Stampin’ Up! Star of Light for Christmas Eve

Happy Christmas Eve, y’all!  I know you’re all busy and getting ready for the Big Day tomorrow!  Me, too!  I’ll be off to the grocery to pick up the Prime Rib for dinner and a few extra little ingredients for my part of Christmas Dinner.  Everyone’s coming here this year, so….it’ll be a big day!

Finn’s in for a big party – he’ll be so excited – maybe I need to put a diaper on him!  He still has a little trouble keeping everything…in?…when he gets excited.  And the whole group showing up is for sure going to be pretty exciting!

Want to know what is not exciting?  When you want to stay outside longer and your mom wants you to come in.  That happens sometimes. 😉

Puppy-solution?

Just say no!

finn-laying-down-on-the-golf-cart-seat
See him there?  Laying down on the seat and peeking out at me?  Yea.  That’s how he shares with me that he’s happy where he is, thank you very much!!  Little stinker!

My card for today is a serious nod to the day.  I used some non-traditional colors and the wonderful Star of Light stamp set and matching framelits to make this Christmas Eve card.  Take a look-see:

The layout was inspired by the sketch from Can You CASE It this week:

And my color scheme comes from the My Favorite Things color challenges:

I also got some inspiration from a card in the Holiday Catalog – y’all need to be sure that you’re looking at all the samples in the catalog, okay?  The Stampin’ Up! designers are seriously talented folks and you can get some really superb ideas from them!

I started with a panel of Marina Mist card stock and cut a piece of Vellum card stock the exact same size.  I didn’t adhere them together until the very end – cuz I wanted to have all my embellishments on the vellum – thus showing me exactly where I could put my adhesive and have it hidden.

First off, I used one of the dies in the Starlight Thinlits to cut a design in the Vellum.

star-of-light-in-blue-and-peach-2-stamps-n-lingers
Next up is a length of Silver 3/8″ Glitter Ribbon – I snipped some banner ends in it and then adhered it directly to the Vellum with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

Using two of the star images in the Star of Light stamp set, I heat embossed three of them with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Peekaboo Peach, then cut them out with their matching dies in the Starlight Thinlits.  They, too, are adhered directly to the Vellum with Liquid Glue.

The large star is a double cut.  One is a plain Star of Light star cut from Marina Mist card stock – it became the shadow.  Over that, I heat embossed the large and intricate image in White on Pool Party card stock and then cut it out.  I used Liquid Glue to adhere them together and to wind several loops of Silver Metallic Thread around on the back.  The final product was adhered to the card front with more Liquid Glue.

star-of-light-in-blue-and-peach-3-stamps-n-lingers
Then I cut the smaller intricate star from some Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and adhered it next to my large star.

The final piece was the sentiment.  I stamped the Star of Light sentiment in Peekaboo Peach on Whisper White and snipped banner ends.  I edged the banner with my Smoky Slate Stampin’ Write Marker and then popped it onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

star-of-light-in-blue-and-peach-8-stamps-n-lingers
At that point, I turned the Vellum over and wherever there was something on the front – I put Liquid Glue – keeping it light enough that it wouldn’t smoosh out and be visible on the front.  Then I carefully aligned the Vellum over the Marina Mist panel and secured it in place.

On the inside, I took the “swoosh” image from Star of Light and inked it with Smoky Slate.  Then I stamped it off once and stamped it in the middle of a Whisper White panel.  Over that, I stamped the large intricate star in Pool Party – also stamping it off once first.  Finally, I stamped the second sentiment in Peekaboo Peach.

star-of-light-in-blue-and-peach-5-stamps-n-lingers
I matted the panel on Marina Mist and then into my Smoky Slate card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another stamped-off-once Smoky Slate “swoosh” and a full-strength Pool Party intricate star on the front…

… and a full-strength Smoky Slate “swoosh” on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Celebrating the miracle that occurred this night – the beautiful Star of Light stamp set and Starlight Thinlits does a perfect job!  Hope you like.

Stampin’ Up! Totally Trees and Starlight Peace

Hey, y’all.  By the time you read this, I’ll be at the airport.  Or even already in Utah, depending on your schedule.  As I wrote this on Sunday evening, I’m as close to being ready to go as I can get until the clothes come out of the dryer.  And I’m stressing like crazy!

Not so much because of the trip, although it’s becoming more and more stressful for me.  Nope.  I’m worrying cuz…tomorrow….Mr. Finn-Chewie goes to be Tutored.  Wink.

The worst part is that in the morning he won’t get his run, won’t get any breakfast and won’t get the huge drink of water he always has first thing.  And I can’t even tell him why.  And when he comes home I won’t even be here.  And he won’t know why.  Or if I’ll be back.  Worst part of having a velcro dog is that it makes such a horrible rip when you leave them.

Okay.  That’s it.  No more maudlin crap.  Finn, in the way of puppies, knows of nothing amiss – so I’m not going to be a big ole sissy-la-la-wussy face.  Dogs get tutored every day and they get over it.  So I will, too.

We’ve been hooking his leash under the leg of the recliner (if he pulls that, then I’m buying a cart and we’re going to compete!).  So he lays on the living room, looking longingly at the cat bowls – knowing there’s a few little kernels left in them, and playing with his rope toy.  Until he falls asleep….

finn-asleep-with-the-rope-toy
Yes – he’s sound asleep holding the rope toy in his mouth.  Seriously and ridiculously cute. 🙂

So I’ve been making all my cards for this next week and the one I made today is one of my favorites.  It’s Black and Metallic.  I used the Totally Trees stamp set, a little bit of Be Jolly, By Golly (get this one at 20% off TODAY only while Online Extravaganza is still on!), and a couple of die cuts.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Star of Light Votive Easel

Good morning, y’all!  It’s Friday and when you read this I’ll be on my way or at the World Card Making Day event hosted by Brian King and Pam Morris!  With any luck, Kelly and I will have had a smooth trip up to Atlanta and we’ll be gettin’ crafty! 🙂

So – I do have a picture of Finn for you today.  Well, I actually have two.  After today, there won’t be any for a day or two until I can get back home to take them!  Fair warning….you’ll be stuck with just me and a card!

This morning (Thursday morning, that is), after our usual run, we adjourned to the chairs on the porch of the barn.  I to my e-mail and Finn to his….sand squirting.  That’s what I call his time in the sandy spot at the end of the barn.  He twirls and crouches and jumps and…well, squirts like he’s been shot from a water pistol!  I took a video but I have yet to figure out how to post a video here.  The funniest part of the video is the end, where he “squirts” right to me at about a hundred miles per hour and leapt (never even tapped the brake or thought it through!) slam into my lap.  And slam is right.  He’s a chunk!  So he then sat there for about 5 minutes.  And then got down and into the next-door chair for a micro-snooze.  Just a-sittin’ on the porch with his mom! While she tried to recover the breath that he knocked out of her! 🙂

finn-in-the-lounger
Here’s the second pic – I don’t think it needs any ‘splainin’…

finn-with-ball-and-stick
Play hard and carry your ball and a big stick!  And if the stick is almost too big for you to carry?  All the better! 🙂

So, on to card making stuff, since that’s really why you come by.  Today I made a second 3-d project to take to the swap.  This is another easel card, meant for a little battery-operated votive.  I used the Star of Light stamp set and the Starlight Thinlits die set.  And couched it in Wisteria Wonder and Silver.  Take a look-see:

star-of-light-votive-easel-10-stamps-n-lingers

I used the same dimensions and card cut sizes that I used for my Detailed Greetings From Santa votive easel I did a couple weeks back.  You can check that one out here, if you like!

I started with a piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock, cut to 4 1/2″ x 12″ and I scored and folded it at 4 1/4″ and 8 1/2″.  To add a little texture to the front, I ran what would be the front panel thru the Big Shot in the Woodland TIEF.  I considered adding some highlights with a white gel pen, but decided against it.

I pulled out the pretty detailed star die from the Starlight Thinlits set and cut the star from the middle of the front panel.  I also cut one from a piece of Silver Foil while I was at it.

star-of-light-votive-easel-8-stamps-n-lingers
I cut a second piece of Wisteria Wonder to 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″.  I ran that piece thru the Big Shot to cut the large “open” star image from the Starlight Thinlits.  I used the already-cut front panel to make sure that everything would line up.  The point of this piece is to tidy up the back of the front panel, so it all looks pretty when you open up the card!

star-of-light-votive-easel-2-stamps-n-lingers
I used some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere a piece of Vellum card stock behind the star on the front panel.  Then I added the second, smaller Wisteria Wonder panel over the top of the Vellum, using more Liquid Glue.

Finally, I took the Silver Foil die cut and used eensy-weensy little tiny droplets of glue from my Fine-Tip Glue Pen to adhere it into the opening on the card front.  To help the glue adhere, I laid my largest acrylic block over the panel and weighted it down a bit.  And worked on my sentiment.

Do y’all know where the sentiment “shine” came from?

Any guesses?

Take a minute to look thru the catalog…thumb thru your thinlits and framelits….

Figure it out?

Yep – the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits!  I cut the word “Sunshine” out and then carefully snipped off “Sun” and trimmed up the little tail on the first “s” to make it look like it was meant to be that way!

star-of-light-votive-easel-11-stamps-n-lingers
I adhered that to the front panel with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue and it was time to move inside!

For the smaller, end panel, I stamped two sentiments from the Star of Light stamp set in Wisteria Wonder on a Whisper White panel, making sure the smaller one was down far enough that it would show when the easel is open.

Then I used the swirly-stars image and inked it in Smoky Slate, then stamped-it-off-once before stamping it on the panel.  I did that a couple of times, then SNAILd the panel to a Silver Foil mat and onto the card base.

The middle panel got another of the Star of Light sentiments in Wisteria Wonder and more swirly stamped-off-once Smoky Slate stars.  It’s also matted on Silver.

star-of-light-votive-easel-1-stamps-n-lingers
The final piece of the card was to add the easel “stops”.  For this one, I used Silver Metallic Enamel stars – I stacked two stars up on each side to ensure it would “catch” the easel.  I added some more stars, too.  Cuz I like ’em! 🙂

star-of-light-votive-easel-12-stamps-n-lingers
I added some Star of Light swirly’s and Silver stars to the front of a Whisper White Medium Envelope (I decided to use this size envelope versus making a square envelope)…

star-of-light-votive-easel-5-stamps-n-lingers
…and another swirly to the envelope flap.

star-of-light-votive-easel-9-stamps-n-lingers
And all that was left to do was dim the lights, turn on the little votive and enjoy the show!

star-of-light-votive-easel-3-stamps-n-lingersstar-of-light-votive-easel-4-stamps-n-lingers
Et Voila!  These little easel cards are so easy to make, and adding a glow-y feature to the front is just another couple of steps!  I think this Star of Light bundle really lends itself well to this kind of card, don’t you?  Hope you like – and will give it a shot!  And hope whoever gets this tomorrow – yes, it’s going! – will enjoy it thru the Christmas season!

  • Promotion Deadline (25% off select stamp sets): 30 November 2016, by 11:50 PM (MT)

FYI, here are the measurements for the full cutout pieces for the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies:

  • Circles:
    1-3/8”
    1-7/8”
    2-3/8”
    2-7/8”
  • Squares:
    1-3/16”
    1-5/8”
    2-1/8”
    2-5/8”
  • Ovals:
    1-3/4” x 13/16”
    2-1/4” x 1-5/16”
    2-3/4” x 1-13/16”
    3-1/4” x 2-5/16”

The stitched embossing is approximately 1/16” from the edge of the cutout. So the dimensions are approximately 1/8” smaller than the cutouts.

You’ve got a few more days to take advantage of the Double Peppermints Ordering Special, so…

I’ll be back tomorrow with another card – and….foreshadowing!…next Monday afternoon I’ll be able to share some of the new goodies coming in the 2017 Occasions Catalog!  Fun fun!

Stampin’ Up! Sneak Peek – Star of Light Peace!

It’s Friday!  Yeah!!  And it’s the 26th of August!

Which means….only 3 days (let’s include today!) left to get in on the 2016 Holiday Catalog shares!  Scroll on down for the details. 🙂

Today’s card is a Christmas card.  Not a holiday card.  A Christmas Card.  I hope to not offend anyone, but…for me, the holiday we celebrate in December is Christmas!  And the sentiment I picked is decidedly “Christmas”!

I’m using the upcoming Star of Light bundle.  Notice I say bundle.  When I ordered this as part of my pre-order (a very nice SU! demo perk!), for some unknown reason, I only ordered the stamp set!  Hello?!?  I realized it when the giant box o’ goodies arrived and I dug everything out.  I went thru all the thinlit and framelits envelopes 4 times.  Just in case I’d missed it.  But no.  So…had to do a second pre-order (darn the luck!!) to buy the thinlits.  Let’s just pretend that’s all I ordered in my second go, shall we?!

Star of Light Bundle - Stamps-N-Lingers
When you buy this next week – don’t be like me – be sure to order the bundle, okay?  You’re really going to want it and you might as well get that 10% discount!

So, I used the Star of Light bundle, added a die-cut sentiment from the Christmas Greetings Thinlits and this is what I came up with.  Take a look-see:

Star of Light Peace 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
My design comes from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge #251:

FMS 251 Sketch
So, I started with a piece of Basic Gray card stock, and inked the swirly stars image from Star of Light in Versamark.  I stamped the image multiple times across the panel, and then sprinkled it with Heat & Stick Powder.  After I quickly heated the powder with my Heat Tool, I sprinkled it with Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter and hit it a second time with the Heat Tool.

Tip: while you need to move along expeditiously doing this, do take the time to close the lid on your Versamark ink pad before you start tapping off excess glitter or turning your Heat Tool on.  This glitter – like all glitter! – moves real easy in a breeze.  And kind of goes everywhere…just sayin’…. 😉

Once it was all dry, I SNAILd it to a Dapper Denim mat.

Star of Light Peace 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers
The center square is a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, matted on Dapper Denim.  I cut both squares with the Squares Layering Framelits and SNAILd them together and then to the card front.  Then I wrapped a length of Silver 5/8″ Satin Ribbon around, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

For the Star of Light focal point, I used two dies from the Starlight Thinlits.  I cut the detailed piece from Silver Foil and the solid backer from Dapper Denim card stock, and used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere them together.

See why you want the Starlight thinlits?  Fussy cutting that top star would have been a bit of a….challenge! 🙂

Star of Light Peace 8 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I used some Stampin’ Dimensional under the top and bottom tips of the star and Liquid Glue on the rest of it to adhere it over the center of the card.

For my front sentiment, I cut the word three times with my Christmas Greetings Thinlits die – once from the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and twice from Dapper Denim and stacked them up with Liquid Glue.  I used a little more of the glue to adhere the stack over the star.  And that was it for the card front!

Star of Light Peace 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers
On the inside, I repeated the Star of Light swirly stars image in Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter on Whisper White card stock.  Then I used my Stamp-a-ma-Jig to line up and stamp a pretty sentiment from Star of Light in Dapper Denim.

Star of Light Peace 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I SNAILd the panel to a Dapper Denim mat and then into my Basic Gray card base, popped the front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

For my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I used a couple of small star images from Star of Light and stamped them in Smoky Slate and Dapper Denim on the front.  I stamped each image twice – offsetting the second stamp…

Star of Light Peace 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and I used the swirly stars image again on the envelope flap, this time heat embossing it in Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

Star of Light Peace 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Voila!  Star of Light – a perfectly beautiful bundle to help you celebrate the Christmas/holiday season!  It also has more secular sentiments, so it’s a wicked-versatile set!  I hope you’ll consider adding it to your wish list.  And be sure to get the bundle from the git-go! 😉

Scroll on down for the card cuts and all the goodies you need to make this for yourself!
