Stampin’ Up! Awesomely Artistic Copper Butterfly

Good Morning – it’s Friday and the weekend is upon us again! Thanks for stopping by our Blog Hop yesterday – I hope you enjoyed seeing everyone’s projects! 🙂

My card for today uses a stamp set that – thankfully! – will also be in the upcoming Annual Catalog!  Awesomely Artistic really is….awesome!…and I’m glad we’ll get to use it for another year.  I paired it with the Butterflies Thinlits (also coming back!) and a new product that we got to see at OnStage.  Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Are you kiddin’ me??  Well…no.  I’m not.  So, here’s what I came up with.  Take a look-see:

Now, the sketch I played along with for this card is The Paper Players #291:

PP291 sketch

I suppose there could be some debate over how Clean and Simple my card is, but…I kind of like the simplicity of the quiet colors of the distressed Pool Party and the Crumb Cake.  So…I say it is! 😉

I started by cutting my butterfly from a piece of Very Vanilla card stock, using the largest die in the Butterflies Thinlits set.  Then I smooshed it all around in my Versamark Ink Pad and sprinkled it with the new (you’ll be able to get it on 1 June!) Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  As I heated it up, the shiny Copper color came to life.  It was so cool!

It was a little too shiny for the look I was aiming for on this card.  So…I crumpled it up a bit and then sponged Pool Party Ink all over it.  I was trying to re-create the look of a weathered copper yard ornament.  You know – how it turns a green color?  I also swiped a little Crumb Cake over it, just to dull it up a little more.  Then I set it aside to get good and dry.

The card front itself is a piece of Pool Party card stock.  I first stamped the “linen” image stamp from Awesomely Artistic, in Pool Party ink, all over the panel.  I was relatively random with my stamping, but started by going around the edges and then moving to the center.  Over that, I stamped the large frond image – again in Pool Party ink.  There’s not a place that you’d point to and say “oh – there’s a frond”.  It’s just a suggestion of an organic image in the background!

Finally, I stamped the splotches image in Crumb Cake all around the outer edge of the panel.  I tore the two corners a little bit and then sponged all around with more of the Crumb Cake.  Using lots of little dots of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, I adhered my weathered copper butterfly to the card front.  And, I thought it would be cool to staple the panel to its Crumb Cake mat… so that’s what I did – using the Handheld Stapler.

The sentiment is the label image from Awesomely Artistic, heat embossed in Copper, sponged all over with Pool Party and fussy cut.  I stamped the sentiment itself in Soft Suede.  I popped it over a quick swirl of Linen Thread (secured with a couple of Glue Dots!) with some Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card front was done.

Awesomely Artistic Copper Butterfly 2 - Stamps-N-LingersThe inside is another panel of Pool Party, stamped with Pool Party linen and frond images, Crumb Cake splotches and a little tearing and rending!  I finished it off by sponging again with Crumb Cake, and stapling it to a Crumb Cake mat.

I SNAILd it into my Pool Party card base, popped the front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

I used a Crumb Cake Medium Envelope and gave the front some more Awesomely Artistic fronds in Pool Party and some splotches in Crumb Cake…

…and did a stamped “liner” – getting ready to not have the Envelope Liner Framelits at my disposal.

Ha ha ha ha ha!!  Like I’ll ever give those up!  They’ll have to pry them from my cold, dead fingers!  So – just expect me to keep using them – and you should be making sure you have them, too, before they’re gone!! 🙂

…anyway – I stamped fronds and splotches inside the flap – and one little Pool Party frond at the bottom.  Oh, look!  You can really see how shiny the Copper Emboss Powder is on this picture!

Et Volia!  Clean and Simple?  Well….maybe.  Pretty?  I think so and I hope you think so, too!  I just love this Copper powder and can’t wait to see what different kinds of things we’ll all be able to do with it!

Don’t lose track of the days and miss out on my two ordering specials going on thru 1 May.  FREE shipping on any order of $50 (before shipping and taxes) and you’ll get DOUBLE the peppermints on the same order!  Plus your normal ordering gift!

Mary

P.S.  Just a note about the Big Shot.  SU! is releasing a brand spankin’ new platform for the Big Shot.  We got to try it out at OnStage and it works great – especially with the really intricate dies – like the Butterflies!…and the new dies that are coming on in the new catalog.  So here’s the thing.  If you’ve already got a Big Shot – you’ll be able to order the new platform on 1 June.  If you do not already have a Big Shot – and are thinking of getting one (which you should most definitely do!) – I’d urge you to wait just a couple more weeks.  Folks who order the Big Shot after 1 June will get the NEW platform shipped with their machine!  That’s worthy of a big Whoo-hoo!  Let’s just take a great tool and make it even better, shall we?? 🙂
