Stampin’ Up! Wisteria Wonder Perfect Christmas Pines!

Mornin’, y’all!  It’s Friday.  Before a 3-day weekend – the last big one of the summer!  If you’re headed somewhere this weekend, please be safe!  And have fun!  And watch out for Hermine.  Is Hermione copyrighted?  Does an “o” cost more?  I don’t know – I’m calling it Hermione anyway.  That’s the hurricane hitting Florida today.  She should be gone by the weekend proper, so you’ll be good…

So.  A little story.  About a 1000 million years ago, before the internet…okay, there was internet, but I didn’t have a blog.  Heck, I wasn’t even a demonstrator!  About a 1000 million years ago, I saw this card on the internet.  Don’t think Pinterest was around….

ornamental pine card
I thought it was the most beautiful card I’d ever seen (it’s still right up there at the top for me!) and I wanted to make it.  Fortunately, I’d already found Amy Koenders, so I ordered what I thought I needed to make my version of the card.  I made 10 of them, and gave them to my mother for Christmas.  I don’t have even one picture of it – did I mention this was pre-blog?!?

And about two months later, I joined Stampin’ Up!

I was pretty much devastated when SU! retired this Ornamental Pine stamp set.  I still have it lurking around – you know, JIC!

So when I saw the Christmas Pines bundle in the new 2016 Holiday Catalog, I was so happy!  I might have whoo-hoo’d.  Right out loud.  In my living room!  I’ve already made a few cards using it, but I did one more for today.  My previous efforts have been….rustic.  Woodsy.  This one harkens back to that first card effort with Stampin’ Up! products.  Take a look-see:

Wisteria Wonder Christmas Pines 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Yes, my first card way back when was made with Wisteria Wonder – I just think it’s so elegant with the white accents.

The layout for this card was inspired by the Freshly Made Sketches challenge #252:

FMS 252 Sketch
One thing I didn’t have a 1000 million years ago was the Pine Bough TIEF, which I used today.  I ran a panel of Wisteria Wonder card stock thru the Big Shot in this pretty new folder.  Then I stamped the snowy snowflake image from Christmas Pines in Whisper White Craft Ink all over the panel.  In retrospect, probably would have been better to do that before I embossed it, but it worked out! 🙂  I also lightly rolled some of the Whisper White Craft ink across the panel with a new Sponge Brayer.  It kind of pulled the embossed pine forward – giving it just a touch of emphasis!

Wisteria Wonder Christmas Pines 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I matted the panel on Whisper White.  The horizontal element of the sketch is a length of Silver 5/8″ Satin Ribbon, secured in the back with scotch tape.

For my sentiment, I stamped the Christmas Pines sentiment in Wisteria Wonder on a strip of Whisper White and snipped the end into a banner.  I left the left side of the banner long enough to sit under my pine cone embellishment and adhered it to the ribbon with Liquid Glue.

Wisteria Wonder Christmas Pines 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers
To make my pine cones, I cut two Whisper White detailed cones from the Pretty Pines Thinlits (which you can get in a bundle with Christmas Pines and save 10%!).  I used the outline die to cut two Wisteria Wonder “backs” – these are the large cones, by the way.  Then I adhered them together with a sparse amount of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

I also cut a couple of short pine boughs in Whisper White.

To build the decoration, I used a Glue Dot to adhere a few loops of Silver Metallic Thread down first.  Then I added the Whisper White pine boughs, and popped the pine cones over that with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  A Silver Foil bow – cut with a Pretty Pines Thinlits die – adhered with a little Liquid Glue – finished it off.

Wisteria Wonder Christmas Pines 8 - Stamps-N-Lingers
On the inside, I went a little….wild.  The way my layer stack worked out put Wisteria Wonder as the inner liner.  I dithered over that for a bit and then decided…who said the inner liner had to be Whisper White or Very Vanilla, anyway?

If you know me, you know I’m a total rule-breaker.

A complete rebel.

A follower-of-my-own-path.

Said no-one ever!

I think it might be an actual rule.  Someplace in a card-making manual somewhere it probably says “Card Makers SHALL use Whisper White or Very Vanilla on the inside of their cards”.

So I took a total risk.

Wisteria Wonder Christmas Pines 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I stamped more of the Whisper White Craft Ink snow from Christmas Pines across the top, SNAILd it to a Whisper White panel and then into my Wisteria Wonder card base.  Then I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

Wisteria Wonder Christmas Pines 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another few Christmas Pines snowy snowflakes – this time in Wisteria Wonder – across the front…

Wisteria Wonder Christmas Pines 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and then I embossed the envelope flap in the Pine Bough TIEF!

Wisteria Wonder Christmas Pines 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Voila!  A friend recently asked me what my favorite new holiday product is.  Well.  This  Christmas Pines Bundle and the Pine BoughTIEF is for danged sure right up there.  I actually think it’s at the top of my list!  It’s so versatile and, of course, it’s pine cones!!  Hope you like!

  1. Oh my goodness, how pretty! Love the Wisteria Wonder with the white for a holiday card too…and love the Wisteria layering inside the card. I thought that I heard a little woohoo from down south when our catalogs arrived. 😉

  2. Mom

Devastated is SO unbecoming. SO…you may be pleased to lnow that your card you have no picture of has been on my shelf where I can see it every day ever since you gave it to me. You are free to take its picture anytime. 😃

Hermione is what the hurricane has been for me from the start. I was pretty sure “they” just got it wrong. Still am ..but then it’s not my hurricane, ptL.

Your card today is pretty too…those pine cones get me every time!

  3. Stella

This set is my favorite from the new offerings. I am hoping they create a large wheat stalk next. Can you whisper in someone’s ear about doing that? Your card is beautiful.

  4. Oh, that would be good, Stella. I’ll just call Shellie up and let her know we want that. I’m sure it’ll come out right after we hang up! LOL! Thanks much! 🙂

  5. First, I agree about the hurricane name, I was yelling at the newscaster mispronouncing “Her” name!! Secondly, this is beautiful and the inside is rebelliously pretty and acceptable in my book! I love your color scheme and the TIEF and stamping look wonderful, too!

  6. Yep. I think they’re just wrong! They need remedial hurricane naming classes! Thanks much, Jari!! 😊

Do you have a favorite or ‘go to’ card using Sweet Cupcake stamp set?

I am looking for ideas using the stamp set SWEET CUPCAKE.

I would like to make a variety of note cards and thank you notes. My children are hosting a birthday party for my one year old granddaughter – there will be 40 attending. I would like my gift to be thank you cards for recipients to receive as thank you notes.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Christine

  8. Hey Christine – I haven’t bought that set (yet!) – but I’d probably head out to Pinterest and search Sweet Cupcake. I’ve seen a lot of cards using it! You could also use this layout that I’ve used here – put the cupcake smack in the middle – maybe have your frosting be the same color as your mat – brush it with a little Clear Wink of Stella to make it shiny frosting! I’d use the little sprinkle image in the stamp set and scatter that around the cupcake. Add some coordinated baker’s twine and a little bow. Use the Thanks So Much sentiment that’s in the set – stamp it right on the card front. Then on the inside, maybe just a couple of birthday candles in the corner – and then repeat them on the envelope! If you bought the Cupcake Cutouts Framelits in the bundle with the stamp set, you could stamp and cut the cupcake and pop it on the card front with dimensionals. Hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

The Wisteria Wonder with the white is so beautiful for Christmas! Your card is stunning. I especially love the background, embossed piece and the white on the pine cones. Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches!

  10. I love that early card you found – I’m fairly shocked with my vast Stampin’ Up collection that I don’t have the Ornamental Pine set. But thank you so much for showing me how the look can be replicated with the new catalog – AND stuff that I have on order right now! So I’ll immediately be pairing it with Wisteria Wonder. (I’ve wondered where the “o” went in the hurricane name too!) Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.

    • You’re more than welcome, Kim – I still love that set. Somewhere in the back of my head I keep hoping SU! will resurrect it! 🙂 Enjoy the new stamps, Kim – thanks! 🙂

Oh my gosh! I love this card, but I love your blog even more! You are hilarious! I was laughing out loud and enjoying every word of it. Thanks for being so detailed in your descriptions.
