glue Dot on the back of the star and looped some Gold Metallic Thread behind it, then adhered it to the card front with more Liquid Glue.  I added a Gold star from the Metallics Enamel Shapes to the middle of the star and that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I heat embossed the star image from Be Jolly, By Golly in Silver across the top of a Whisper White panel.

I matted the panel on Gold Foil and then into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

For my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I embossed my Totally Trees image in Gold three times across the front…

…and then heat embossed the stars from Be Jolly, By Golly in Silver on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  This one is easy-peasy, but the impact of the metallics on the black is huge!  I really love how this one turned out – Totally Trees is one of my favorite stamp sets in the Holiday Catalog.  Hope you like! 🙂

Great card Mary! I love the black and metallics together:-). Poor Finn – but he’ll be fine. When my daughter’s dog got tutored (love the Far Side reference) – he hardly missed a beat! Hope the week flies by for you!

  5. Just beautiful, Mary! sorry I have been in and out and have not seen that you are in Utah for the week. Hope it is a fast and easy trip! Hope to see you Sunday! 🙂

  6. Oh wow! Such elegance and such a wonderful festive card! Thanks for joining us at FMS this week!

Stunning card, the black and gold are outstanding together. I don’t look good in gold so I forget to use it in decorations or cards. I don’t have this stamp set but I have an other stamp set with trees. The one that has been in the catalog forever. I am going to try this card using that set. Thanks for sharing.
