Stampin’ Up! Cable Knit and Pines Noel

Hey, y’all!  Hope the weekend’s going well for you.  We had a bit of an….incident on Friday evening….

And it was totally on Wayne.

Not me.

For which I am oh-so-grateful!

When we feed the horses in the evening, we fill a container with Beet Pulp and Hay pellets and one with Alfalfa hay cubes, and fill them with water. Then they soak for an hour or so while everyone is eating their dinner.  Around 8:30 or so, we go back out, put the girls out in the pasture, and give the now-soaked-and-easy-to-chew pellets and cubes to Bo.

Did you know that horses’ teeth grow until the – essentially “run out”?  They wear them down with the grinding motion when they chew.  When they get old (Bo’s 26), the teeth stop growing – they “run out” – and then they don’t meet in the back the way they need to to chew hay or grass efficiently.  If they reach that point and aren’t supplemented, well….they die.  If you’re one of my horses, then your staff will always be there to provide easy-to-chew food.  It’s especially good if it’s $20 for a 50lb sack!  The staff loves that! 😉

Anywho….on Friday, I was busy blogging so I asked Wayne if he’d do the second round.  About 10 minutes after he left the house, my phone rang.

This is never good news.

I thought someone – likely Bo – was colicing (should there be a “k” in there?  I don’t know!) – and that we were in for a long night

Well.  We were in for a long night, but Bo wasn’t sick.  This is what I heard:

“I left the d%^& water on in the sink and it overflowed and flooded the entire tack room!!”

To which I responded “You’ve got to be kidding me”.

He wasn’t.

We spent the next couple of hours shop-vac’ing the tack room.  Our neighbor came up with his vac and we have two.  Also sucked the wet feed out of the sink – the culprit in the overflow.

Finn, meanwhile, was asked to stay on the golf cart.  Which he did.

Around 9 or so, his usual “bed time”, he….went to bed.

I’d shucked my hoodie and put it on the golf cart seat, so when he got tired, he just hopped up and made himself comfortable!

I know.  He’s ridiculously sweet.  And he’s got a bit of “couch potato” in him, which works well since his mom has a pretty good bit of that as well!

So that was our adventure on Friday!  Fun, huh? The glamorous life of horse owners! 🙂

I did actually make a card for you – guess you’d maybe like to see it?  For this one, I used the Christmas Pines stamp set and the matching Pretty Pines Thinlits, the Hang Your Stocking Thinlits, and the cool Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF.  Take a look-see:

This card design was inspired by the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week:

fms-262-sketch

I started by embossing a Whisper White panel in the Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF.  BTW – Stampin’ Up! is bringing another of the “Dynamic” folders to us in the 2017 Occasions Catalog.  The Hexagons Dynamic TIEF is part of the manly Urban Underground Suite.

I can’t wait to emboss some Silver Foil with that to make a fun tool box card for Wayne!

But, I digress!  I embossed the Whisper White panel in the Cable Knit TIEF.  The next piece is a Cherry Cobbler die cut that I made using the Christmas Stockings Thinlits.  I adhered the sentiment to the card front with some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue – making sure I’d moved it far enough to the right to accommodate my art piece.  I snipped off the excess, and glued that to the left side of the card – to make it look like it’s as long as my card.  The die cut is actually sized for a 4 1/4″ card (so…portrait).

cable-knit-pines-noel-3-stamps-n-lingersThe art piece is made with the Christmas Pines stamp set and bundled Pretty Pines Thinlits.  First, I stamped the pine bough image in Emerald Envy and the second part of the pine bough image with Mint Macaron on Whisper White.  Then I cut out just a portion of the image using an oval die from the new and wonderful Stitched Shapes Framelits!  I cut a Cherry Cobbler scalloped oval with an Ovals Layering Framelits die and adhered them together with Liquid Glue.  Then I adhered it to the card front with a little more Liquid Glue.

My pine cone is made from some Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, that I colored with my Gold Wink of Stella.  I don’t have any of the Gold Glimmer Paper – and I actually like this look better anyway.  It’s a little softer and a little more organic, I think.  I colored a large enough piece for the pine cone I needed and then I let it dry while I folded some laundry.

I could have used my Heat Tool, but I figured…how terribly domestic and efficient of you, Mary!  I was quite pleased with myself.  It was the whites load, too – my least favorite. 😉

I cut my colored glimmer paper with a die from the Pretty Pines Thinlits, and cut a backer from Early Espresso card stock.  I also cut a little Cherry Cobbler berry sprig.

cable-knit-pines-noel-8-stamps-n-lingers
I adhered the berries, then the pine cone with Liquid Glue.  Using a couple of Glue Dots, I added two Mini Pinecones, and then a bow made with the Bakers Twines in the Baker’s Twine Trio Pack in the Holiday Catalog.

And then I pulled the bow off and took it apart, cuz that was Garden Green Baker’s Twine and it looked wrong.  I remade the bow – this time with Emerald Envy Solid Baker’s Twine – and stuck it back on.  Then I SNAILd the whole thing to a Cherry Cobbler mat and the card front was done!

cable-knit-pines-noel-1-stamps-n-lingers
On the inside of the card, I did another pine bough from Christmas Pines – this time stamping each image off once before stamping it on the card.  I used Emerald Envy and Mint Macaron just like on the front.  I added a sentiment from the Christmas Pines set in Cherry Cobbler.  Then I SNAILd it to a Cherry Cobbler mat.

And then I tried to put my portrait-oriented inside liner into my landscape-oriented Emerald Envy card base.

Guess how well that worked?? 😉

I think I need to make more landscape cards – I go on autopilot and the next thing I know I have to re-do my liners!

cable-knit-pines-noel-5-stamps-n-lingers
I also cut a little Cherry Cobbler bow with the Pretty Pines Thinlits and adhered it with some Liquid Glue.  I SNAILd it into my Emerald Envy card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and it was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another of the Emerald Envy and Mint Macaron pine boughs from Christmas Pines on the front…

cable-knit-pines-noel-6-stamps-n-lingers
…and I added the pine bough and a pine cone and bow to the back.  The pine cone is two-step – the back is Crumb Cake and the top stamp is Early Espresso.  The bow is in Cherry Cobbler and adhered with Liquid Glue.

Et Voila!  More of my favorite pine boughs and cones for Christmas – paired with the wonderful Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF!  Hope you like!

  1. This is so pretty Mary! Love the clean design. And your sparkly pinecone is beautiful! 🙂

  2. Mary, I can soooo relate! We have a 28yr old horse. He doesn’t get soaked food yet, but it’s coming. It’s getting harder and harder for him to chew. I love your reference to the fact that we are “staff”. That’s right on target! I also love that you have an Aussie. We do as well 😉 It’s too bad Georgia isn’t closer to Illinois, We could ride and craft together. 🙂 Thanks for your blog. I look forward to your posts. Oh, and btw, I *never* leave the water on in my barn and it has *never* flooded my tack room. *cough! cough!* Thank God for my non-horsey husband as well. It sounds like you had lots of help. I know you’re not the one who did it 😉 In my case it would be me! LOL

    • Okay – that’s crazy. If you tell me you’re an SU! demo, too, I’m going to think we were separated at birth! LOL. The part that’s funny about Wayne leaving the water on is 1) he’s completely a horseman – been riding (racehorses) since he was 6 (no, not even exxagertting that!) and 2) he’s always saying “Mare, don’t ever leave the water running in a trough and walk away”. He says that cuz I SOOO have done that! So I was tickled that it was him and not me. After the OMG! that it had happened in the first place! Staff we are and our lives totally revolve around our “charges”, don’t they? Wish we were closer, Kim! Thanks so much! 🙂

      • Yeppers! I’m a demo as well! 😉 Maybe we were seperated at birth! LOL I love your blog. I get a kick out of reading your daily posts. I’m not as good about posting in mine -yet. I’m a work in progress. That’s funny about Wayne. My hubby would never do that – he’s too anal! I, however, am the forgetful one! So cool that he’s been riding horses, especially racehorses, that long!

      • 🙂 We may have been!

  3. Mom

Oh. Oh. Oh no. Can think of nothing sufficiently commisatory to say. I AM so sorry.

God bless Finn. Don’t tell me they don’t “get it”. He is a love indeed.

Oh…and the card is most beauteous too.

  4. Just a  message to lift your spirits! I really love your card. I’ve got to make an exchange, I thought to get the bundle for the Gingerbread man, but after your card have changed mymind. I love the Noel on your card! Thanks for the share!

  5. Pretty, pretty! Wow, you were busy! And I thought having 5 grandkids in my charge was tough!

  6. This is such a great card! I love that cable knit embossing folder! Looks great with the pine cones! So perfect for Christmas! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

  7. Really pretty! That cable knit TIEF works so pretty as a background and I love all your elements – tiny pinecones, sparkly pinecones, triple bow – so pretty!

  8. I’m glad you can laugh about your wild night after the fact!!

LOVE the detail on your card. The pinecone is highlighted perfectly with the branches on the oval and the baker’s twine. Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.

  9. This card is so pretty. Beautiful design and fresh color palette… how nice! Thanks for sharing with us at Freshly Made Sketches.

I have to tell you that I was having a flashback reading your story.  Last year on Thanksgiving Saturday I put a turkey in our laundry room sink to thaw it out and accidentally forgot to turn off the water and thereby flooded our laundry room and kitchen (which are next to each other).  The water was close to an inch deep.  It also ran down thru a gap in the floor where the pipes run down to the basement so there was probably a good 1/4″ of water in one room in the basement as well.  At least that was bare floor so we just had to mop it up.  Unfortunately, it was ALL on me…The funniest part was how my husband kept saying…”at least you know the floor is good and clean…”  hahaha

    • OMG, Joni! That’s WAY worse than our tackroom mess! WAY! Funny that’s what your hubby said – I said the same thing about the tackroom floor! Ah, the things we laugh at now! Thanks, Joni. 🙂
