Last weekend in Savannah is in the books, folks! This time next week I’ll be home and – hopefully! – unpacked and back in the home-groove! And it’ll be August, for goodness sake! Can you even believe that?? I mean, the thermometer definitely knows it’s August, but darned if this year isn’t just flying by! We just did some Christmas in July, but…it’s going to be Christmas-for-real really soon!
And speaking of which – next week is the deadline to be sure you’re on my list to get a free 2016 Holiday Catalog! If you’ve placed a $50 or higher order with me in the past year, and you let me see who you are (you’ll know cuz I sent you an e-mail and an ordering gift!), then you’re in – you’ll be getting a catalog in the first half of August. If you haven’t placed an order, this would be a good time – pick $5o or more of your favorite goodies and I’ll automatically put you on the mailing list! 🙂
Now – speaking of goodies. The Seaside Shore stamp set, which I played with for today’s card, is what I’d call a “sleeper”. When I first saw it, I wasn’t all that impressed. I really couldn’t see me making much with it. But, now that I’ve got it, and have made a few projects with it – I really really love it. It’s just so much fun – especially when combined with the By The Shore DSP and the Seaside TIEF. And for this one, I added a couple of sentiments from the Perfectly Wrapped set. Take a look-see:
This one hides a little secret – and I’ll share it in just a hot minute!
First though – I played along with two challenges. The first gave me the layout (and also the idea for the hidden secret!). This is a new challenge spot for me, so if you’re not signed up, head over and get your e-mail in so you can play along! 🙂 It’s the Paper Crafts Crew – challenge #203:
And some Cupcake Inspiration gave me the color combination!
Now – I didn’t have the exact colors – so I got close….Rich Razzleberry, Night of Navy, and Calypso Coral.
Wanna see the hidden secret? Okay – you twisted my arm. Take a look….
Yep – it’s a gift card holder!
Whew – I’m glad that’s out there. Keepin’ that secret was just killing me! 🙂
So – I started with a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock, which I cut to size for my card front. Then I cut a piece of By The Shore DSP to the same size, and cut it across on the diagonal for the bottom part of the card front. Then I stacked it on the Very Vanilla where it would eventually go, and ran the whole thing thru the Big Shot in my Seaside TIEF.
I matted both pieces on Night of Navy card stock and then adhered the By The Shore piece to the card front. Here’s the trick – just use SNAIL (or better yet – Fast Fuse, since it’s going to “see some action”!) on the two sides and across the bottom. Leave the diagonal edge open to create your pocket. That’s both easy and peasy! 🙂
I made all the Seaside Shore fish on Very Vanilla card stock – one type is stamped in Night of Navy and the other in Rich Razzleberry. I stamped two of the sea grasses images in Calypso Coral. I used my Calypso Coral Stampin’ Write Marker to color in parts of each fish and one of the grass images, and then fussy cut everything.
My tag is a strip of Very Vanilla and I cut the top with one of my Tags & Labels Framelits dies. You just slide the bottom of the tag thru the bottom of the die and then only run the top part thru the Big Shot – so it only cuts one end of the strip. Then I rounded the bottom corners with my Project Life Corner Rounder punch. I did the same with a slightly larger piece of Night of Navy for the mat.
The sentiment comes from the Perfectly Wrapped set – that’s three different images you see. “A Little” and “For You” are stamped in Rich Razzleberry and “Gift” is in Night of Navy. Then I SNAILd the two pieces together. I also SNAILd a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon on the back of the tag.
Then I started decorating my card! I used some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue on the bottom half of the back of the tag (don’t put any on the top or it’ll stick to the Very Vanilla and close your pocket!). The top fish (on the Very Vanilla portion) is just stuck on with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. Using some more Liquid Glue, I adhered the middle fish on the left side of the tag and then popped his two school-mates (get it? Fish? School?) on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
For the sea grasses, I used Liquid Glue to adhere the grasses together and then wend the fish in amongst it.
Then I popped the whole thing on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The two oysters – they have to be oysters, cuz I put Pearls on them! – I stamped in Versamark on Night of Navy, sprinkled with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, heated them up and fussy cut. Then I used a Glue Dot on the back of each one and wound some strands of Silver Metallic Thread around and around, and stuck them on the bottom of the grasses and on the top of the tag.
I finished up with a Night of Navy Solid Baker’s Twine bow. I left the tails long on and used a few strategically placed dabs of Liquid Glue to arrange it artfully – to look like rope or line by the ocean. Finally, I added a large Pearl Basic Jewel to each embossed oyster, some silver sequins that I pulled from a piece of Silver Sequin Trim and some small Pearl Basic Jewels on each of those. And – to make them shiny! – I brushed the fish and the sea grass with my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.
On the inside, I stuck just the bottom inch of a piece of Very Vanilla card stock in my Seaside TIEF and embossed it. Then I got a little creative. I laid a sticky note across the panel, even with the top of the embossing I’d just done. Then I stamped my fish in Night of Navy, colored him with my Calypso Coral Stampin’ Write Marker and brushed him with the Clear Wink. Then I picked up the sticky note and wrapped three lengths of Night of Navy Thick Baker’s Twine across the panel.
I stamped the second Perfectly Wrapped sentiment in Rich Razzleberry, SNAILd the panel to a Night of Navy mat and then into my Calypso Coral card base. Then I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!
For my Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, I did a little masking. I stamped one By The Shore sea grass image on a sticky note and fussy cut it. I stamped the image in Calypso Coral onto the envelope and covered it with my mask. Then I stamped my Night of Navy fish over the top, colored it in and brushed it with the Wink of Stella…
…and I added some By The Shore DSP to the envelope flap.
Et Voila! What a cool little gift card holder, huh? And you could make this kind of card with any theme you wanted – not just with these fun little fishes! And – I know every time I’ve used this set, I’ve made the fish swimming thru the sea grass – can’t help it very much! I watched my brother’s tropical saltwater fish winding their way thru the “grasses” in their aquarium for too many years. And it’s too much fun not to put them in there! Hope you like!
