Stampin’ Up! Presents & Pinecones Gift Box

Happy Saturday, y’all – I’m hoping you’re in the middle of a four-day weekend like I am!  And that you’re recovering from the excess of Thanksgiving dinner.  It’s always a little amazing when I’m actually hungry the next morning!

So….does anyone out there speak “cat”?  I mean…like…fluently?  I need someone to tell my little goofy cats that they need to turn around and bow up and fluff their tails and stare…the….puppy…down.  Instead of running from him.  He doesn’t chase things that don’t run.  And – if they’d act all menacing, he’ll slink away with his little wiggle-wagger tucked under as far as he can get it to tuck!

I’ve watched him do it with my friend’s beast of a cat.

But no.

They run.

On second thought…that may be their plan.  They get a little gallop and romp and the puppy gets scolded and put in the kennel or on his leash.  A twofer!  I have noticed that Katy in particular is back in the living room strolling around right by his kennel pretty quickly after “an event”!

Hmmmm. 😉

My share today isn’t a card.  It’s a card holder!  I used some Presents & Pinecones DSP and some Pretty Pines and a little bit of Jar of Cheer to make a box for my mom.  Take a look-see:

Yes, I know.  Her birthday was at the beginning of November.  Not the day after Thanksgiving. 🙁  But, I stuffed it full of Christmas Cards for her to use this year to send her Christmas letter.  Most of them with pinecones and holly and music.  All favorites – so…I’m hoping quality overcame tardiness! 🙂

I made the box using the directions in my tutorial, which you can see right here, being sure to use Tear & Tape Adhesive to make it strong.  One tip – when you’re measuring to determine how big to make your box, remember your envelopes are bigger than your card!  Just sayin’….

My box bottom is Emerald Envy card stock and the top is one of the pretty designs from the Presents & Pinecones DSP.  Then I wrapped some Cherry Cobbler 3/8″ Silky Taffeta Ribbon around it and made a bow.

I made a tag from a piece of Whisper White card stock, punching the top with my Scallop Tag Topper Punch, and rounding the corners with the Project Life Corner Punch.  Using a couple of images from the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set, I stamped Happy Birthday in Cherry Cobbler on the bottom of the tag.

My trees are from Jar of Cheer, stamped in Emerald Envy.  I made two trees and stamped each one twice – offsetting the second stamp a smidge.

I cut a Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper pinecone with the Pretty Pines Thinlits, brushed it with my Gold Wink of Stella and adhered it over a Gold Foil solid pinecone.  The pine boughs are in Emerald Envy and some berries from Cherry Cobbler.  I used Liquid Glue to adhere them in an artful and oh-so-organic way onto the tag.

All that was left was to tie the tag to the bow.  To do that, I used a strand of Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine.  Then I used some Glue Dots to add a couple of Mini Pinecones and a little bow tied from Cherry Cobbler, Emerald Envy and Gold Baker’s Twine!  And that was it!

Et Voila!  All you’d need to do is change the sentiment and this would be a fun little box for almost any occasion!   Hope you like!  I think I put about 8 cards and envelopes in this one – it’s got 2″ sides.  And the cards were my usual thicker-than-normal layered jobbies!  So – be sure to check out the tutorial and use that DSP to make beautiful boxes to hold your small gifts this year!

    GOOOOOD

  4. Mom

She WAS surprised! And any tardiness had been long forgotten (along with some things probably best remembered, but crs is not very discriminating!). The box of cards, and their container and tag, are SO
specially beautiful that parting with even one will take hard thought. They will be sent to only the most special recipients, but I suppose it would be a bit silly to send one back to YOU!?!

    • Well, I thank you for the sentiment, but yea…kinda like sending coals to Newcastle! Thanks, Mom – so glad that you liked it all! 🙂
